New Left Back?

Anyone think we’ll bring one in this week? Hubby out for a while and Garbutt seems to be made of cotton wool!

Its all about balance for me the first few games of the season we struggled as we were playing people out of position one we had players playing where there supposed to play we improved massively so if that means bringing someone in who critch thinks can do a job then im all for it.

We have two players already under contract who have played left back quite a bit in their respective careers, Jordan Thornilly and Daniel Gretarsson. One out on loan and the other seemingly deemed surplus to requirements, surely at least one of those will now be needed?

That fact as you say one is out on loan and the other not even warming the bench tells you all you need to know about what Critchley must think about them.

Sterling, Gabriel, Grettarsson can play there - it's centre mid we need to sort. But no panicky signing - gotta be quality. Like Brannagan there must be ysome quality young players in L1 & 2 lookiing to progress. Not a fan of an established C player viewing BFC as a backward career move. Where are the new Charlie Adams and David Vaughans?

Kevin Stewart will make a big difference if he is allowed to muddy his boots. Sixty five minutes at Fulham as he is the steady head we need to link play.

We do! Garbutt too injury-prone, and Husband not good enough imo. No pace, never contributes offensivly, and stamina at a very poor level. He is good in the air, good positioning and has a strong body, but this is the championship - we can easily get better.

Husband has been one of our most consistent players this season and for me undoubted championship quality.

He has done a great job in central defence, but you can’t deny he has a lot of weaknesses out left. On the ball he is shite, his passing is awful! He must be maybe the slowest player in our squad, forcing him to compensate with holding and fussing. I was gobsmacked to see him completely empty after a forward run recently. Speaking of forward, he never contributes, which I assume Chritch expects from his sidebacks, having seen Robertson and Trent at Liverpool. Garbutt at least has very good crosses. I know this is harsh on Husband, but in modern football, you need wingbacks going up and down, with some creativity

I totally disagree with every word of this crap you have posted , but I respect it’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it .

Are you taking the piss trying to compare Husband and Robertson arguably on one of the best left backs in world football and just to add Liverpool don't play 4-4-2.
Husband has been brilliant this season whatever position the kind of guy like Keogh to term a phrase next to you in the trenches the way he took out that nobber in the second half was one of the highlights of the season.

You disagree with the passing? The pace? The stamina? The offensive contribution? Please be more specific..

So far this season Hubby has proved himself to be up to standard in the Championship. I’ve been quietly impressed, tbh. We might be able to find better, but it’s not a priority imo

All of it yes.
I’m willing to put quite a large amount of money that he is one of, if not the slowest of all our players. If you rate him as quick, we really have different opinions on that. I can’t make you change that opinion. His stamina was there for all to see in the dying minutes vs Hull, where he went down in the far west corner, and was completely empty.

thought Sterling had a great game at right back yesterday and did well when switching to left back. More than happy for him to keep his place there for next game. Is Reece James injured and if so how long is he likely to be out for?

We can put Garbutt in Stewart's camp and simply concede we are never gonna get enough games out of them.

Garbutt couldn't even get a full 90 in before going off injured, it's a shame as they're both good players but we simply can't rely on them as they're far too injury prone.

Hes quick enough and as quick as our other LB options. He works harder than pretty much anyone else in the side.

We will have to agree to disagree cos we are miles apart.

According to Madine on sofa talk a few weeks ago, hubby is one of the quickest players in the squad, and to be fair, I haven't seen him beaten for pace very often.

Can I ask folks, is everyone only allowed one absence now before they're classed as "injury prone"?

Felt really sorry for Garbs yesterday. Having lost his place and waited 2-3 months to get back in, he gets cleaned out on the touchline and landed badly on the hard surface in front of the benches.

Saw he had an ice pack on it after the game, so maybe it just swelled up on him. Haven't seen any report on it today.

But same as Gretarsson, having to come off for freak whacks doesn't mean you're prone to getting injured.

Haven't seen too much of Thorniley - but what I did see was totally forgetable, nice fella no doubt, but not good enough IMHO. Let him go.

I agree his passing isn't the best and he's not the quickest... I do think you have been overly critical on these flaws though to be fair. Everyone has weaknesses to their game and what he lacks for in an offensive area, he more than makes up for with his defending.

One thing is for sure, we look a lot more more solid with his name in the teamsheet, regardless of position.

I spoke higly of him as CB. Strong, good positioning, good in the air, decent tackles/blocks. But he is just not my kind og left back, which apparently one or two got insulted by..

Bergen, I’m not insulted by what you’ve posted, its just that in my opinion you are talking bollox , but as I said , we are all entitled to an opinion !

In a squad of 18+ we need players like Connolly & Husband superb attitudes & all round good pros. Over a 46 game season
they are invaluable, the Manager knows this but some people on here cant see it !

Saw a chap play well at left back this weekend who could do a job for us. Sterling, I think he's called.
Regardless, we're still three full backs down at the moment. A further injury to Gabriel or Sterling would put us in trouble. Also, not to say that there isn't the potential for him to be a fantastic left back, but we have only seen him there for 30 minutes. He also isn't our player and could be recalled, especially with the injuries Chelsea have at the moment.

Someone on here has posted that it's too late now for Chelsea to recall. But yes, you are correct. I was partly being a clever dick but still, Sterling did the job very well and I'd be more than happy to see both him and Gabriel start at Fulham.

Sterling Vs Keogh, Garbutt, Stewart, Dougall, Ward, Robson, Virtue or Madine in a footrace, and Sterling wins every time. Come on don't be silly, I'd bet my life on him to beat Madine in a footrace.
