He played really well in the cup game against Harrogate but then was dropped all together last night.

He's more cultured than Husband and offers a lot more than him going forward and from set pieces. Hubbie had a decent game last night though and should keep the shirt on that basis. We have some good players not even making the bench so competition for places is excellent.
The only chances Pompey had were both as a consequence of Husband's mistakes. He was solid outwith that, but Marquis could have killed us in those moments.

Wizard your Husband vendetta is becoming OTT. Husband and Turton were SUPERB last night. The 2 Marquis chances came from a Robson error and a Ballard error.

I like you think Garbutt may replace him in the side eventually, but credit where it's due.

Turton had one of his best games for us last night but Husband wasnt superb...he was probably best descibed as capable

Husband is on thin ice. All it would take is a red card, an injury or couple of bad games and he’s out the team and may struggle to get back in. Up to him to keep disciplined and putting in a shift to keep the shirt.

What did Husband do wrong? When you're playing the top goalscorers in the league and they don't have a sniff...I'd credit the entire back four myself.
He was caught out of position a few times and always looks like an accident waiting to happen but last night was one of his more steady games. The defence all played well last night but some looked better than others. I personally think we have better options though some wont agree. ld have got rid of Husband this season as I see him as an average lower half division 1 player. Add to that the danger of a red card and I think he is lucky to be in the team.

Any player under performing will be replaced as we have good cover for all positions now. I am a Jordan Williams fan but he’s going to struggle getting back in after his injury.

Nobody else has looked comfortable defending at left back this season - yet. If I am wrong, tell me who? It's not Mitchell, who has looked poor defensively but excellent going forward, and Garbutt hasn't had much opportunity yet but hasn't yet nailed that position down mainly due to injury - time will tell if he is the man for the job. He's another who looks to have more going forward, and that was the view of his previous manager and supporters. But he may be better than our other options in that position.

Thats fair comment but Husband hasnt looked comfortable either...I like Mitchell and think he will come good though maybe not for us. I do think Garbutt will cement his place and his set pieces are a notch above what anyone else can deliver. You know my opinion (and I have made no secret of it) is 3 at the back (Viking Ballad Marv) and two wing backs attacking at pace. I believe we would be title contenders with that formation as it would suit the players much more. Anyway they are doing fine at the moment so happy days...I wouldnt have picked that team last night and they shaded an even match by nullifying the Pompey attacking options. I think some are getting carried away with a good performance and hard fought 1-0 win. Just remind me again how many clear cut chances we actually created and explain how some fans think we were value for much more than 1-0.

The use of both Turton and Husband reflects a more pragmatic approach by NC. They aren't going to show attacking flair and intent like Gabriel and Garbutt may do, but they're a little more solid. Both could definitely be replaced for certain as you'd be silly to try and claim there aren't better full backs around in League 1, but both are 6/7 out of 10's for most games and that's acceptable until something better comes along.

I'm happy to trust NC on tactics. 3 at the back has benefits, but also costs. You lose elsewhere.

Mitchell apparently was a winger who got converted to a left back at United - well it must have still been the early stages of his conversion. It sounds like he wasn't making it as a winger there and they tried a different tack. My gut feeling is that he's not a full back and will do more for us as a winger. Something similar might apply to garbutt - but I've hardly seen him yet. Didn't watch the Harrogate game, and he was thrown into heavy waters against Ipswich when not shipshape and ready to sail.

As I said, the very few chances they had were created by us, not anything they did .

I mean that a simple header was missed allowing Marquis in.It wasnt through any decent play by them
It was a ball over the top. To single someone out isn't reasonable in my opinion. It's not a simple situation, and others were involved.

And Maxwell. I honestly thought they were going to take the wee wee with their reputation for set pieces but no. Maxwell came off his line and either gathered or caused disruption. Well done to all five at the back.

All round game Garbutt will bring more to help us win. Not convinced that Husband is a better defender than Garbutt and he definitely isn't better with the ball.
I hope so. Will certainly offer more going forward.

Jesus christ, weve got another 1.

Another what Fred?..I am delighted we won 1-0 but thats what it was a hard fought 1-0 against a decent side. We wouldnt have won that game six weeks ago and as I have said this team could really go places now they have the winning habit. However we still are not creating enough clear cut chances and that needs addressing.
