MK Dons v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 09.03.21

Odd half. First 20 mins was utter garbage. But we grew into it and had the better of the last 20 without creating a great deal.
The pressing improved, which led to MK making an error.
If ever there was a team to play a high press against its MK Dons, they overplay constantly, and take some big risks in doing so.
 
We have seen in the last few games how our lack of control of the ball cost us against Crewe and Wimbledon.

Lucky not to be behind today early on but somehow got a goal from their poor play and a bit of pressing.

Then dons looked shaky and we actually did a few decent passes.

We really must pass it better at times as you cant get away with it all the time.
 
Solid away performance so far against a limited but well schooled in keeping possession side.

It's easy to see why Critch has gone with bodies in midfield, and so far it seems to be working when we're able to close them down, forcing them in to making mistakes. Fantastically taken goal by Jerry.

I can however see us playing deeper and deeper as the 2nd half goes on, where we all know what the outcome to that will be.
 
Full defense for second half. Why not hook Yates at about 60 mins, replace him and Emberton with 2 defenders. Keep Virtue on though . Good idea
 
We started poorly but grew into the game and took our one good chance brilliantly. From that point on we looked much better and you could see their confidence drop. The pitch is a shocker so not a night for faffing about at the back, keep things organised and press the high up the pitch, a 2nd goal for us would really knock the stuffing out of them.
 
Yates has never stopped pressing he can't surely last the full match. Probably bring Simms on for him last 20.
 
Groundhog game? Big question marks again about team selection and started awfully, then went one up finished the half on top and BUT...
We have overloaded the midfield (positive move), Garbutt is back in the team (positive move) and Kai Kai does seems to have more of a free role with a license to roam (another positive move). And it was pressing in the middle of the park that led to our goal.
Can we see this one out?
 
The press is the key. They are shocking at the back, put them under pressure FFS! We did at least improve in the last 20 mins. Let's see what El Critch conjures up for the next 45. Hopefully some attacking intent.
 
I hope we bring on CJ when the game gets stretched and Dougall to give him the ball. If we sit back and defend we're knackered.

Slow motion football.

The only time they look dangerous is when the right wing-back gets it and the only time we look dangerous is when they faff around at the back. I would keep it the same for 15 then see where we are. I'd like to see CJ have a run at Lewington at some point though.
 
Dean Lexington, age 36, wish we had him in our team. Very composed on the ball and rarely wastes a pass.
 
Well we came into it in the last 15, we stand off way too much and are conservative in our approach. Didn't want half time so i hope we come out in the same fashion second half.
 
If Critch has been told that he's got next season then why he was not started with an attacking 11 ? I think he's under pressure from upstairs and trying not to lose this game.
 
Poor game this especially the first half hr, slight improvement after that, this is a poor mk team ,we need to pressure them more as they are awfull at the back ,maybe move ward into centre and bring simms and cj on and utilise their pace.

Yeah when I have moaned about possession there is a difference. We need to take better care of the ball, it gives them the ball less, means we have more attacks and more chances.

But yeah mk pass it very well at times but sure do over play and take far too long.

I dont want us to be like that, we have to mix it up, but must still be much better on tha ball. Were far too poor at times.
 
Getting much better now. This is a team there for the taking, just need to keep better possession.
