MCLF: Match blog: 2-1 - Liverpool vs the Mighty

Another enjoyable write up, waiting for your blog thingy is reminiscent of waiting for ‘The Green‘ to arrive at the Newsagents after an away game in days of old, then tunning home to read the report, except now I don’t need to leave the sofa!

I used to stand on Ansdell bridge waiting for the van and usually was the one who grabbed the block of Greens from the van. Near the Lantern bakery.

Nor far away, I was competing to catch the Greens chucked from a van at the newsagents on Tuxford Road.

Another excellent write up.

Happy days. After an away win i used to devour every page of it, study all the league tables and results even the ‘stop press’ when we’d lost though it was a quick read through the report, then toss it in a corner of the living room whilst snarling at my younger brother who didn’t like footy!

My lad really likes coming to matches with me but doesn't seem arsed by the rest of football. I'm sure that's cos we don't get a paper and it's not all written down in the tables and scores to pour over. He hasn't got a clue who is in what division or owt whereas by his age, I knew all that.

There was something really good about that Saturday late paper or sunday morning one for those two pages in particular, with the whole football world explained on it.

Only one half was a proper match. The other was pissing about with subs.

Have a decent evening all.

The changes killed us, changing to players with much less to no understanding compared to the best 11 and so many changes too, it showed. Whilst Liverpool were great we gifted them some chances which we weren't 1st half.

It was a sloppy start to the half and Liverpool also had something to prove then also.

But I think it was 3-2 then we make 6 more changes. We have players not played for us before, not together (maybe 1 or 2 not fully fit yet) and so many changed. Basically the whole team from the first half with a Liverpool wanting to right the wrongs and they pretty much were all over the place.

I understand giving them all a chance and some aren't so far off the first team, but collectively they were nowhere near the same at our best 11.

We'd have been lucky to have beaten them with the same team out but after those changes it was a huge difference.

Thought this line spoke volumes ..

"We make more changes and Madine, Shaw, Howe, Feeney, Antwi and Thorniley join the action, leaving only Big Marv on the pitch from the starting 11. Not surprisingly, there ensues a spell where Pool simply can't get the ball away,"

You have to say that Madine, Feeney and Howe need to go and 3 decent loans to come in to avoid this being a regular season occurrence. The starting XI (and I'd say starting 14) are fine but we lack that bit of strength in depth for me. Feeney is never a good sub and am just not convinced by Madine!
