Last night loss a blessing in disguise?

You learn more from a poor performance and poor result, than a poor performance and a good result.
Best get it out the way now than in 5 games time.
If we won last night, I think a few of us would of been dreaming of automatic, to me a loss isn't the worse thing in the world and the team can come back stronger.

Not really - someone said the same when Lincoln came back from 2-0 behind and that's gone well!

I don’t know about anyone else but I was getting nervous about when the non-losing streak would end, inevitably it would no question. But what if it had been in a Play-Off Final, devastating!

As things turned out, that defeat hasn’t really hurt us too much and, as someone else has pointed out, our position solidified a little even after losing.

Now that run is broken, maybe the players might relax as it will have been on their minds and might show a determination to make amends and, who knows, perhaps go on a mini undefeated run till seasons end.

Whilst I agree that a win with a poor performance as per our win against Sunderland can be misleading to some and mask team deficiencies and lead to misguided complacency it has been clear that after some very good performances we seem to have lost our mojo from the last 20 minutes against Lincoln onwards and it looks like we may struggle to get it back.

Understand where you're coming from, but "no" in my opinion.
Against a side fighting against relegation for a reason, we were second best all night. No complaints.
We were overrun at times on Saturday, but got the rub of the green against a promotion-chasing team.
We're not the only club which has injuries, tired players and a hectic run-in. I'm sure our squad's bigger than Rochdale's and they looked fresh and up for the challenge
Great run recently, better, I would suggest, than performances have warranted. Last night wasn't a surprise and will hardly refresh or inspire the players. Can see us tailing off now.
Whatever happens, it's been a better season than appeared likely in October.

I'm not sure that losing is ever a blessing in disguise. 2 wins from the remaining games should be enough given 2 teams have
to overtake us . We should be able to achieve this notwithstanding the lack of options in midfield and upfront.

It has always been a thought Blackpool perform better against better teams, if we play someone near the top, we seem more likely to get a good performance and result.
When we play a mid table or relegation threatened team we often struggle, not certain of the stats. But can remember it happening in the 80's, 90s and 2000s.

What I am saying, if we win we just carry on, but a loss identifies the frailties' of the team can work, and we can work on them, be it changing personnel, tactics and making certain the performances are up to scratch.

This is typical Blackpool of old.
If we won last night and this Saturday and would have assured Play offs.
Four games with little to play for except 3rd to 6th place.

We are still in suspense and wouldn’t be surprised if it will come down to last game.

Every club's fans will say the same sort of thing. Chelsea fans last night after their 0-0 at home to Brighton. Super League my arse. 😂

I was very disappointed with last night's performance and result. But strangely I also feel like I should be glad the defeat is out of the way and that it wasn't to any of our rivals. It was a brilliant unbeaten run, but I was hoping in a way that we got the odd poor performance and poor result out of the way before the play offs. That is of course assuming that we recover immediately and make the play offs comfortably. I certainly hope that it gives us a kick up the arse and makes us get the ball forward quicker

That was probably the worse football match I’ve ever watched.

No excuses, no the players are tired bollox, do your jobs and pass the ** ball forward and get some crosses in.

It’s basic football 🙄

Out of all the games this season i've not seen a poorer performance than that last night and there's been a few along the way.there was some really poor individual performances from some of our players.we are way better than that rubbish served up last night.

What worried me more than anything last night, was the lack of reaction from our management.
It was clear to all supporters at half time, we were struggling (apart from the passing across our back four, relentlessly).
We looked so tired & ineffective, so WHY wasnt it changed by different tactics & subs??
It took till we went behind to alter things. Far too late!
WHY?

Oh & Critchley thought we played well???

If we had someone who was one the bench to bring in or rest someone you might have a point but on Saturday it's going to be near enough the same starting 11.

I can't ever remember a time when we've had that little to choose from and that's what you need after a poor performance a freshen up but we haven't anybody.
Even Rochdale had 4 attack minded players on the bench last night!

Agree mainly. As long as we're in the Play-Offs it's immaterial where we are.
We still have to beat 2 teams whatever, and I'm sure we can do it.

We don't just stop being a good side on the back of one defeat. It goes back to the argument when does good form change into just being good. Over the course of this season we've been the fifth best side so far, and that hasn't changed based on last night.
I think we just need to say we put in a poor performance, we got away with it in terms of other results, and put it out of our minds and move on.

I remember watching us lose 3-1 at Peterborough away in 2012, ten games from the end. It was defensively the worst performance i've ever seen from us. Disorganised isn't a strong enough word, and the thought of us making the play offs at that point was laughable with a showing that bad. We then proceeded to win five and draw four of the remaining ten and comfortably make the top six. The point being that a poor performance and result even late in the season can just be an isolated one, and you do get some very odd results at this stage.
And put it this way, i'd rather be in our position than in Oxford's or Portsmouth's, 100%.

It's one game, we lost, we played shit, Critch wasn't downbeat, supporters are disappointed. But it isn't the end of the world. It was going to happen and it was against a team fighting for league 1 survival.

We looked tired, Critch was absolutely right to say what he did, he needs to keep the players buzzing, why some of you think he should say anything else is because you are supporters and not the manager.

It's imperative we make the play offs now we are where we are, but we need to be in the right frame of mind to then get into the final and then try and win it. It's not a god given right, all the other teams want the same so if it doesn't happen there is no point sharpening the knives to cut to pieces the manager and the players. It is great that we are where we are after such a terrible start to the season.

Whatever happens this season we have improved but we are missing key players in key areas, not many but enough to make a positive difference to the team. That can be put right in the summer. We do though have some really good players and we will miss the loan players unless we can snaffle one or two of them.

Let's get to the play offs and hope we get a rest and some of the squad are back in contention from their injuries.

And we’re missing a true experienced leader on the pitch, but you’re right irrespective of what happens much has improved with a decent squad of players building for the future.

You're right, but I think that player will be Stewart as he will be an ever present once he is back. We certainly need some creativity in midfield. We need a Charlie Adam type player, someone who opens up defences and scores goals, we also need to have the support up front for Yates, Madine is fine if he is staying but Simms is not likely to be here next season.

Nope - that is a pretty awful defeat, bad way to surrender such a good run and the performance was litereally a 15 mins salvage job against a team that has los 20 matches !

Last night the team struggled against a team that was fighting for its league one survival. The current team looks tired and there are few attacking options on the bench. But for me, it highlighted a couple of problems that we need to improve. Firstly there is a lack of football nouse upfront in playing both Simms and Embelton in the team. For me, Embelton is not a right-winger/midfielder and lacks the pace for going around the outside of the fullback. Secondly, the manager needs to be bolder with changing the team with subs and formation when it isn't working, he waited too long against Rochdale, although it is difficult with the lack of options on the bench.

Hopefully, with the return of Stewart, Anderson, and hopefully Madine we will have a big increase in the nouse, quality, and experience that will be needed to gain promotion through the playoffs. I would also consider resting Yates for the Sunderland game as I could see him being
subjected to the same treatment as the Viking, and we cannot afford him to be out injured.
