Lincoln City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 10.04.21

I'm feeling confident today, have just made a bet on a Blackpool win, odds have come in a bit since they were 2-1 a few days ago, which is a shame, should have wagered before.

Facts to consider;
Blackpool have won last 5 away
Blackpool unbeaten in 14
Lincoln not won in 5
Lincoln players have not had a game for about two weeks
Lincoln squad recovering from Covid outbreak

I can't see us losing this, in fact I think we will win comfortably.
As we know football is a cruel mistress, I hope I'm not wrong here, my first bet for a while. I have probably cursed things for us.
As I was saying, we deserved the full loaf there

We were excellent today, I think it shows how far we have come that I’m absolutely gutted we didn’t win that, Lincoln offered fuck all other than the 2 goals, we should of been out of sight before they scored. The Play offs it is then.

Very frustrating that. Got a bit complacent at 2 up, missed a chance or two and the ref gave us nowt all afternoon.
Couple of results went our way... Oh and still actually unbeaten although that almost felt like a defeat.
Accy will reap our vengeance on Tuesday hopefully

We did enough to win that one Bar getting what probably would have been the killer 3rd. Still a good point against a side where COVID didn’t seem to play any part (surprise surprise) still feels like a loss though😢 but on a positive the unbeaten run continues.

Have to say two points dopped. we sat back too much and let them come into it, and we should have been so far into the distance they couldn't have come back. the gods werent smiling on us today, and another absolutely sh17 referee, some bizarre decisons and constantly in the way of play.

roll on tuesday

Would have taken a point before the game but feels like a defeat now.

All those chances that went begging.

Frustrating afternoon. 🤬

Lincoln had 2 shots on target and 2 goals, a missed handball in the box and red card, should have been an easy 3 points.

Would've taken a point before but seeing how well we've played is gutting.

Not the end of the world since Pompey lost and we're not up to 4th (think if we avoid Sunderland in the first round of the Playoffs we'll have a proper chance).

Hopefully the team will use this as motivation, because they'll all feel they dropped two points as well.

Not necessarily. We take points off Sunderland and...

Missed our chances and paid the price, still 1 point and still remain unbeaten would of taken that before the game,so move onto next game ,never gonna catch top two anyway,so keep momentum for the playoffs .

We should focus on the performance, it was outstanding. We could have had a few more, bit unlucky with blocks and a couple of poor finishes, Embleton in particular.

I think Maxwell will be disappointed with the first, it was going like a rocket and probably out for a throw. No need to do what he did, and as captain, needs to give us that calmness. Thought he also went down easy at the near post for the second. On the other hand, great point blank save earlier in 2nd half.

We have lost 2 points there, but how good do we look, and I still thought we looked much better than them at the end.

Got us with 2 similar goals ,But I said Appleton would change it. Scully who did us at Bloomfield rd did us again , still an away point I would have taken that before the game.

Decent result, great first half performance but I’m gutted after losing that 2-0 lead. The ref had a nightmare but we should have been out of sight and defended better for the goals. We have lost too many points from winning positions this season.

We could easily have been 4-0 up. Great performance but as people have said, we sat back too deep and allowed them to play further forward. Two points dropped. Still, we’re 4th and playing really well.

Not necessarily. We take points off Sunderland and...
We cement our position in the playoffs.
Auto is out of reach now.
The sooner its mathematically impossible to fall out the play off spots the sooner some of the team can have a well earned rest.
Felt like a defeat, should have been 4 up by the time Lincoln had the chance for their 1st.
The Sunderland matches dont have as much resting on them now🤷‍♂️

Heat of the moment gone.

In the grand scheme of things this is fine, automatics are over but we can focus on just securing playoffs now. Still frustrating but we move on, come on you pool.

A point isn't a disaster but having played so well, created so much and then toss away a 2 goal lead, it is hard to take. The ref was poor from minute 2 and pretty much gave us nothing, leading to their first and not giving the most blatant handballs at the death. I'm disappointed, a little bit angry but that shouldn't be the case as for large parts of that game we were brilliant.

What makes that more frustrating is how much we looked the better side, even after their 2 goals I'd say we were better.

Sickening stuff, but we can't win every game can we.

Maths never was my strong point. Mindyou the playoffs was looking like next seasons dream so happy if we stick with where we are and try and maintain momentum

Obviously disappointed we played some great stuff up to them scoring, but as we know we should’ve buried the game by then! Appleton’s subs changed the game and threw us off balance, tbh I think most of us thought deep down automatic was really not on, just gotta keep producing those performances now to keep us up there as things are tightening up in the play off area. We’ve got a strong hard working and skilful side now so let’s hope we do it, I think we will! Come on you Pool!

I said on another thread we can’t win every game. A point is still a point closer with another game down. The POs are on.

That was frustrating to say the least, but I really think we should focus on the performance here. We were excellent for most of the game and we aren't playing a poor side - they're 6th for a reason. Yes in poor form but they have quality in their side.
The biggest talking point ought to be our second goal, which was honestly befitting of a world cup final it was that good.
We had numerous good chances to finish the game and didn't, and that's really a slight throwback to earlier in the season when we struggled to score.
Another point, continue the unbeaten run, and as annoying as that was we should be focussing on the bigger picture where things are looking very positive indeed. It will be a scrap for a play off place but the players should forget about this now, it's gone, done and dusted and get back on it against Accy next week.

By far the best team since the Holly days and todays performance for the 1st 75 minutes was outstanding across all areas, but we should have put them out of sight which is a bit of a sickener to say the least.

At the end of the day we have no control over posh and hulls results. If they keep winning which they are it’s irrelevant. Top 2 is gone for me but I’m confident we will be in the play offs

Just one game at a time , we played very well today, other teams will drop points , it was always going to be the playoffs , bring them on !

Sunderland 1 Charlton 2

We showed how excellent we can be, yes. But as others have said, we lost concentration and we certainly didn't mark the wide men well enough. Lessons to learn from that.

Maxwell pulled off a world class save not long before his boob. If he'd let that one in nobody would have complained. Who'd be a keeper?

Very disappointing ending but can't fault them for 70 minutes and could have been out of sight. Embleton looked a bit off the pace today and his shooting is terrible - hitting the top of the stand from 12 yards out in the centre of goal is nowhere near good enough. Presumably Mitchell is injured which would have given us a better option second half.

We're not playing bad but need to bounce back on Tuesday to keep the momentum going. I still fancy us to catch Sunderland but we'll need to tighten up.

I would happy to play Lincoln over two legs in the play-offs - if that was the away leg I think we'd be confident going into the second game.

Simmered down a bit now. Bloody frustrating but in the grand scheme of things it's not a bad point away from home.

Jerry will be rueing those missed chances and we do still have that knack of switching off in us - but, to be fair, when players are tiring at the end of games in the final 20 mins or so, we're still really missing that depth on the bench as back up with the likes of Madine, Keshi, CJ and Stewart being injured.

With a full side today we'd have closed that out IMO. To be honest, on another day we'd have won 3 or 4-0 with the same side out.

Let's come back with a bang on Tues!
