Matt Ingram

Well the Clampets would lose Pope should they go down today. They’d have money to take Grimmy off our hands for a massive discount compared to the sale they will get for Pope
They won’t have money as they have to pay back a massive loan which has been triggered on relegation…

Unless the fee is beyond £1m it would be madness to sell. Another season developing as he has and who knows where he could end up and what fee we could get.

Even at a mill, you'd have to sign someone else and if he's in demand then wages will be decent too.

I wonder how Grimmy feels himself?
From what I’ve heard the club want £1.5m which still seems a bit on the low side to me. The offer received wasn’t even 50% of that figure.

It's crucial that we have a top keeper and with NC's style of play, that keeper must be good with his feet.
We have such a keeper in Grimmy, so why even consider selling him?
Give the guy a decent contract and retain him as a key player in the spine of the team.
That all changes of course - if Grimmy is seeking a move ..... only he and the club who know the situation.

God that is low, I didn't think it would be mega bucks we'd ask for but I thought at least double that.

I presume we'd ask for a decent sell on %.

Rather retain the three keepers we have.
It's not as simple as that. If Grimmy won't sign a new contract, we risk losing him next year on a free. If he ultimately wants to move on then a realistic offer will need to be accepted. Reading between the lines it looks as though that will happen given the interest in Ingram - it's now just a case of waiting for that realistic offer. All a bit of a balancing act.

Let’s not forget Maxi is still a very good keeper and we all gnashed our teeth when he went off injured against T'Rovers when Moore came on and made an excellent save at the death! Grimmy is still learning the game and he will be missed if he leaves (but only at the right price), but it’s not the end of the world. If we do land the Hull keeper then that could be good business.

I’ve a strange feeling that Maxwell is the preferred number 1 which I can’t work out based on goalkeeping ability.

The way he came back in for the Luton home game after Grimshaw had been brilliant and the way he kept his place after DG came back from injury, despite a few fuck-ups.

I see people say he’s brilliant off the pitch? Who cares about that? We pick a team on what they do on the pitch, not because someone helps out in the Community. He’s a big character too and the Captain but he’s not as good a goalkeeper. It’s pretty clear to see this based on last season. DG made numerous match winning saves. Sheff Utd, Hull, Stoke etc. We had much better results with him in goal, I genuinely can’t remember any Maxwell made last season? That early part of the season he played, can anyone? He was great in Lge 1 but this is a higher level.

Grimshaw has the potential to be worth a couple of million with another half season in the Championship, unless we are going to get that now be daft not to start him as our number 1 for the first game of the season.

Ingram being touted as his replacement is the problem.

But Grimshaw is better now and like you say still learning, so will get even better.

I dont understand why Grimmy wasnt given his place back after recovering from concusion. He is clearly better than Maxwell. Maybe thats why he wants to go .
Does he want to go? We didn't know. If he does, I would think money would be a factor. And a bigger club that is either in the Premier League or is expected to be pushing for promotion from the Championship. I doubt Grimmy really had a problem with Maxwell getting some games at the end if the season. Grimshaw had a good run in the side and has achieved what he set out to do when he came here.

agree with that. As some-one who fiercely defended Maxwell coming back into the team after his first injury because at that time he was our no 1 keeper, I think as the season evolved Grimshaw got better and he was our best keeper. An injury to Grimshaw happened just as Maxwell was fit again so in a way Critch didn't have any decision to make as to his no 1 keeper for the rest of the season. So if they are both here at the start of the season it will be intersting who Critch starts as his no 1 keeper but from last season when I said it was Maxwell my view has changed and it should now be Grimshaw. But there's a bit to go before the start of the new season and a lot could happen in that time.

It was a really bad knock he took against Preston, he wasn't on the bench for the next 3 weeks, I can see why the manager might want to re-introduce him slowly and I'm sure the player understands that.

I think there's a bit more to it than that. He suffered a serious head injury which caused him to be missing for a good period of time. That's why Moore was on the bench. Grimshaw wasn't considered ready until the Derby game. So for two games why take any unnecessary risk.

It does look like Grimshaw is going to be in demand this summer. The club will need to decide whether to sell and at what price. We don't know the details of his contract. Could there be a release clause? My take is that we have people in charge who want the best for the club, and navigating the market and contracts is complex and we basically have to trust that they will do what's best for the club within each individual's set of circumstances, and within a long term strategy. We will attract players if we are seen to develop players and improve their opportunities, for one thing.

Agree 100%.

He didn't impress me in the play offs.
Ok. Only two games and I only saw one, didn't particularly notice. He was in a side he didn't know though, in play off conditions. Possibly not a great reflection of his ability? Dunno.

Critchley wants a proper sweeper keeper and that will have been a big part of why Grimshaw was signed - it's the Liverpool setup that Critchley is trying to emulate. Maxwell doesn't really have that in his locker but Grimshaw does which is part of why he is attracting attention now. I think that idf he goes we will sign a replacement, I'm afraid I can't see a long term future for Maxwell at BFC.

I think a lot is going to depend upon what Grimy wants, he supposedly turned down more money to come here in the first place, now he's no.1 and guaranteed first team football, why would he move elsewhere to be backup for someone else?

I think we'll get another season out of him at least.
