MCLF match blog: Morecambe vs the Mighty.

As always we seem to watch the same game apart from Ward who I've picked on today as being the most disappointing player albeit yet another player played out of position. (Connolly, Hamilton, Carey)

Oh, Ward didn't play especially well, I agree, the observation about his touch was more about his inherent attributes than how he played.

A really great, and enjoyable, read. And spot on observations from where I was standing. Appreciate having something as good as this to read when reflecting on a game. Roll on the next edition...

Like I said elsewhere he's better playing in a more forward role.

Too harsh.

What it says on the tin...
Yes I agree with all that except the fantasy Machine section, obviously! 🤣

I'd be getting Connolly into CD asap i think, with Husband. Leaves us short at right back til we sign someone, but we are also at risk on the other side where Championship teams will relish the space behind Garbutt, surely. It will all get sorted. Maybe James will wrench that spot off Garbutt. I actually thought Casey looked capable and like he might be ready sooner rather than later, but need to see him in a proper contest against Championship opposition.

James did ok in midfield, tidy, like you say. Ward is tidy too. They are water carriers. Dougall is a superior water carrier.

That front 4 doesn't work. They don't link up well. Demi is quick but not great. Same with CJ. He and Yates don't link up well. I foresee another period of early season sifting of options. TJJ and Lavery provide some. Carey was lost out left.

I think a three behind Yates or Lavery is what might suit us best. And the evidence so far, that might actually be Carey in the middle and Bowler and TJJ outside him. CJ and Demi are rapid and will be very useful in counter attacking situations. And I am guessing about TJJ's suitability to play wider. He may suit the middle role.

We were best last season when Yates and Simms played up front, and I think that style is much more the way to go than the Machine route. Have we got a Simms replacement yet? Maybe, maybe not. Need to see what TJJ can do, and maybe Lavery. But there is still time for CJ and Demi (hope he's ok) to grow into the attacking roles, a run of games together can make a huge difference. But we lacked guile, at least until Bowler came on. We need to find guile, and shooting boots, before next Saturday.

If you need any help with UEFA getting the Coastal Resorts Cup off the ground just shout up.

Obviously, after the regional stages and the Cup is won, it's on to play Monaco, Sorrento, etc etc.

Proper Champions League, not qualifying through 4th.

Just knock it to Gaz. We'll be reet. I jest. Sort of.

I don't think it's either/or. The reason I think wor Gaz will matter is no other forward player has anything like his experience. He knows he can mix it with Championship defenders and come out on top. Yates has never played at this level, Lavery is coming from NI, and the Cat Jr hasn't managed 20 games of senior football yet.

I know you don't like him, but along with Dougall he changed the dynamic of the side last year. He is, in my opinion, capable of similar again and honestly, I don't think Critch offered him a contract for sentimental reasons.

I hope you are right. I think he will do very little for us. I hope i'm wrong I really do. I understand what you are saying but I don't think GM will do it. He didn't do it much in League One, going back up the to Championship is a step too far, IMHO.

Top stuff @td53 - always amazes me how you get it on line so quickly! Do you make notes or is it all in your head?!

Cheers boss. I got into making notes when the games were on telly but at games where I'm actually there, I do it from memory. I prefer doing it from memory tbh.
