Mickey Walsh

Does Mickey still live in Portugal?
I remember reading about his collapse in Brazil. He said that fortunately both he and his wife spoke Portuguese, and that saved his life.
 
Yes he's still in Portugal, a frien of mine knows him

I played against him about 18 years back at Chiswick (Civil Service Vets v Gereard's Cross Vets) and he almmed one in from about 30 yards from nothing !
 
A great signing for us from Chorley.
We should have signed his Chorley mate Paul Mariner at the same time.

And mine 👍🏼 Remember my dad taking me to Wembley to see him play for The Republic of Ireland against us and before the game he came out of the tunnel and gave me a programme signed by both teams. Des McBain was our club secretary at the time and lived across the road from us on Farringdon Avenue in South Shore..... he organised it with Mickey for me 😀
 
I'll never forget when he stuck that one in against Sunderland. I was about 14, we were at the top of the unsegregated kop, about to head out and a mate said "turn round, we're going to score"! What a match that was 👍

I read an article after he had that stroke. He said that it was only because they both spoke good Portuguese
that they could relate to people around and then the Ambulance which came to pick him up, that they could communicate exactly what had happened.
He said that had they not spoke the language he would have died.
