for those of you who like to criticise the PL, the greed and the players, it seems details of Messis' contract at Barcelona have been leaked. The guy is on 123 million a year. That's well in excess of 2 million pounds a week. Don't believe there's a player in the PL who would be on a quarter of that. So the PL ain't all that bad eh! I think this pretty much puts to bed any chance of him joining the PL. Just maybe all this so called discontent of Messi at Barca has been manufactured by him and his agent to extract even more money when his contract is up for renewal this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo the worlds best player but more than likely not the best paid. 😉

No he's not. Please post facts.

His earning maybe the figure you quoted, but Barca are paying half that +/-. The rest is image rights, TV ads etc etc.

Plus Barca make an absolute fortune from his name. I won't place a figure on that and pass it on a fact though 😉

Meanwhile a member of the PL was paying Sanchez £400k pw for no return on or off the pitch, though the player I'm sure was happy to take his total £650k pw package.

I wouldn't dream of calling you a fan boy but nothing I hate more than all this fan boy Ronaldi v Messi b0110x.

I love it when one of them scores 2 in a big win in the afternoon and we hear all about how the other one always goes missing in big games, only for the other fecker to score 4 later on that night in an even bigger game.

They have both been the best players in the world for over a decade and I doubt we'll see the same again.

Doesn't mention that in the bbc article. Just talks about his deal with Barca

Just having a bit of fun 2020.

Bale is on £600,000 a week. The average across the Premier League including all squad players is £70,000 a week. Whichever way you look at it, it's too much when the rest of football is hanging by a thread.

Recidivist in sensible post shocker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not really. His post is tosh. Messi and his agent negotiated the deal. It wasn't a case of accepting less at all. More likely a case of asking for a bit more than offered. That's how negotiations work.

Are RM paying a fair bit of that? He's only on loan and as it seems unlikely to stay. Even so my point is the same.

I wouldn't think I'll be making a career out of defending him but he was right in what he was saying re asking for less than what's on offer.

Wiz should also take note before he starts banging on about Premier League players earning £70k per week.

Does he think those working under him earning £x wouldn't move down the corridor for £x + 10% because he lets them play Subbuteo at dinnertime ?

It cracks me up when footballers are accused of a lack of loyalty when moving to treble their salaries.

Tottenham pay half of Bales wages I think at 300k a week.
I can't see Levy being remotely happy at paying that kind of money for someone who sits on the bench. He's been a huge failure so far. Quite surprised there's not a lot more made about it in the media.

Agree about your media comment. I've seen most of Spurs games this season on tele and he does look a long way short of the player he was. I can understand the fitness levels at the start but he's not got that blistering pace he once had. That said he's a damn sight better than Bergwijn who currently starts.

I have no issue with players moving to earn more.
It's the whole inflated salaries across the board that isnt right when clubs with over a century of history go to the wall for less than £100,000, when players are literally sat in the stands getting that per week.

We've done this one to bits and then a bit more Wiz.

The revenue generated by football is largely from those who want to watch Superstar United v Galactostar City and have no interest in Shrewsbury v Lincoln.

When Mrs Wiz goes spending your millions in Harvey Nicks they don't give 10% to your corner shop.

We have a Harvey Nicks on Briggate, so it is, actually 😉

Wiz - I was never doubting that Harvey Nicks had branched out to Yorkshire or that your wife didn't shop there !!!!!!!

I was just saying that they don't give 10% of their takings to your local shop.
Shops are in direct competition. The Premier League give 'solidarity payments' to the EFL.

The issue for me is that the gap gets larger and larger as they seek to maintain their own positions. There will be another call for a stop to promotion ere long.

Money aside, Ronaldo has done it in the PL, Spain and Italy. Ultimate pro, a leader, brings out the best in teammates, loves the game and is always involved.

Messi, great player he is, has only done it in Spain. Not a leader, goes missing when the going gets tough, often strolls through games with a flash of brilliance.

Just my opinion of course.

Wiz, I am sure we both know the ins and outs of football and we both know anything we tell each other already.

It's about the value of the lower leagues and I am not sure what you and I think about that is relevant.

There will be negotiations between the lower leagues and the top clubs/Premier League and I'm guessing they will struggle to agree on the value, the lower leagues will think they don't get enough and the top clubs will think they have to pay too much.

Yes, I'm sure that's the case. It's all too late really. Should have never split off from the Football League.

And has failed repeatedly at international level. WC runner-up? Pah!
