Manager update from the club expected today

As long as it’s a positive update which I think it will be. Maybe not a new manager named but I can wait as long as they appoint an experienced manager who plays attacking entertaining football who will get the players playing with fight and passion for our club
Patience is a virtue which unfortunately some of our fans don’t have

According to Radio lancs this morning, an update from the club is expected today . I somehow reckon it will be just an update on the process rather than an appointment, but we'll see .

I understand Ben Mansford is meeting the media. Unlikely to be an announcement. Suspect this will drag on into next week

Obviously the natural conclusion to jump to is the successful businessmen running our football club haven't the foggiest, and that everyone on here could clearly do a better job.

I have no idea what's going on (no leaks these days) but if I had to guess they went all out to get Jones, who for whatever reason has knocked them back (probably the Stoke experience / money). As there is no rush and no standout #2 candidate, they're probably assessing their options.

For the record I believe Jones is mad to not take it, and naturally I hope he seriously regrets it over next 6-12 months as we start to fulfil our potential.

I still say they are going to pull a candidate from Left field that nobody has thought of. I just hope it Nigel Adkins so I am 255 quid better off :)

Yeah wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone no one has mentioned. Adkins was someone I was initially keen on so we will see.

The main points to take away:

- process is underway, but no timeframe
- prepared to make an unpopular decision with fans if the board feel it's right
- important to respect club's history of 'high octane' entertaining football
- new man is likely to work as head coach

Latest from Scrafton, that sounds to me that Evatt is definitely not in the running but it could be Heckinbottom. 😔

Steve Thompson sounds like a possibility with this. For me that'd work - he was the constant under Larry, Tony Parkes and Oli.

Thommo is a No2.... He’s the bloke who picks the players up when they haven’t been picked by the head coach....He’s one of the lads ... not the boss. IMO.

I’m assuming we must also be planning to appoint a DOF?

Unpopular decision with fans , so to me sounds like to me
we won’t listen to fans concerns , paying season ticket holders , who are we , we are just fans
isn’t a true relationship of a club , is when board and fans are united
didnt we have total unrest with previous owners

because he saved the club , does that make him , what ever he does , it’s ok , not in my books it dosnt
fans simple won’t turn up if it’s someone we don’t like , look at Grayson , gates down , plus surly that isn’t good for business , this is my opinion thou and fans will probably not agree with me
simon Sadler great he took over the club , I am one of those who did stop , not a penny more
but dosnt mean I have agree with Simon if I think it’s wrong

ignore the fans at your peril,a club is nothing without its fans
True, but just because we have a new owner doesn't mean we'll always get exactly what we want.

I don't want Heckingbottom either, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have the fans' backing should he get the job. He did a good job at Barnsley and got poached by Leeds.

If we truly wanted him we'd have appointed him by now anyway. We're obviously looking for better.

I hear unpopular......that means Heckingbottom, cause he has such an excellent record, hes the man for the job 🙄..........just for the record i'd still give him a chance.

It's an easy choice for me and that's Evatt.

Unlike most , I can't say I'm completely against Heckingbottom. Although his last managerial appointments have not been great if you look at his coaching qualifications they are actually top notch . Also , people go on about being " friends " with the CEO , surely one was simply an employer and the other an employee .And for him to be appointed is a big risk for the CEO in that if it goes wrong he will get hugely criticised . But the club has to be looking at better " head coaches " than him .

One thing is certain.
Simon Sadler, and his Board have to get this one right, otherwise all hell will break out from the fans.

In the Premier league clubs can do virtually anything they want. Because they are awash with money they don’t for financial reasons alone need fans. Lower league clubs are a different kettle of fish, they need supporters for every reason. Having said that SS owns the club not us, so it is up to him how he runs it and the decisions are his alone. But, and it’s a big but, he should take our wishes into consideration. I will finish by saying ignore us at your peril, remember the Os.

I don't get it. Seems quite a simple appointment to me. The style they say they want also alligns with that of who the fans want. He would be given much more time to get it right. Heckinbottom would be the same as Grayson. Few losses and the crowd will turn cos they didn't want him in the first place.

Personally all I’m interested in is a successful team on the pitch and however that comes about is of no concern to me - that’s why we have an owner and a board of directors. Just because I’m a s/t holder I don’t believe that gives me the right to call the shots (express opinions but that’s as far as it goes).

If Jones was the early (and only) one approached by the club before the Grayson potting, and Jones has now had a rethink and won't commit, then I think the club is doing no harm in backing off and starting the whole process again with a fresh list.

Given the state of the division it is highly unlikely we will face relegation this season. And there is almost no chance of promotion either. So Dunn in temporary charge, even to the end of the season, doesn't bother me. In my opinion the only important timeline is that we give the permanent new appointment a little time to settle in and assess the current squad before the next transfer window opens in the summer.

Ultimately supporters don't choose the new manager and if the club want to play it all close to their chest that is their right. The only use I can see in the club sharing anything in these sort of matters is if leaking stuff strengthens the negotiating position, which by and large it doesn't.

Just to play devil's advocate, how would people respond to Heckingbottom until the end of season alongside a likeable number 2 (GTF/Southern/Thommo...) and then Evo full time from the summer after, hopefully, getting Barrow promoted? Maybe even with Thommo continuing as number 2?

Before we all get too upset let them do there job. ok the comment about making an unpopular decision may not have been the best. As I’ve said before we cannot please everybody. It just sounds to me like some people are just looking forward to start complaining and moaning without giving any new manager a chance.

If they're looking for a Head Coach instead of a manager, there may be a high possibility whoever gets the role could be someone no one has heard much about.
Doesn't sound to me like they're going after a manager in the traditional sense like what many are expecting.

no the fact that he doesn't care what the fans want is the point in question, totally out of order

If the appointment of ANY manager can stop you going to games...then it sounds a bit like you'd be better off supporting a 'big club' and sticking to armchair stuff.

I don't want Heckingbottom but it's hardly justifies a boycott.
It wouldn’t be a boycott, I pay my money I take my choice. I have watched enough crap this season to last me a lifetime. If I don’t like the choice , and they appear to not give a monkeys, after almost 50 years I will stop going. Anyone else can do as they like.
