Lavery to Millwall

Soccerbase

From what I can see he played

10 Competitive League Games including the Blackburn Game.... And he scored 4 goals and no assists...

2 League Cup games ..... And he scored 2 goals and 1 assist...

Over the season he scored 10 Goals in Total for us?

His record against weaker opposition is highlighted by his goals to games tally in the Cup I'd say, which kind of proves the point really.

Then... He tips up for preseason looking like Big Daddy...

I'd question whether he actually really has the genuine desire to be a pro on that basis alone.

It looks like he is going. Think this one will come back and bite us on the arse. 10 goals last season on limited appearances, 23 years old, full international, longish contract. How much would webe quoted if we were looking to buy from another Championship club ? Needs to be a good seven figure deal to make sense.

If it goes through I'd expect Morgan to be incoming.
It seems easy to get rid of players but difficult to get them in on a permanent transfer - hope there is some good news coming soon, or the squad will be looking fairly weakened

Can go for me as we need better. To many players just aren’t up to this standard of football bar the odd game. Lavery, CJ, Garbutt, Dougall, Virtue to name a few.

He scored goals when played. 10 in 20 starts, 19 subs, 1:4.

Right-

madine 9 in 27 starts, 7 subs Includes at least 3 pens I can recall

Yates 8 in 23/16 (1 pen in there?)

Lavery as stated.

Rewards Madine gets new contract (why?????) and Club leading scorer is happily let go by a group of fans.

Fitness can be worked on as can other things.

The fee would have to well into 7 figures to justify it and even then what's the cost of a replacement?

So those stats (the 8 goals in 15 games before his injury) wasn’t right?

You raise a reasonable question about Madine and Yates…I’d say he offers a different option, he’s very good at what he does, has experience at this level, contributes to the team performance and seems to be a good character.

Yates, is a huge character of course, but also he’s a far more gifted football player than Lavery. Again though, there are big question marks over whether he too can push on at this level (I certainly think he brings way more to the party than Lavery).

So we’re left with fatty Lavery, who’s clearly spent his entire close season troffing down mammies home made apple crumble and tipped up a couple of ton overweight…. He gets his chance at Reading and his key attribute (his pace) has deserted him.

In fact let’s face it… whatever it was that had generated his extremely brief initial flurry of half decent performances, had certainly deserted him for the overwhelming majority of last season… never mind this…. (At least with Jerry we have his historical form and not just a flash in the pan to hold on to).

If someone is willing to pay to take him off our hands and develop him into a player then good luck… I think we can do better personally 👍

Excellent 80's referencing.

8 from 15 was the total for all games . 100% FACT

That's the start of your post I'll ignore the middle- not worthy of comment.

Do better. Go on then, who, firstly inside the Club and then in transfers? At the moment we couldn't hook a duck on the perm side.

What games?

You said 8 goals in 15 games before his injury.

He only scored 8 league goals over the entire season.

Are you counting friendly games ?

Anyway it matters not….

As I’ve said, I’m sure he’ll do OK if he drops a level (maybe 2).

Look at the stats. He got injured in the Blacburn game in which he scored. That was his 15th competitive game of the season inc 2 for NI. If you want to be picky then it was 7 goals in 13 games. By my reckoning that makes him anything but 'a superstar (or whatever you said) when injured'.

He's more than worth prevailing with.

Plenty more to ship out before him, plenty.

Ah OK... So you're counting Mickey Mouse Cup & Mickey Mouse Internationals 👍

He'd basically hit a short (3 game) vein of form in the Championship, before getting injured. Yep.. I was excited too, but he's come back a pudding and I'm afraid that a few games isn't enough for me to grasp onto.

We need Strikers in and so I suppose we need to get some out and.... In my opinion... He's the worst one we have.

I give the fuck up.

👍

Sorry that you're getting frustrated, but I just feel like you are clutching at straws.

A big part of my point was that he would benefit from a consistent run at a lower level.... Then you highlight that he's been scoring goals in Mickey Mouse games... Well yep... That's what I'm saying... He'll do well at that kind of level.👍

I presume we're looking to offload in that position and bring in a fee to put towards an alternative.... Who else fits the profile?

I just don’t get it, as has been pointed out, 10 goals last season and he didn’t play every game and he does chase and press which is what we’re supposed to be doing. I guess MA doesn’t fancy him, or doesn’t see him in his meth of playing. Nevertheless, why sell, or loan him to another championship club.
Without taking pens, and missing games through injury and rotation, 10 goals is a decent return in his first season in English football. I think we'd be mad to let him go permanently unless it's an offer we can't refuse.

We certainly shouldn't be thinking about letting him go until we have already signed a replacement, given our recent transfer successes.

If he leaves and we bring another kid in on loan from the PL it makes me wonder what direction the club is taking.

I'd be keeping him, and looking to get the best out of the players we have, not deciding on a system that at present isn't working, due to the fact we seem to have very few players capable of actually fitting it.

He didn't score against Switzerland though did he (funnily enough) 🤔

I was just confused by the whole 15 Games thing....

So going back to the question...

Which striker should we sell to fund the one we seem to be looking for, instead of Chubby Shayne?

I’m not one for an overreacting post immediately after the game but just got back to my car. Wow oh wow if anyone offers us anything for Lavery, snap their hands off now and I’ll drive him there in the morning.

He was utterly awful tonight, I’m lost for words watching his decline over the last ten months. Tonight was his last game in tangerine, it has to be his career with us is over. Totally shot as a player for us. I don’t really know what’s happened but he needs to go. He’s a waste of a wage and a squad place. I hate saying this stuff about our players but he needs moving out.

There’s Several others that need to leave given what I’ve seen from end of last season, preseason and the first three games of this season. I think we need a bigger squad overhaul than we first realised.

Shane works his socks off, I’d guess the stats would show this tonight, the 4-3-3 formation is Bollocks, at times he was on his own up top, if you play 4-3-3 then play it, it looked like 4-5-1 for most of the game,
Left up top on his own running and pressing on his own!!!!!, at no time during the game did we have a front 3 pressing or attacking, so as I said Shane was pressing on his own!!!

totally agree both cj and Corbeanu hugging the touchline when you play 3 up front its you need one of the wide players coming in to support lavery and an attacking midfielder coming closer too him
