MCLF exclusive: NOT an interview with Critch

I really need to question my life priorities. I could have done so much with the last hour.

Instead, I didn't interview Neil Critchley.
It would possibly bring a different side of his character if he was asked those questions. I'd be interested in his responses, that's for sure.

I hadn't really thought about it in the middle of everyone arguing about the validity of the plan, the tactics, the players, the manager etc., but surely it would be good PR for critchley to do a longer form video interview with someone, could even be radio lancs if necessary as long as it wasn't chisnall snivelling away as the interviewer, to allow us to get to know him a bit better.

Like you say, there's no affinity with the man yet, just with the idea of what he might be and what we want him to be (and so far isn't actually being).

Let's get to know him, understand why he's doing what he is and why he so clearly believes in it. If that answer is simply "because it works for Liverpool", then we might need to look elsewhere pretty quickly!

I'm in the
"Critchley is an apprentice, so giving him a bit (lot) of slack, but still in the hoping he gets it right" Club
and part of his leaning process is to be able to deal with the media. This is probably new to him as well.
So he does need to man up a bit and show a bit of a harder side, if he has one, to his players and the rest of us.
He needs to get a bit more p1ssed off.
Good read as ever TD53. 👍

Yeah all seems a bit nice doesn't it

TBH Phil I'm not too happy with you agreeing with me. I'm not sure if it makes me feel nervous or proud like Critchley when he got another youngster through to the first team. 😉

Ha ha its fine
I said last night we could do with a bad cop in there somewhere

Could you imagine someone like Andy Morrison kicking water bottles about or shouting at players

An excellent read and some decent questions raised. Proper questions as it were. Can't your mate in tbe footie press pass you a brown bag containing Critch's e:mail addy so that you can bang him off a copy flagged up as awaiting response?

It seems a bit robotic is my take.

I'm not convinced we should need to threaten them with assault to play well. If we do, then why'd we sign them.

What I think is apparent is that they're following orders, possibly orders they don't wholly grasp and the two voices in there are saying the same thing.

I think it's apparent because we don't really get much insight. Just a few shiny clips of players going 'training is great' and Critch saying team x will be a tough challenge but we'll be prepared.

Again, it's two points that recur:

Experience in the team - setting examples. I read a book from a Newcastle kid talking about how when Keegan came in as a player, he just brought more out of everyone instantly by the standards he showed. By not needing a bollocking, by working so hard at everything he was beyond reproach. We've no one like that. I like Madine, but he ain't that player.

What insider said on my other thread. Has Critchley got a critical friend? Is Garrity up to questioning him or is he going 'yes boss' and enjoying the ride?

Who knows, we've even less idea who Garrity is!

I'm not pretending to interview Mike Garrity. I draw the line somewhere.

Ha - didn't think of that!

I love the way you can come at things for a different angle 👍

There is a very serious point, too. We haven't a Scooby who he is, what he wants, does he keep chickens?

The club needs to be much more pro active with its PR when we are in the stretch that we are. Maybe if we could share his vision, we could get behind him and be patient. No info comes across as lack of confidence.

Actually, an interview with the recruitment bod isn't a bad idea, either, what is the truth of who selects players to sign, and who has the final say? Tommy Johnson, Critch or Ben Mansford?

Cheers, but I'm not pretending to interview the entire club!

Mind you, I did an article imagining Fonz ringing someone's nan up so actually, I wouldn't rule it out.

I think it is an important point. I nearly wrote "tell us a joke, tell us a story, talk to us as people" but I thought it wasn't fair as you don't have to be a funny bloke to be a good manager.

I just want to be on his side. I'm not that demanding as a fan. I just want a connection with the club again. It's a hell of a long time since I felt that with a manager and I think so many of us want him to succeed but there's just a big vacuum and all that's in it is some really poor results.

I remember first hearing Dyche at Burnley doing a lengthy interview with someone on Lancs and thinking 'blimey, he's good!' but he was no one at that point - he talked for ages about this and that and I just felt a confidence in him.

If Critch is the coaching genius he's cracked on to be, I want to hear him talk about football! Not just bland description of the game I've just watched.

Can you imagine Andy Morrison getting a coaching job at Liverpool? ;)
It's mad when you look at the old Liverpool structure though. Ronnie Moran, Joe Fagan, Roy Evans... They just looked like arl fellas who sat round having a pint and a fag and playing dominos. To be fair, so did Paisley.

I really hope Critchley isn't Roy Evans.

Coach is stuck in that managing Under 23s supporting and cajoling players mindset and it shows in all his interviews. You need more tools in your managerial toolbox than that I’m afraid.
