Larry has gone.

Think if I was Larry I would take time out and re-evaluate my strategy,it's obviously not working for him. Cue Larry,s reappearance as a Sky sports pundit.

I think Sunderland did for him, seemed to completely floor him and his grumpy thousand yard stare persona in Sunderland Till I Die isn't the same lad who was here the first time.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him back in management soon enough, personally think he's a bit of a dinosaur in management terms now though.

Excellent win for the Knobbers last night, should keep McAvoy in the job for a bit longer šŸ‘
There were quite a few on here that rated him above Critch. šŸ˜‰

I keep thinking about this and I genuinely wonder whether he ever had it in the first place. Whenever I've listened to him in interview he sounds thick and I don't just mean his dull persona and Yorky accent, he just seems to repeat the typical football cliches and never really express any particular insight into his team or performances, that give you the impression that he actually has half a clue what he is doing.... The contrast to Critchley (for example) is night and day.

So has he just been lucky? Maybe had some decent Assistant Managers to work with, who have made up for his lack of ability, maybe managed to get lucky with the quality of players at his disposal?

I suspect the only route may now be unemployment certainly in terms of football club management but there are some pretty stupid Club chairmen so you never know. I never wanted him to come back to us as I posted at the time.

I always had a suspicion that TP was behind his success here, but then he got three more teams promoted, suggesting it's down to the assistant managers is just the 'Calderwood Gambit' from last season.

I know... I know... But he has had some decent assistants at the clubs he's been successful at....

The other possibility is that Football has maybe just passed him by and he's perhaps not quite bright enough to get on board with the modern game... He also looks like a bit of a boozer, so maybe he's just lost his way

I think you're right about football moving on, he's only been a coach for 15 years but already looks like a dinosaur compared to Critchley.

Possibly but I think thatā€™s a tad harsh given he got promoted 4 times.
As for the here and now heā€™s completely finished as a manager and his only hope is him pointing to his earlier jobs on his CV hoping a club will take a punt on him.

Yep.... It's just hard to explain how someone can go from almost a banker for gaining promotion from L1 to "You're so shit it's unbelievable"

I never wanted Larry back but I don't dismiss what he did for us first time round.
IMO he's just got a bit "lazy" and gives the impression he's lost his appetite for the game.
It was a reasonable appointment at the time considering we had to get someone in quick after Mcphillips helpfully took most of the summer to decide he didn't want to be a manager any more, could have told us at the end of the season Terry but thanks.

Larry in his prime was a good Manager and I won't forget his contribution first time around.

Lets not forget he masterminded a superb Leeds performance against ManUre in the Cup.

Larrys problem is that he hasn't moved with the times, which is clearly shown up by Critch's methodology.

A million guesses at a ex BFC player and I still wouldn't have got it šŸ™„

Do we think we are in the initial stages of seeing the death throes of the old ā€œFormer Player Turned Manager With Some Past Successā€ type manager appointments now?

I thought Simon Grayson was great as a footballer for us and then got a job he didnā€™t really want but took and luckily made some great appointments to help him and brought some pride back to a club following promotion via the Play-Offs back to the Championship.

Feted for that he obviously thought he could do better and made a fist of it at boyhood club Leeds. His reputation wasnā€™t that bad so picked up a few more jobs before coming back to us - at the time I thought it was a crafty bit of business by Sadler to bring him back to steady the ship, unfortunately Graysonā€™s ship had sailed by then.

The appointment of Critchley took us away from that ex-player now manager route and its paid off handsomely and its a model other clubs have adopted and probably looking at us with interest in following suit.

Iā€™m sure Pilley has someone lined up and will have given Grayson a couple of games to sort things out orā€¦..

Lets see which way they go, it will be interesting, Iā€™m sure the training ground facilities will attract a more technically minded manager and Pill does talk a good talk.

Oxford had about 12 missing last night and still beat them quite easily. My father in law told me this was on the cards at the weekend.
