Manager Situation Update

From Matt Scrafton:

I understand Ian Evatt was told last week he won't be considered for the Blackpool job due to his lack of experience. There's also some doubts over whether Nathan Jones wants it. He's apparently unsure about relocating and is still receiving a payoff from Stoke

Stick with Dunn and the formation we had on Saturday until the right manager comes available.
We’ve got competition for places in that formation and at least we’ll see some decent games for the rest of the season. We don’t need to rush and bring the wrong man in.

We've had an experienced manager, didnt work, so surely its finding the right person regardless? It's entirely possible to assess somebody with less experience and conclude that he has the required attributes. One of which might be that he's full of energy and enthusiasm and determination to prove himself. With some evidence that he is translating that into success in a real life situation, at a club that's top of its league.

Who are these experienced managers anyway? Are they still motivated and up to date? Jones has three and a bit years experience, Evatt has neatly two. Is that a massive difference? Certainly isn't.

Doesn't really stack up IMO.

Why would you tell someone if he hasn’t even applied for the post yet? 🙄

Hmmm, I certainly wouldn't want Jones now, he can go about his god bothering without any distractions and get his payout from Stoke.

I think ruling Evo out for being inexperienced is the view of an inexperienced owner. I worry that the person who is close to Heckingbottom could be a problem, he would be a totally underwhelming signing, so who does that leave? The Spanish guy? Who managed in that hotbed to top football, Goa!! What experience has he got? I hope they start re-thinking their recruitment strategy. If there's no one available now, don't get someone in for the sake of it, let the caretaker get on with it and then you have time to look properly. Personally I am gutted if they have overlooked Evo!

Appears to me the hierarchy at BFC have learnt nothing from the Grayson debacle. Not holding formal interviews means it will be another anointing of someone’s favourite. The only one in the frame who is known by someone in a position of authority at the club, or so it seems, is Heckingbottom. He could turn out to be an inspirational appointment, if it’s him, but I for one would have grave reservations. Tho old pals act is not the best way to do it.

I don't know why you'd publicly rule out someone when you seemingly haven't got any certainty about the preferred candidate.

Interesting phrase about not doing a 'traditional interview process'

Looks like Jones must be holding out for the Manchester United Job....

Grab your collective cohones and brin Evo in....

Simon Sadler doesn’t need to rush things. Chris hughton would be ideal for our club and there’s plenty like him. Can’t remember the name of the manager at Wigan when we were in the prem but I also liked him.

All things considered Thommo is my choice if he was interested. If the experience card is a major factor he may not be considered which would be missing a trick I believe.

Agree. Not a convincing approach. Deciding Jones is experience and Evatt isnt, when there not that much difference. Bad appointment number 2 on its way?

If someone can provide some insight in to what Heckingbottom has done to warrant him being the bookies second choice, then I'm all ears.....

If one short successful spell as caretaker 4 years ago is enough to get the job, then I guarantee the fans here will turn on him within a matter of weeks should we not start winning games almost immediately.

Thommo is not a No 1, he's a No 2.... He's the man who is mate's with the players and boosts morale etc..

The only reason that Sergio Lobera grabbed my attention is that I was in Goa a few weeks ago and happened to watch one of the matches before Lobera was sacked.
His team played expansive football, most of the players looked calm on the ball and they wasn't afraid to shoot on site.
Now folk will say, ha what standard is the football like in that league, or its non league at best but Evatt is managing in non league and is apparently the best thing since sliced bread.
Something must have happened for Sadler to have him on the radar in the first place but with Jones stalling on an answer and Evo apparently not even being considered then Lobera could be the curve ball that no one saw coming!

After seeing the stats, he does have a very good CV. He is the most preferable if we don't get Evo. But there aren't that many managers we would want out of work so that could be a reason very few in the shortlist.

To rule out Evatt due to lack of experience is short sighted and ridiculous. We saw what happened when we plumped for yesterday`s man, a predictable(by me)and total flop. We need a young forward thinking up and coming ambitious man and if another mistake is made it will be a total disaster for both the supporters and the owner.

