Whilst in town the other day saw Mamma's was reopening. An institution back in the day! Like old girlfriends they say you should never go back but has anybody been since it reopened?

No, but the menu looks a bit naff.
Just looked and doesn't seem much choice....

But its obviously been redone so another improvement to town.

I would go and try it but not jumping out at me bar a pizza... even then not a lot of choice.

Limited menu...

Is it the old guard running it? Or have they moved on? I know Nunzio opened his own restaurant but there was also Pierro and Ignacio?

Did they used to have a football team? Remember knocking them out of the north west champions cup on our way to becoming the only cheshire team to ever win it….

Took the g/f (now wife....yes I know), walked in and she fell through the floorboards- no she wasn't wafer thin, but a great big hole under a rug.

Never got the fascination with mammas, Ill Casaro was my choice. Think the old guy and his wife at mammas retired. Quite a few to choose from in the 80's 90's, Da vincis, la piazza, la fontana, capri, carriages, queen st one and one on king st, cant remember names but was good for late drinks.

La Fontana was my 'entertaining a lady friend' venue of choice.

Good to see it’s back and I like a smaller menu. it should be better quality and helps with the indecisiveness!

Being a Bispham lad it was always la piazza on red bank road for me. I remember being freaked out by the hairy eared waiter as a kid, I hear he’s still there and they’re as bushy as ever 👂

Tell me more Shootz, I managed the team as we dominated the local Sunday league in the nineties winning back to back Lancashire Cups and numerous titles locally as well as touring Italy and coming back undefeated against three semi pro Italian teams one of which was on Sky Sports playing Inter Milan not that long ago, we had a top side back then.

I played for IAS in Bollington , think we beat you 4-3 or 5-4 with Peter Band getting a hat trick. He went on to have a great career in Non League with Alty, Hyde and Northwich and is now assistant manager at Macclesfield FC. Managed to bag one myself but to be fair we might of been a little fortunate to advance. We beat Grey Horse? or similar in the final in about 1998 i would say.

Guilliano original owner was a ref in the Sunday Alliance. Think he's moved back to Italy. The place had a good atmosphere back in the day. Hope they have got rid of the red and white table cloths.

Thanks for the update, I do recall the name of your team, I'll check back in the records we hold to find out a bit more about the game and the year etc. We may well be the only local side who ever entered the Champion of Champions cup as it was mainly contested by Manchester teams and we managed to do very well in it too including a couple of semi final appearances, however having to play a semi final on a Good Friday was a difficult ask as we never managed to put out anything like our best team on the day, and I recall on both occasions our opponents were loaded with good semi pro players who "guested" for them and made the difference against our somewhat weakened team.

i can say nobody in my team was semi - pro. Bandy was spotted playing in the final by Mike Mckenzie and went to him at Hyde United. I do know that the team we played in the final were stocked with semi pro players and it was quite a surprise we won , i was especially pleased on a personal level as i bagged the winner in a 3-0 victory..😉
