Mask?

Yes or No?

And please, no obvious comments about Trump looking like Darth Vader.

This is a serious question.

Dehrr, Dehrrr, Dehrrr, Dehrrrrr,
Dur Dur Dur.
I’ve been wearing one on public transport. Weird and uncomfortable first time but totally used to it now.
I’ll do as I’m told to be honest. It definitely can’t hinder, and especially in confined spaces with lots of people mooching around. Not for me in the workplace though as we are socially distancing and hygienic souls as far as I’m aware!

As instructed. I wouldn't be wearing one if I didn't have to. Our local Coop has made wearing one mandatory.

I find it difficult to understand what people are saying through the muffled nature plus it steams up my specs😉

Aye, in the shops or on the train yeah. Feels a bit weird but don't get how it can be a bad thing.

Want a BFC one. Seen some people in club masks and jealous!

If you get a bog standard one from any bus half the money goes to the nhs and they have a wire at the top that you can tighten over the bridge of your nose to stop the air steaming up your glasses!
The things you learn 🤣🤣

Been wearing one at work up here all week, and when out shopping, or at least a thick snood. Had a few issues at first with a sore nose, still occasional steamed up glasses, but it has become the new norm. Does restrict breathing a bit, getting out of breath running up and down stairs which is normally OK. Today, in our shop, 100% compliance from our customers.

Yes. Face coverings are compulsory on public transport and yet many ignore it. What are the transport inspectors doing? Sitting on their hands? The inspectors should hand out free masks and if people refuse to wear one then they should asked to get off. But I have not been on a bus or tram in the lockdown yet.

They don’t have to wear one if they have asthma, copd or any other breathing conditions though so it’s hard to police if they say they do. Otherwise you just aren’t allowed on without one.

Behave how many inspectors are there at any given time on the numerous bus routes available?
Lucky if there is around 2 or less per hour ,no you set the rules and if a few want to break it there is fuck all you can do about it but tut when your on the same bus as them.

There are no inspectors. You don’t get a ticket now to avoid contamination 👍

I'll have to say no as there's only 2 choices, but if the circumstances dictate I must, then I'll comply.

To be honest, I had in my mind more the Manchester tram network rather than buses. I have not seen a bus inspector for many years, but there are plenty on the Metro tram system and operate in groups of 3 or 4.

Getting on public transport is a desperate choice if you have “asthma, copd or any other breathing conditions” given the raised risk.

If you live alone and have no other means of transport to collect essentials such as shopping, prescriptions etc then you don’t always have a choice. When there is little choice I try not to judge.

The same applies to be honest. I’m assuming the Manchester tram network is where you’ve observed your issues.
There was a lady coughing and barking mask free on the bus the other day. I can only assume she had an underlying issue that prevented her from wearing a mask, and was just greatful for the pair of us that I was able to wear one.

That is why I called it a “desperate” choice. Born out of desperation. I am not judging and we agree.

This is the government's expert advice:

The Tory Daily Mail published this:

March 12: Deputy chief medical officer Dr Jenny Harries: 'For the average member of the public walking down a street, it is not a good idea… in fact, you can actually trap the virus in the mask and start breathing it in.'

April 16: Chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty said: 'The evidence is weak, but the evidence of a small effect is there under certain circumstances.'

April 21: Revealed in meeting minutes a month later, Sage advised: 'On balance, there is enough evidence to support recommendation of community use of cloth face masks, for short periods in enclosed spaces, where social distancing is not possible.'

April 23: Dr Jenny Harries said there could be 'a very, very small potential beneficial effect in some enclosed environments'.

April 24: Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: 'On masks, as more information comes through, the science is constantly evolving and we always bear in mind that science and then take the decision. As of today, the government position is unchanged.'

April 30: Boris Johnson said: 'I do think that face coverings will be useful, both for epidemiological reasons, but also for giving people confidence that they can go back to work.'

May 20: Researchers in Hong Kong found face masks reduced infection by up to 75 per cent.

June 4: Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced that face coverings will be mandatory on public transport from June 15. He said: 'With more people using transport the evidence suggests wearing face coverings offers some - albeit limited - protection against the spread for the virus.'

June 5: Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed plans to make face coverings compulsory in hospitals for all staff, visitors and outpatients from June 15, but a furious NHS boss said the decision was made 'without any notice or consultation'. Meanwhile, Grant Shapps said masks would not be required in other settings such as shops because people spend little time in close proximity.

June 12: German study suggests making face masks compulsory could slow the spread of Covid-19 by as much as 40 per cent.

July 10: A government source said it was a 'fair assumption' that masks would become mandatory in shops and other indoor settings within a few weeks.

July 13: I trust people's sense on face masks - Gove

So Gove again, like Boris, is basically saying wear one - don't wear one. Upto you. Zero guidance and not taking the blame.

Simply put:
They were either grossly incompetent or lied to us from the start to ring fence supplies. I suspect it’s the latter. Medical masks were prioritised to frontline NHS who needed them the most, when what they should have been doing is telling us to wear a face covering until they can get the proper supplies upscaled, and instructing us on safety tips.

For info: face coverings offer low protection - up to 30% max. Medical masks offer high protection.

This is how it works in Singapore and I like it....But I hate wearing a mask!!!!

Mask is compulsory if you leave home.

When entering a restaurant, shop etc you have to scan your phone over a QR code which registers you in that place - when you leave you click check out On the app.

This is so track and trace can find you quickly if needed.

You can remove your mask once seated and your first order arrives - usually a tap water for speed!!!!

Stand up and you must wear a mask

We have a track and trace app that now works well on an iPhone - that works using blue tooth.

No system is perfect but it’s about as good as it gets.

It looks under control here for now with few cases in the community on a daily basis.

Borders are still effectively closed, if you leave and come back you will either be in government quarantine for 2 weeks or stay at home (that is checked) for two weeks depending on where you have been.

The UK is gov quarantine as the risk is to high - and rightly so!!!!

All travel outside Singapore is highly discouraged and made difficult to re-enter. Ie the gov will no longer pay for your treatment if you leave Singapore and bring it back - which again I thinks fair.

Maybe they should do the latter in the UK as well to discourage Covid tourists!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I'd like wearing one but would do if I was strictly advised to do so and would definitely wear one on public transport out of respect for fellow passengers.

Does anybody know if you have to wear a mask in the barbers ?

No offence seasideone but I am only interested in the fine barbers of the Fylde coast and I don't give a feck what they are doing in Singapore Sam's Stylists.

Some are some aren't the ones those that do usually sell you one for a quid if you haven't brought one with you.
My two local Turkish barbers have no PPE at all don't wear the visors which everyone does which I presume is in breach of the rules.

Thanks Pool, I thought it would be something like that.

I must pop along and get my barnet cut this week.

PS - Typical, you can never trust the Turks !!!!!!!! 😅

So now we have to wear a mask on a shop despite not needing to wear one for months when things were apparently at their worse.

They really haven’t got a clue what they’re doing or what the strategy is. Making it up as they go along and proving what a clueless bunch of jokers they are.

I blame the scientists, experts and advisors none of them can agree on anything you had one months ago saying you'd be better spending the money on a pint of beer than a face mask.
How politicians can make head n tail of their conflicting views is anyone's guess.
Case of too many cooks spoil the broth I'm afraid.

The decision has now been taken so we have to crack on like it or not but l don’t get why from 24 July? It should be now with the fine of £100 for not wearing from 24th, be interesting to see how the police are going to enforce this one!

It's hilarious isn't it. Dithered for months, finally make the decision, then wait 10 days. What a fcking shambles. A circus full of clowns.