Have some courage and some imagination Mr Sadler and go for tomorrow`s man this time.We can`t afford another choice like the last unimaginative, disastrous choice.

Multiple formal interviews have happened.

I've said previously Evo made the long list, was not invited for an interview.
Mistake in my opinion.

I can see both sides of the coin, there is a list a managers taking over league teams with no prior experience at the level then crashing and burning quiet badly.

equally all proven managers have to take a shot somewhere.

It doesn't sound promising with the candidates we have left, Heckingbottom was definitely interviewed. I hope we do not resort to that.

Reload and search again would be my advice, but what do I know.

Agree with many aboutJones if he doesn't want it goodbye then.. has anyone watched Barrow this season? I watched them play borehamwood fc a few weeks ago.. got to admit they played awful seems Evo is playing the same style as Grayson long ball hoof football to Target men. Adi Yussuf was the best player on the pitch when he came on for borehamwood fc. Barrow wont finish top this season and will be lucky to hang on to be promoted... Evo needs several more years and experience of managing at higher level.

It would seem obvious that the 2 best potential candidates are Evo and Lobera, certainly not Heckingbottom or Jones.
Lobera looks like he has difficulty staying in one place for long...If I was looking at him as a candidate for a role in my business, I'd suspect he had personaility issues and struggled with authority.

If what is being suggested as the short list is the short list, I'd restart the process and open up interviews to other candidates....I'd also consider locking down the position of Caretaker and biding my time.

In the words of your profile picture and name:

FAKE NEWS

MBGA your predictions are just wild guesses based on apparently one game.Barrow are top, scoring lots of goals based on Evatt`s carefully set out roadmap of effective and attractive football which has clearly achieved remarkable results at an apparently down and out club.My clear impression is you are completely wrong.

If Heckingbottom made the interviews and Evatt didn't you have to question the people making the decisions, surely. That's just ridiculous in my view.

"We want experience. any experience will do!"

Get a grip! Let's hope we haven't offended Evatt to the point he goes elsewhere next. He should at least get an interview and show that we are interested in him and his development.

The more that comes out about this situation, on the back of how and why Grayson was hired, makes me wonder if the decision makers know what they're doing.

A fan and very rich he may be, but that doesnt mean he's surrounded himself with the right people to successfully run a football club.

Does anybody know if Barrow are a completely full time club?
I would think that if today goes by then Nathan Jones doesnt want it. I heard him in a podcast a few weeks ago in an interview and i found it again last night to relisten. He said he enjoyed a break away after leaving Stoke but now is itching to get back in the game because hes a worker and loves the job he does. Also said that the offer would have to be the right one although he knows that he cant wait around for ever because hes not a pochettino.

Be interesting to see the reaction on here if Simon weaver got the job.

A similar position to Evo but has taken a team from bottom of the northern conference to the top of the national conference. They play good football and he has bettered more affluent opposition like fylde, Wrexham, Chesterfield etc....

I have a feeling it will be be a meltdown with the reaction.

If only gentleman Jim was still here and helping with his wise advice because it sounds like the current advisers could be leading us to disaster again. We cannot afford another choice as bad as the last.

It`s extremely worrying.

I think it's difficult to really know what is going on as the good ship Blackpool has plugged all its leaks so we are relying on scraps from the table and guess work.

I am sure Sadler knows how important a decision this is and won't be rushed into things. We may well be pleasantly surprised when the announcement comes..... we could also be WTF!!

I know who my favourite is, by a country mile, but it doesn't make a jot of difference what I want.

First the disastrous Grayson appointment.

Now Evo seems ruled out for "inexperience".

Would the club have vetoed Neil Warnock and Paul Hurst earlier in their careers?

Both started in non-League football.

The directors should recant and hire Ian, who loves Blackpool and launching attacks.

Find the whole "looking for a manager with experience" thing pretty ironic seen as we've just sacked the guy with the best track record for promotions in League One 🤣

But it sounds like Jones was offered the job very soon after Larry left. Which sounds like rushing to me.
