Loyalist Riots

The Cat in the Hat is very conspicuous by his absence on this subject (unless I have missed him). No doubt if he does make an appearance then the blame will lie with Boris

"The disorder follows a controversial decision last week not to prosecute 24 Sinn Fein politicians for attending the large-scale funeral of former IRA man Bobby Storey during strict Covid-19 rules limiting public gatherings.

The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) cited police engagement with funeral organisers and a lack of clarity in Stormont's coronavirus regulations as reasons why they ruled out taking action.

Unionist parties have expressed their anger over the decision.

They have demanded the resignation of PSNI Chief Constable Simon Byrne, claiming he has lost the confidence of their community.

Tensions have also been building in loyalist areas in recent months over Northern Ireland's post-Brexit trading arrangements under the NI Protocol.

Unionist parties have been calling for its removal as they say it imposes an economic border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

Menacing graffiti and posters have appeared in parts of Northern Ireland in opposition to the protocol.

There is also an element of grievances having built up during the prolonged coronavirus lockdown.

For some disaffected young people the disorder could partly be a release of frustration over the many months of restrictions."

Why are they “Loyalists”, when the country/government they purport to be loyal to, doesn’t actually give a toss about them?

Until it needs the votes of it’s elected MP’s that is!

A foreign country, no one in England gives a toss about the place after centuries of endless aggro its about time the Irish sorted their own carp out and should be left to their own devices

If these disturbances show anything definite, it is that Europe and the UK cannot afford any hint that that the Belfast Agreement can be tinkered with. This puts all of the gobshite rants from senior politicians into perspective.

That’s a question for them to answer I guess. You can be loyal to the crown not the incumbent government, would be my personal viewpoint.

A few choice replies from the 'Bristol Riots' thread below, all strangely absent in their condemnation of these riots here? I particularly enjoyed Jaffa the Hut calling out Cat for not condemning the rioters, yet none have appeared on here?

Interviewer on BBC1 asked police chief do you think the response was proportionate? I bet he was dying to say no I wish we had used our batons and could have water cannons 👊👊👊

The response by the police was pathetic, not their decision because this country is such a soft touch pandering to woake snowflake left wing wasters.

Made my blood boil when the interviewer said to that Police chief there’s some footage going around social media of Police using heavy handed tactics on some of the rioters. 🤔
WTF are they supposed to do if their being attacked? Stand and let the shit get kicked out of them?
If it was any other country in the world the Police wouldn’t be even getting attacked for fear of the full weight of the law but in the U.K. its deemed as acceptable.
Anyone attacking a Police officer no matter what the issue is you should be thrown inside for 12 months minimum and as for those scroats setting fire to Police vehicles should get 5 years for being an arsonist and endangering life. 🤬

For what it is worth, it would be a good idea if the police did not go round attacking journalists covering the protest, or telling lies about injuries sustained by police officers.
People should read this for a balanced view about what happened, rather than the right wing media, or the opportunistic political posturing of Johnson and Patel.
So you’re not condemning the rioters then Cat?

Surprise surprise.

Are these protesters rioting when the police chose to violently attack them?

So when the police try to defend themselves it’s classed as a violent attack yet when scum attack the police and set fire to Police vehicles it’s acceptable and Police should not retaliate?

You really do live in a commie dream world, I’am just surprised Piers Corbyn isn’t leading the charge or is he?

What do you want the police to do? Leave the smelly vermin to fester in the middle of a road? I will say it again, the army should be brought in to shoot them👍🏻

Well it’s obviously bothering Lytham to such an extent that his head is about to explode so here’s my views.

By the way I've been absent from replying to this thread as I’ve been rather busy last few days staining my decking/fencing.

But you can read across my views to ALL rioters who cause trouble and clash with the Police.

Now then I hope that makes you happy so go let some steam off.

Ps
I’ve still yet to see CAT condemn the Bristol riots so there’s your next essay up for debate.

I don't fully get the Irish tensions but it's been simmering under the surface, or erupting over the last week or so, it seems like a very fragile situation, I really hope there can be some sort of peace & not a return to the troubles of old. Any hard reaction to this will simply add fuel to the fire. I know the rioting was wrong, but thanks to this ffing Brexit it seems we've stirred things up again.

To me that’s no different than that scroat who set fire to that Police van in Bristol while officers were still in it.
Both responsible persons should face an attempted murder charge if/when caught.
Or the anti establishment idiots who pulled down the Colston statue, they need locking up.

I think they are slightly different, in that one was a perfectly executed attack with a homemade bomb on a civilian, the other was a ridiculous and in all likelihood futile attempt at harming a law and order professional, but I agree if caught both should be severely dealt with.

I don't care what it's been from BLM, Far Right, Statues, Vigils, Bristol and The Irish etc not one of them in the middle of a pandemic should have gone ahead.
Nearly everyone has turned sour and ended up in violence
FFS your not even supposed to leave your house unless it's essential but don't worry go and have a good old riot while the Police are more interested nicking kids having a party and giving out 200/800 quid fines.

But you could argue attacking the Police (granted it wasn’t a fire bomb) should carry a more severe punishment? In reality throwing a brick at someone could kill them if it struck the head.

Some people say that, and I understand why, but the way I see it if I'm a copper in Bristol and there is a riot going on and when I get home I tell the missus that some dickhead put a burning sheet of plywood under my van she will raise her eyebrows and shake her head.
If I go to work to do a shift on the 22A bus and she gets a call from my boss saying that she needs to come and pick me up because I'm a bit traumatised because a scumbag has nailed my bus with a petrol bomb she would be distraught.......I think!
Both unacceptable but personally I think worse for the bus driver, part and parcel of a police officers job is that dickheads will try to hurt them, it's not right but it's a fact, bus drivers dont sign up for that!

From Arlene Foster
The bus hijackings and attempted murder are bad but they draw attention away from the real crime of Sinn Fein mourners not standing 2m apart at a funeral 9 months ago.
Could have come from some of the more bigoted posters on here!

Indeed, just pour more petrol on the issue Arlene

there’s no right here, just lots of never ending wrongs in NI politics and often day to day life

I have been there many times and normally it’s fine but then you go to certain places and it feels very uncomfortable - e g my last visit to Larne - more red, white and blue than you could imagine a very unwelcoming place for liberal minded or certain religions - as intimidating as you can imagine without a word being said or a stop being necessary

And so it will never change without a mindset reboot

Larne with Red ,white ,blue painted kerb-stones in some estates and union flags flying and you felt unwelcoming ffs

I also think one thing missing from Ulster is the lack of voice and coverage of the peaceful citizens - so all you have ever seen or ever get to see, is violence and worse

it’s a bit like the history of football 1% of fans create all the trouble (& somehow stay immune from the law) and the vast majority of fans never have their voices heard and just enjoying the football experience

ilike going to places and matches, I like chatting to people enjoying their humour, character and interesting environment - I don’t like violence, racism, nationalism, thuggery and feeling unsafe or threatened - I also like entertaining visiting fans at Blackpool - bizarrely people will spend more if you make them feel at home
