Manchester refuses to accept Tier 3

What next? Andy Burnham is now saying the government is exaggerating the impact of Coronavirus. Better tell that to the tens of thousands of bereaved families Andy.
To be fair he's making the point that infection rates in the city are dropping off

There are currently 64 people it hospital with Covid in Greater Manchester right now - only 4 new admissions yesterday

That compares with 200+ in April

Nottingham's new infection rates are currently more than 50% higher at over 1600 per 100,000

We should be working off hospital admissions not positive tests. The whole shebang should be based off Gupta and Heneghans work at Oxford rather than the current methodology.

Hang on a minute, some on here have been arguing to the hilt about the threat of C19, now there behind the decision to not go to T3 as infections are dropping off ? which is it, a death sentence or a cold. Don’t be fooled into thinking that politicians are not using this for political gain. That’s their job.

Yep. No need for wildly inaccurate models any more.

He's a labour party member, a former labour MP and cabinet minister under Brown, there is every reason to question his bona fides and doubt his motivation.

First off, it looks like he's trying to boost his standing within the party, possibly for a subsequent return to parliament and perhaps even an eye to challenging for the leadership.

Secondly, it looks like he's playing politics with the lives of the people he's supposed to represent to give the labour party a gain at the national level.

Finally, there is no way the government can allow itself to be held to ransom like this, it would set a precedent that every other city would follow if they had to raise the lockdown level.

Frankly disgusting behaviour from Mr Burnham and the labour party in general.
What is the source of all your opinions? Supposition piled on allegation piled on surmising.

Spot on Scara.

The same folk on here who continually warned us of the dangers of the virus and how we need to implement restrictions which will bankrupt the country are now complaining that restrictions are being implemented.

They don't give a chite about public health and/or the economy and it seems that they are only interested in criticising the Government and the authorities at every opportunity.

Come on folks, do you think we should lockdown or not ?

Dealing with this pandemic should be completely divorced from party allegiances and petty political points scoring. It is a time when a common threat to humanity needs a common and united effort from all of us to overcome it.The more the division and opposition there is in accepting the rules to overcome it, which may not be perfect but are surely moves in the right direction, the longer this virus will disrupt and undermine our lives and continue it`s lethal spread amongst us.In some respects this situation is analogous to the country fighting a war and as we know those are never won when deep divisions are apparent. In such times it is essential to follow appointed or elected leaders even when not always agreeing with them..

Even this rather pathetic little thread shows how far away many are from a united front, where we need to be in order to most effectively deal with this Covid curse. Constructive discussion as to the best action to take is natural and healthy but petty political squabbling and division as in Manchester though hopefully not in most other areas will, and may already have cost lives.

United we stand,divided we fall.
