Mask?

This is a randomized clinical trial

"Question
Is the use of N95 respirators or medical masks more effective in preventing influenza infection among outpatient health care personnel in close contact with patients with suspected respiratory illness?"

"
Findings In this pragmatic, cluster randomized clinical trial involving 2862 health care personnel, there was no significant difference in the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza among health care personnel with the use of N95 respirators (8.2%) vs medical masks (7.2%).

Meaning As worn by health care personnel in this trial, use of N95 respirators, compared with medical masks, in the outpatient setting resulted in no significant difference in the rates of laboratory-confirmed influenza."
Both of those are high quality. The N95 masks have been hard to obtain / sold out. The same applies for surgical mask supplies. All you’ve said is that there’s no significant difference between two high protection masks. Now compare and contrast to other types of face coverings, although I will say if you can get a good quality 2-3 layer cotton & silk face covering, that level of protection is almost as good as surgical. And they can be re-used / washed.

This is very hard to understand. So an N95 is no more effective than a face covering yes?

Still doesn't say (I watched a large chunk of the video) if they were effective for Covid19?

Neither of the "experts" dared lay their hats on it. I guess a lot of epidemiologists are saying nothing these days. Can't blame them really. If you are wrong you are fcuked.

Both high protection, slightly different function. Surgical and N95 are much better than almost all face available coverings - I say available because the best ones are sold out.
Comparison:

As a beard wearer, using face masks isn't really practical, can we use face shields instead? Can't say I have seen any information regarding the use of face shields instead of using a mask or a scarf like covering.

I wear a thick snood with my beard all day at work. Took a few days to get used to, but now feels normal 👍 Shields are better than nothing, but big airflow around them.

The disposable mask doesn’t protect you but protects other people from you if you have symptoms. Boris thinks that it will bring confidence to the Retail sector but other than the supermarket I’ve no need or intention of going shopping in the “High Street”
