Mortensen mural update.

Love these! Well done Rob.

It's funny, I was talking to my kids about world great footballers on the way to the ground a few weeks ago, we were talking about who the best footballer ever was, we talked about Pele among others and I mentioned that Stan Matthews was in the conversation. My son doubted that a Blackpool player could have been as good as Pele or Maradona - then as we went through the turnstyle there was the quote on the wall from Pele talking about Matthews, saying "The man who taught us the way football should be played". He was pretty wowed! :)

Aware that not everyone does social media, and that those in the South or West don’t get the opportunity to see the work. So for those interested….

Great work. The only problem is idiots who stand with their backs against the wall and put one foot up against it. Leaves nasty foot marks on it, which I've already seen on the other artwork you've done. Not sure what we can do about this.

Your quite good arnt you ! Haha
Brilliant work ,brings a tear to my eye,to see one of our own bringing dank bland wall to life with so much colour and our past heroes

Not only a great footballer. but a nice human being.
I had a part-time job (evenings & weekends) in the amusement arcade which was the old Central Station.
There was a Bingo hall where the platforms used to be. Jean Mortenson worked in the box office.
Stan came in regularly so we got to know him.
No edge on Stan and he always had a joke to tell and was just a great guy.

His wife Jean was bit high maintenance in the shops according to my mother who was an outfitter at Edwalds in Talbot Square where she used to shop regularly .

There must be at least sixty other candidates before Brett sadly.

I can't think of a bigger modern legend. 2 promotions, scoring winners or clinchers in both play off finals, whilst earning the club a then record fee in between.

Played and scored for us in at the top 4 levels.

Who has done more on our modern history?

He didn't play at the top level for us or was a bit part player in the EPL. How does he compare in stature to players like Alan Ball, Tony Green
Jimmy Hampson, Dave Durie (probably the best Sandgroan player to represent Blackpool at the top level) Harry Johnston, Ray Charnley?

It would be a massive drop off from the two Stan's and Jimmy Armfield.

My top three would be
Alan Ball
Jimmy Hampson
Harry Johnston

Are you serious? Played and scored (Spurs at home) meaning he scored in all 4 divisions for the club.

Think your words are hugely disrespectful to Brett tbh, has had a HUGE impact on the modern history of the club, more so than some you've mentioned.
Just because he doesn't come from the glory era you're generally picking players from doesn't mean he's any less deserving.

I find it hard to believe that in any given era there are many who've done more than score the winner in 2 play off finals and scored in all 4 divisions for the club at a rate of roughly a goal every 2.5 games.

Charlie Adam with his arms stretched out celebrating the free kick in the play off final ( similar to the picture on the wall in the Armfield club) iconic moment
