I thought the Spices were quite good.Spice Girls
No one said they weren’t famous or popular just that they were and are massively overrated.Yes The Beatles, I have to agree. I mean, apart from being the biggest selling recording artists ever, having the most No. 1s ever, cracking open the American market for British artists, being the only recording act ever to have the top 5 places in the Billboard top 100 chart, being the only act to have more than 3 Christmas No. 1s in the UK (4), being the only band in which every member has had a solo US No. 1 and which has had 3 members achieve a UK solo No. 1, being responsible for reinventing the way that recording studios are used, introducing the concept of holding concerts in sports stadiums (and rooftops), being the first artists to turn an LP into a distinct concept - as opposed to simply a collection of songs, being the only artists to date to have a number 1 single three times with the same song (I stand to be corrected on this one), and to have written and recorded the song most covered by other recording artists (apart from Happy Birthday) in the world.
Apart from that - yeah, crap.
Yeah, I really don't like Queen.Queen. Clichéd singalonga pomp rock.
Well their mass popularity suggests that the majority of music-lovers don't think they are overrated. You might but then good taste isn't compulsory. No one said they weren’t famous or popular just that they were and are massively overrated.
You don't have to be original to be good. As long as those debts are recognised then, fair play. There are quite a few bands I don't like but I can understand why other people do like them. However I have got to say Oasis are hugely derivative, ripping off tunes and riffs from other bands.
Correct Thief, I am nothing like an old bloke perving over young girls.Nothing worse than an old bloke perving over young girls.
BFC X3. Ban them now!!!!Reported for criticising Aqua.
They started well but by the early 70s they'd jumped the shark and have done nothing for nigh on 50 years while continuing to coin it in.XTC are the most underrated not overrated !
The Police
U2
Queen
Any Prog Rock, ie Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
I think Wiz is winding us up with The Stones, surely.
I think it gets boring if you rip the same thing off repeatedly. If you're clever with, it is very interesting. You don't have to be original to be good. As long as those debts are recognised then, fair play.
Does ANYONE rate the Corrs though? I'd imagine even the Corrs don't rate the Corrs by now.The Corrs can be added to the list
Here's a thing. I've nver 'got' the Stones, but oddly, I really like Exile on Main St.... but only that record. They started well but by the early 70s they'd jumped the shark and have done nothing for nigh on 50 years while continuing to coin it in.
That's me with Van Morrison. Astral Weeks superb, anything else, not that fussed. Here's a thing. I've nver 'got' the Stones, but oddly, I really like Exile on Main St.... but only that record.
That's a strange thing.
I can't think of any other band where I only like one record, but *really* like it, and have made little headway with any others...
That’s right! That’s right! That’s right! That’s right!
Saw Simple Minds in 1991 And they were good but seen them 3/4 since and they’ve been terrible, couldn’t hear a word they sang and thought it might have been the venue but it wasn’t!Saw simple minds at MEN
Very disappointing
Saw them supporting the Dead Kennedys (ace ) along with a band call Millions of Dead Cops.Peter and the test tube babies.
Not having this td. The Bends is a perfect album - every song a work of artI think it's about a band who get a lot of critical praise and 10/10 reviews but don't seem that special on closer examination. They don't need to be *bad*, it's just they don't seem to justify the fawning. That's why I went for Radiohead - I actually really like some radiohead stuff and I *really* like the latest Thom Yorke album but when I hear a whole Radiohead record, I just don't get what is so special about it in comparison to similar stuff. It just seems I'm missing the point of most of the tracks somewhere.
I feel similar about say, REM - all their records seem to be 2 killer tracks and 9 fillers yet I can name records by similar bands that are all killer no filler, that have nothing like the critical acclaim or sales.
I think I'm probably doing Queen a disservice. I really actually dislike some of their stuff, but I kind of get why they're rated for what they are.
Along the same lines of I can understand why others like them, Queen! There are quite a few bands I don't like but I can understand why other people do like them. However I have got to say Oasis are hugely derivative, ripping off tunes and riffs from other bands.
But OK Computer is one of the finest albums ever made.I think it's about a band who get a lot of critical praise and 10/10 reviews but don't seem that special on closer examination. Right Allmodcons. I'm definitely having them, but Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds? Majestic!I can't believe I forgot UB40.... red, red whine.
Underrated for the quality melodies and lyrics. It’s noticeable that no ones had a go at ABBA.
Myself included.
Is that Sam Smith the blonde woman or the more recent incarnationCan we have Sam Smith - always got a band in the background.
More drivel
