Manchester Airport Passenger pick up

I have had it suggested that rather than get ripped off for someone driving into the airport to pick you up, costing a min £6, but usually £10, you could walk to the station via the walkway, then across the road into one of the hotels, & get picked up there, for nothing (as it should be Robbing Bastards!!)

I arrived back this week in the early hours of the morning, & asked for a cab, to be told a 45min wait....

I hate this airport so much, but have little choice on most occasions....

Anyone else got any money saving tips at Rip off airport?

There's a garden centre nearby called Primrose Cottage (or similar) with a cafe. My friend usually waits there and I give him a ring once I'm through baggage pick up. He drives round, I'm waiting for him and we're off before any ticket officers get involved.
Is a rip off airport though. Are the shuttle buses no good?

But in order to drive to the Arrivals area, you have to pass through the pay station? Your Reg is photographed all round the airport site, so can't see how that works?

There are monitored CCTV cameras everywhere. You will even get a ticket if you stop briefly on yellow lines or the roundabouts on the approach roads. Manchester used to be a great experience, now it's just a rip off and due to constant development it's a nightmare experience.

You can do it from outside Terminal 2 arrivals but you have to be quick.

I pay the charge, but park up at the shops on the estate nr terminal 2, until I get the call saying they’re outside ready for pick up. At least I only ever pay the minimum.
Used to park on the roundabout, but you end up playing cat and mouse with the coppers.

I took my daughter 3 weeks ago and picked her up last week. Got speed flashed in the 50 zone both times 😡 and not doing much over.
No ticket for first flash yet which is over 14 days so hoping no film in the camera, and waiting with bated breath to see if one turns up for last week.
So yeah, money saving tip for if you're driving…… don’t do that 🥹

I'm not sure they still use film.

There’s a great pub at the end of Ringway, just before Heald Green, think it’s the Tatton Arms(?)
Or at least it was, worked on the industrial estate just opposite for a few years. It was a para pub in ww2, the first ever paras took off from Ringway and dropped around Tatton Hall, training. The pub used to have loads of ww2 photos on the wall.

Closed for a refurb until September

They’re renaming it the Ballymurphy Arms or not, we’re shooting to kill

I just stick fales number plates on and flick Vs at the cameras as I drive through to pick up my passengers 👍
Unfortunately that doesn't work as you need to get out through a barrier ..... tail gating doesn't work either.*

* Had a mate who always tail gated out of Manchester Arndale carpark.

Get the free bus to one of the Jets Parks. Get off at the first stop and get picked up there.

The airport hotels charge the same as the airport car parks. I dropped my sis outside an airport hotel entrance but there were signs and cameras and I had to pay the £5 or £6 fee even though I virtually threw her out of my car.

Incidentally en route to Manchester, I asked her if she had her passport - and she confirmed she had. I did the same for money, phone, boarding passes etc etc., to which she replied ‘affirmative’.

Finally I asked if she had her two pin travel plugs - to which she replied ‘I don’t need them - I’m terminal three’. 🤣🤣🤣 (in case you couldn’t tell, I confess I just made that joke up).
