Manchester Airport Ripp Off

Blame the easyjet/Ryanair model. Much like the issues that ended blackpool Airport, airlines want to pay meaningless amounts in landing fees. In return they will deliver large volumes of people to your facility.
The Airports margin comes from charges like this. But if you want cheap flights this is the result.
To be honest if you added all the extra costs that have been added over the last 30 years. Flights are probably not cheaper at all.

I dropped my misses and daughter off last week at Terminal 1, I stopped for about 15 seconds, just enough time for them to get out - £5 charge 😡

Airports just seem to be a place where they try their best to part hapless passengers from their money. One good thing about skipping holidays for 2 years is not having to go anywhere near Manchester fecking airport.👍

The ten local authorities who own the airport, had significant shortfalls in their budgets this last 18months, as they make so much from the airport..

Airport more like Shopping, Food & Beverage Mall.
Catching a flight almost seems secondary when you go on your holidays.

You can always use the Park & Ride and pay nothing. It's a 5 min trip on the bus.

They even now stop you dropping off and picking up at the railway station which was the trick the taxi drivers ( and locals) use to use....at least they can buy a permit( or use to🤔🤔) and they have cameras in place to catch and charge you( in essence a fine)and signs of course telling you so.
The worst thing is if you are picking someone up and need to park you will ( well pre Covid) find it hard to get a parking space and then realise if you are delayed waiting for your pick ups the cost goes up considerably, not the cheapest in the first place.
Maybe in some circumstances it might be worth finding the nearest metro link tram station if it just one person😉😉
Not sure about the park and ride but it is worth investigating.

That was my question tbh.
Someone says you have to pay for drop off/pick up
Then Kip says use the park & ride but I thought you had to pay to park up anyway!!😁
That's my experience Wiz.
In the past, when flying early, we've stayed at the Clayton hotel (next to the roundabout under the departure ramp), which out of season is about £100 for the night, but that includes 7 days parking at the hotel (they take your car off site & return it when you return from your hols) and a shuttle bus to & fro.

Maybe I should have said 'drop off area' rather than park & ride. Its essentially the same thing - the passenger gets a bus to the terminal.

"All passengers can use our free drop off area, located in JetParks 1, from where passengers can take a short shuttle bus ride to the terminals. The bus operates 24/7."

Afaik that's been open since they introduced the new charging.

There is a park and ride just off the main road in (follow T1, T3)
You can drop off and pick up at no cost but obviously cannot wait there
Alternatively (if you know the airport) you can go the old way to T3 and just before you get there you can pull into the side and drop your passengers off.
If they are not travelling from that terminal they will have to do a bit of walking.

The Free bus is not operating, until you ring them, there is a mobile number to call.... There is NO pick up area, there is a Drop off, but you cant be picked up from there without getting a fine... all about making money, they will soon be charging you to use the toilets & 50p per sheet of bog roll

If dickheads keep on paying it then they're going to keep on charging it. It's the same at Liverpool airport.

Anyway as some on the other say, it's only a fiver (+1), so just pay it and stop being a tightwad.
Like the Taxi drivers who have to pay it?
No way are you not going to be dropped outside the door they have got you by the short and curlies.

Wait to you get inside and pay over 3 quid for a coffee and fiver for a pint.😲

It’s things like this that make my blood boil, I notice since the Covid era most Taxis firms now charge over £100 for a trip to Manchester airport some as much as £115.
All the more reason to get on to the controlling Labour council and get Blackpool airport up and running again.
Or simply vote them out at the next local elections as the Conservative party are fully committed to reopening the airport for commercial flights.

I dont think you understand, its not an option, & it is £6 not £5, if you try to get round it & get picked up they have cameras all over & you will get a fine..

We use a local company for Manc. Airport trips.
I suppose the price will go up, especially as the £6 is now charged.
Last time it was £100 for the 'round trip'.
Carefree way and not too expensive when you consider car parking fees and the all round hassle

I've picked up & dropped off my son at the roundabout at the back of the station. As long as you're quick there is nothing anyone can do. Refuse to pay £5 for 1 minute.

FYI Manchester were the last airport in the country to start charging for drop off/pick up. The only Airport that doesn't charge is Heathrow, that's because public roads actually run through the airport complex so they can't charge to stop on them (much to their annoyance)

Heathrow now charges. Londoners are moaning about it but it's all to do with keeping the airports afloat in these times. They've all lost countless millions. I suspect there would be more moaning if the airport shut down completely or so reduced in size you had to travel to London to fly. £6 is nothing in terms of cost of a holiday.
