Luke Garbutt

Well NC says that signing Garbutt is a sign of how far this club has progressed so he must see him as a big player. I'm intrigued really. I wonder if Critchley even knows what he is going to do? He could potentially use them both down the left and take KK/Lubala out of the team. But he paid a significant fee for Lubala apparently. I can't see Anderson being dropped, but maybe Ward could be. Doesn't really add up though. Maybe it's all about player rotation during a heavy winter, two games a week.
It may be that Critch is a huge fan of Garbutt and when the opportunity arose to sign him, he took it, thinking he knows he is good enough to fit in to the team.
I have no idea, but I'm so happy we are in the position we are to discuss this kind of thing.

No-it was a fair point to make. I once organised a pre match road show for Leeds fans in the Old Bridge, and it was ruined by a drunken opinionated minority who abused Peter Lorimer that night.
Sometimes I despair at the lack of respect people show to others, where sometimes they use football as an excuse.
Abused Peter Lorimer? one of the Leeds greats?

Maybe Kaikai is off? I'm not sure.
Someone said this over the weekend after his mystery knock meant he wasn't even on the bench. I wouldn't be surprised at anything with us right now.
To add onto that, I think the only 2 players from last season that are safe are Maxwell and Turton. Turton only because he's just signed another contract with us. The rest we realistically have replacements for.

kai kai is far from safe...Id say he is very lucky to still be in the mix and is on borrowed time unless he improves...Citch signs players to improve the squad and to play

And Nottingham probably, who was wanted by Crewe but NC chose to keep him.

I'd like to think Husband is safe. He's part of the furniture. The oak sideboard probably. And a much improved player.

Critch is building a formidable squad with excellent cover in all positions or will have come the end of the window, for a long season ahead. Most teams cutting there corona cloth accordingly, Mr Saddler has invested wisely and swept the Grayson era under an expensive carpet. We are going up as champions

Garbutt on his Ipswich spell...

“I played in all three positions down the left, as wing-back, a winger and at left-back so it’s difficult for me to say which is the better one,” he said.

“I started well as a winger but then I got injured. When I came back into the team I was then never really back on the left wing again, which was a little bit frustrating because I felt I could help the team a lot more from that left wing position.

“Anywhere down the left is fine by me, though and I feel confident I can be an asset there.

“Where my best position is is a good question really. At the start of my career I was an attacking full back but then in the last 18 months I’ve played as a winger and scored a few goals. It’s another string to my bow which, for managers, is pretty good because I can do a job in both positions.”

KaiKai is surely safe. Many forget his position pre-Grayson was attacking midfield.

Used interchangeably with Anderson and Ward, and we’ve got a very strong, mobile central midfield.

Sorry but I have said this before KaiKai is NOT safe, he needs to start putting in some impressive performances when he next gets a chance, he cannot live on his pervious form. NC is now full of options including bringing another player or 2 into the squad and will not hesitate to leave him out and well down the pecking order. KaiKai it’s down to you when you next get the chance, and if he doesn’t perform he can have no complaints.

Apart from his goal against Everton in pre season, Kai Kai has done little to impress. Garbutt and Mitchell on the left for me tomorrow. Maybe start Yeats on left wing?

Critchley said Garbutt is quite a way off being fit - no pre-season and no matches since lockdown.

Yeats? W.B. Yeats?

I suspect that KK doesn't work hard enough for Critchleys liking. High press doesn't work if theres just one player not pulling their weight.

The fact we're in a position to drop KK and not weaken the side (and possibly strengthens it), is amazing.

Thank God we 1. Have a coach who appreciates these things (how many times have we seen players thrown in when clearly not fit) and 2. How lucky are we to have a squad that doesn't need new signings thrown in straight away!

It's to be hoped this lad has something about him. He must be fancying his chances of walking straight in to this team after the shambles at the back. The big problem is again, like Mitchell is that all the reviews say 'good going forward, not so good at the back'.
