Summerbee signed for Blackpool on Christmas Eve 1976. The transfer had been the Blackpool chairman's idea, NOT that of manager Allan Brown. Summerbee later admitted that he should not have joined the club. He made just three League appearances for the Seasiders

Anyone remember him? He missed a sitter in front of the old Kop.

I remember him. Got his autograph in my autograph book 😁

I remember my uncle saying to me, at his first game for us, that he thought Summerbee had retired years earlier. After seeing him he said he was overdue his pension. Well past it.

Who’s idea was it then?

Yep, Carlisle United I think .... remember that sitter. 6 yards out, middle of the goal and he put it wide. 2 more points that season and we would have been promoted ahead of Forest (who went out to win Division 1 the following season and then the European Cup the season after).

Me, bitter ?

In fairness Walsh missed a pen at the kop end, hit the post low down to the keepers left. That was Carlisle in front of 17006 if I remember right. Wood threw a late goal in his own net in a night game against?? to give them a late draw.

Those were the 2 points I saw that cost us promotion.

I can picture the scene. It's Xmas Eve, 1976 at Bloomfield Road, there is a light dusting of snow. Who is that in an anorak with an autograph book in his little hands huddled by the players entrance?
Why it's Wizaard. Christmas has come early for him as he walks home, now with the famous Mike Summerbee's autograph!

Just about.

I remember him and Willie Morgan, who at the time was on £750pw.

Both were well gone by then.

There was a story I can't quite recall about Summerbee having a fallout with one of the other players.
I remember being totally underwhelmed by both of them, jobs for the boys if memory serves me right. Mates of Ball.

I thought the penalty miss was at the South stand end of the ground as I was in the scratchers for that game 🤔 It's a long time ago so might be mistaken 🤣

Anyway given he was signed in January then shouldnt he have been a Winterbee? I bet @Wizaard took his bags from the Coliseum to the hotel he was staying at (smiles)

And Morgan stayed on into the 81/82 season to bleed the club even more.
Sure he was supposed to play for us , he chose golf on the day well past his best.😢🍊

Mickey Walsh only missed one pen against Charlton at the south end. Final score 2-2!

I'd need confirmation of that. I'm sure it was Walsh ve Carlisle. I can vividly recall it hitting the post. If not Walsh who was it?? @INOIT
As i previously said, I remember the missed penalty at home against Carlisle. It deffo hit the post, and am positive it was Micky Walsh who took it. I thought it was at the South stand end of the ground but its a long time ago so could be mistaken as to which end the penalty was taken at.

He was 34 and his legs had gone when he joined Blackpool, and looked slow compared to Ronson and Ainscow in midfield.

Kevin Sheedy was a very similar signing and about the same age someone that had played at the very highest level but when they arrived at

Blackpool they were well past there best and had lost their pace.
