Missing man at sea

Yesterday we had a police helicopter buzzing around Cleveleys. My wife says that a European man was lost in the sea at Rossall. Anybody know owt?

We heard it too, apparently body found on beach, think it’s maybe just beyond Rossall. Don’t know the circumstances, but very sad.

He was messing about in the sea with his partner I think and got into difficulties very suddenly. It was at Rossall Point, and it can be very dangerous there at high tide with very strong undercurrents. They found him early on this morning.

Inland people somehow think the sea will show mercy. Had some friends last year from an inland town ask if I wanted to join them on a walk to those islands off the Wirral.

I checked the tide times and told them they would need to set off a few hours earlier as the tide would be coming in when they were planning to head off out to sea. They hadn't even thought of tides or checking tide times.

Similar to people swimming in reservoirs.

Red hot days (as we’re having right now) nothing looks more inviting.

Yet swim just a few yards out from the bank the water temperature drops like a stone due to the very deep water and catches people out, they soon go into shock and start drowning.

In the last 24 hours people have not only drowned off the Fylde coast but also in the Albert dock in Liverpool and on the River Eden in Cumbria.

Swimming in such waters takes no prisoners.

I don’t know whether this guy was cut off, but it happens often, not always with people drowning, but they have. Isn’t it time warning signs were put up to tell people about the dangers of the incoming tide.
