League One signings

Looks like Cardiff have given up before they've begun. Interesting looking at the comings and goings.

Been through the list and it’s apparent there are a lot of players without a club - and the new season commences in 4 weeks!!

Interesting that @tayrod and do we respect those players for holding out for a deal or actually are they in it for themselves and maybe lack that commitment we need?

I can't think of a L1 signing that's made me go wow the signings we've missed out on have chosen the championship which is fair enough. I'm encouraged there's many choices out there even if most a journeymen out for a pay packet and again who can blame them? Midfield is mostly sorted but we really need a battering ram of a striker, a shithouser who is all elbows and snide kicks and stamps. Pity the cosy about £20+ millions really. We have a new Gansher so we need a new Madine.

Just out of interest, how many players each club has signed

I was looking at Orients signing yesterday and one of there big signings is Demetri Mitchell, who I really dont see as a top end of league1 player. They've lost 6 out of their starting 11, some of thoes were loans, 7 if Brown leaves. I dont see them being up there this season, although with Wellens who knows.

Most of those six that they've lost will be loans, and it'll be down to how well Richie does again in the loan market. He seems a very smart operator to me, and has all the London clubs to draw on.

They’ve got great links with Spurs. Orient will be top half again, no danger of that
Wellens has a significantly lower budget than us but he has a great eye for a player. We are bringing in known quantities on big wages, we lack that keen eye, perhaps. Ability to spot talent on the rise. Value for money. We should be pretty strong though, especially if we can wangle some cute loan signings! 🤞🏽

Yeah. Wasn’t a knock on our business. It looks like an all or nothing type season for us.

We’ve gone for experience and proven players at this level (or above in the case of Honeyman and Ihiekwe.) I’m sure we’ll still bring in 4-5 youngsters on loan

Is that in pounds or euros?

I hope those who have brought in the most will be at the back of the queue for loans as it looks like they wouldn't be able to make any guarantees of first team football?

I'm staggered reading the list and monies spent on players. I'm obviously way out of touch. This is league 1, how does it continue when clubs can't generate enough income to sustain costs?
Genuine question btw

The "mkt value" reference refers to the nominal value of the player, not necessarily the transfer fee that was paid.

I.e. for us, we've only signed Ennis for a fee but they're showing player values incoming of €2.63m.

The Brown signing takes our market value up to €3.13m and average age down to 25.2

Funny thing with that one Cardiff signing is it's a player who was already theirs but they loaned out last season!

On 23 January 2024, Tsunoda signed for Championship club Cardiff City. Upon his arrival at the club, he immediately joined Belgian Pro League club KV Kortrijk on loan for the remainder of the season. On 16 March, Tsunoda suffered a hamstring injury in match against Anderlecht and missed the remainder of the season

There are some rich owners about who want to get out of the league. The rest stay where they are unless they get lucky with a decent squad and all the stars align for them.

Birmingham bought their way up last season.

Just what Birmingham have done. It paid off for them!
Not sure Alfie May is the reason they went up, but sure.

Look he’s clearly a decent league 1 player, I’m not sure we’re in a position where we could take that risk. If we’re spending over a £1m on a player, I’d hope it would be someone with development potential etc. etc.

Also noticed that Bolton have just lots their best player to Wrexham - no ambition etc. etc.

The thing with May, particularly at our level, he guarantees goals!

Thomason wasn’t even their best midfielder, let alone their best player.

Bolton are my tip to win the league this season. Think they’ll be strong and the ones to beat.

He does, though 16 league goals for a team that dominated the league like Brum did isn't that amazing?
16 goals maybe but his playing partner Stansfield bagged another 19.

35 goals between them which is just terrific league winners or not.

I think May will score a good few goals this coming season I think he’ll prove to be a very shrewd purchase.

"Queens Park Rangers have received a bid from Luton Town for English striker Charlie Kelman. The 23-year-old was League One's highest scorer while on loan with Leyton Orient last season.

"The Hoops may also see another of their young English attackers depart with a number of League One teams interested in a loan move for 22-year-old forward Alfie Lloyd.

I did think Luton have been keeping their powder dry and wondered when they might start to stick their heads above the parapet with some landmark signings.

A midfield of Saville and Odoffin looks as solid as it gets. Wells and Naismith have got bags of experience. Keeley is obviously a big talent.

If they add Kelman then you would think they will be in and around the promotion hunt for sure.
When I looked at the Millwall forum they seemed to think Saville was a bigger loss than Honeyman. We can't compete with parachute payments unfortunately.

Both championship quality and can see why they would be disappointed losing Saville. Looks like Millwall have cleared as many ageing players as they can to recruit younger players.

Yes their forum was saying that the club strategy now is to develop younger players to generate income, sounded familiar!
