New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

Finished 5 episodes of Dept Q last night. Definitely a bit different. Acting is good.

Didn’t realise until after a quick Google that the lead character is played by the guy who played Lord Snowdon in the Crown, and was in Downton Abbey and many other films and TV stuff.

Glad I’ve stuck with it so thanks for recommendation guys.

Now this is excellent. I’m not one to get sucked into woke programs, be they championing sexuality, race, gender, etc, and I wondered if this would be too dark for me.
It should be dark, it has an element of grooming in there, and if you were a rent boy could trigger you. But the main character is confident, charismatic and bright, and graps onto his power well. And he deals with the shit show that dictates his younger years, it’s based on a true story.
Great acting, ace humour, and has started a new mantra in my house when any of us go out
‘don’t get too drunk, don’t lose your phone, and don’t get bummed without a condom!’
Fabulous tv, hope to see more of this new lead actor.

Yep, I'm 2 in and gripped. Portugal v Spain or 2 more of Dept Q. Mmmmmmm

Poker Face ..anyone watching? it recommend it ?

Yep, recommended.
A modern day Columbo where first you see the crime and then the lead (who can always tell when someone is lying) solving it.
Excellent lead, loads of guest stars and a healthy comedic streak.
An easy and entertaining watch.

Excellent last episode of Race across the World - no spoilers but the two who won were my least favourites!
Well worth watching - although the first series was still the best for me.
Surely a lot of this is rehearsed and pre-organised with each couple selected a different route by the BBC.
The winning couple could have won it with hours to spare as there was a connecting train!
Obviously the delay resulted in a nail biting finish.

The girls ended up at a lodging and then a Wedding invite. Surely this was all laid on.
Of course there are the film crews too.

Still a decent watch though.

mmmm... not sure they are told which way or route to take and clearly all the work they do is pre-lined up before hand. But what amused me last night is where the sign in book was placed. It was in a massive place with only one access point and no-one else around. So why were three of the pairs running across the open grass to get to the book. They can clearly see that there was no-one else about so absolutely no need to run at all. It was the final leg so it wasn't a case of every minute counted.

For fans of John Wick, I can recommend the spin-off film Ballerina.
Ana de Armas absolutely nails the role.
Any film with a flamethrower 🔥 battle gets a 👍 from me.

Although I think my favourite scene was when she was fighting a chef with a selection of dinner plates.

Just finished Mobland. Loved it

Had a little background humour but was quite gritty.

Main characters were really good and Helen Mirren playing a psychopathic granny was brilliant.
Enjoyed it but felt that Mirren and Brosnan's characters became completely OTT in the final couple of episodes, with some serious over-acting from both.

Just started the Agency with Fassbender and enjoying it.

As an aside, the Missus and I watched Gladiator 2 the other night.
What a load of tosh, RS has completely lost the plot. The naval battle scene in the coliseum with numerous sharks darting around was quite frankly, beyond ridiculous.

Some really good performances other than brosnan who has stolen a living as an actor he is terrible and just don't know how he gets roles

Shifty an Adam Curtis documentary on bbc iplayer given the demographic on here it should be interesting to most.
My view apart from music post war Britain is weirdly amusing but often very shit!

Watching The Killing on Disney. American cop murder type thriller series, 2010 think it started but got great reviews and I’m enjoying it 12 episodes in m.
4 seasons in total so lots to go at.
An easy watch.

Just finished watching Happy Valley a little late to the party I know. It gripped us from the start. No idea why we didn’t watch it sooner.

Exactly what I said to Glad the other night I’m sure a lot of this is pre planned.
A programme just of the making of RATW would be interesting similar to life on earth

Just finished The Agency; very good.

Brilliant last episode wrapping everything up and setting the scene for 2nd series!

The only bit that I just couldn't accept concerned the maverick Russian in charge of Valhalla and his boots! 🤔

As someone mentioned they are running the final few hundred yards as though Keely Hodgkinson and Mo Farrah were in pursuit! There is nobody behind them!
I am sure the organisers check each route to see if it is possible and then tell each pair which route with stopovers.
They had to fly into Nepal as it was not possible by land fir example.
Of course the competitors will need a degree of skills to achieve thier destinations.
The winning couple could have won more comfortably as there was an overnight connecting train.
Instead they took the bus the following morning making it a closer finish.

I’m watching Suspicion on ITVX, anyone else ?
An apple original, all 8 episodes on ITVX. Uma Thurman stars, albeit briefly ! 3 episodes in. Good acting, good production, plot is taking it’s time to unravel. Set in London, Oxford and New York, but mainly London. Thriller of a sort.
Update, finished all 8 episodes as I’d invested too much time in it by the time I realised it was crap. Ended up being about climate change, with a very long and boring drawn out plot line. Shame on you Uma, you can pick better projects than this rubbish.

Mix Tape - new 4 part series. On dodgy (first 2 episodes) and due to be on iPlayer later this year.

Good first couple of episodes - great 80's soundtrack.

Gets a bit dark but worth sticking with.👍

We had season 3 of Tehran in the bank to watch.
Apparantly they had to change the ending as it was too near reality.
Excellent Apple series, mossad female agent ou to stop Irans nuclear capacity.
