League 1 2024-25

My Birmingham mates seem to think they'll go straight back up .So I agreed and said yes it's a shit league with shit teams.šŸ¤£. Then I said don't expect a weekend away during the Lights as it will probably be a Tuesday night in February.

I remember the 2009/10 season when we were firm favourites for relegation.
Meanwhile Darren Ferguson had successive promotions with Peterborough and were tipped as one of the favourites to go up.
We went up and they went down!

People banging on about the league being "much" tougher next season is just nonsense.
Portsmouth, Derby and say Bolton are stronger than Rotherham, Huddersfield and Birmingham (who may struggle to manage their high wage bill).
Yes Stockport and Wrexham are better than what's gone down and Wigan/Reading won't have a point deduction so it'll be competitive but not impossible.

My predictions for next season:
- Toxic atmosphere at Bloomfield leads to home form suffering.
- Attendances dramatically down and the Bloomfield atmosphere consigned to history.
- Critchley continues to play this bizarre formation with players out of position.
- Poor form leads to the sacking around November time.
- Pool scrape enough points to just avoid relegation.
Youā€™re such a happy soul, bet youā€™re fun to live with!
Go and cheer yourself up by supporting Man city

The problem with Birmingham (and Huddersfield) is they've been shit in the Championship for years.
They have no momentum and I think will struggle to get to grips with this league.

Confirmed teams so far

Blackpool
Bristol Rovers
Burton Albion
Cambridge United
Charlton Athletic
Exeter City
Leyton Orient
Lincoln City
Mansfield Town
Northampton Town
Reading
Rotherham United
Shrewsbury Town
Stevenage Borough
Stockport County
Wigan Athletic
Wrexham
Wycombe Wanderers

With Huddersfield basically down also.

Not the most appetising. However realistically, we should not be threaten by anyone. There are no ā€œbigā€ teams as such - Derby and Portsmouth were everyoneā€™s favourites this year. If Bolton donā€™t go up via the play offs then they will be clear favourites.

I can see Charlton doing well under Nathan Jones, Wigan coming back to being stronger and was impressed with Reading today.

We really should be top 6 MINIMUM next season though.

Still feels crap however.
Sorry donā€™t agree, the league next season will be way harder, all the teams coming up play good attacking football along with Crewe in the playoffs, Mansfield will be no mugs with Clough in charge
Teams coming down will all be up there so investment is needed just to give us a chance, and we cannot play the turgid dull football of last season or he will be gone after 10 games, we have to start positively.

I watched Crewe last night. Absolute shite. They've just lost 3 games at home on the bounce 3 0 and lost 2 0 last night. Donny looked confident after the run they've been on, but no great shakes.

We are better than them

Crewe were shockingly poor last night, playoff nerves possibly, can see Doncaster coming up via the playoffs they are on fire.

More teams competing less points needed for automatic and play offs
That not necessarily how it works. We could end up with a massive points gap again between top and bottom half like we have in some recent seasons. Granted there may well be quite a few top teams who all take points off each other, but theyā€™ll all likely take a lot more points than average off the bottom half sides hence creating the gap

End of the day no matter who comes up and who goes down you'll still have that middle swamp with the likes of Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury, Burton, Northampton, Cambridge, Exeter, Wycombe etc .. and those are the sides you need to target for a home win and minimum away draw.
