New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

Started watching game of thrones again, went travelling around Morocco a few weeks ago and apart from Marrakech etc wanted to to a go a small fishing town called Essaouira where part of it was filmed,it was in the 3rd episode and was called Astapor where she recruited the slave army, went in the castle and on the ramparts whilst googling and taking screenshots from the series then standing in the same place and taking photos
Bit sad but I’m not one of those geeks re game of thrones just loved it
Brilliant town and if you like seafood it’s amazing as it’s all straight of the boat, if you fancy trying different seafood then have some sea urchin but don’t go for the small ones it’s pointless
Also visited ouarzazate where some of it was filmed including gladiator and one of my favourite films from quite a few years ago “the man who would be king” Michael cane & Sean connery

Started ‘The Girlfriend’ on Prime last night. Almost turned it off after half an hour but glad I stuck with it and ended up watching 3 episodes.

Once you realise you get the same story from two different viewpoints - the mother and the girlfriend - it takes on a whole different light.

I’m on episode 3. Not sure how to rate it really, but will stick it out so I must rate it a bit 🧐

Taskmaster.
The new lineup of contestants is promising, including the two I hadn't heard of.
Ten weeks of ingenuity, embarrassing failures and chaos.

Films: Civil War (think it was Sky) - quite prescient given the state of the US at the moment. Starts off well but for me it could have developed into a better film. Interesting in that it’s more of a reportage on embedded press photographers than a large scale war film.

On a similar theme, i tried the Oscar winning documentary 20 Days In Mariupol. All i can say is treat with caution. Rented the stream on Prime (i think) and only got through 30 minutes. It rips your heart out. Filmed by the only press team to stay in the city as the Russians approached and invaded.

Great to see the powerful Adolescence picking up 6 Emmys, for best series, directing and writing, plus acting prizes for 15yo Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty (the child psychologist in the third episode).

Thoroughly well deserved.

Just got a look at a new horror/thriller by the people who did Barbarian, which was great. Film called Weapons about a whole classroom of school kids vanishing. Looks like it could be worth a watch, good actors in it, particularly Julia Garner and James Brolin. Might get it off Amazon or Apple this weekend.

6/10. Good premise but lost interest after an hour or so.

Struggled with all the Kray films solely because the
Reggie in real life I knew was this tiny vegetarian doddery old bloke and Ronnie looked zombied out of his mind when I met him.
Iconic villains and rumoured they were run out of Blackpool by Mixie Walsh.

You look at society nowadays and I dont think anyone could get to the level of influence they had over London.
Here's a true story about Reg. He was in the gym and a young black kid we had tried to fcuk him off the weights so he could move on to them.
Bare in mind its 30yrs ago, this kid had no idea who Reg was, even when other cons pointed it out to him.
No respect, even amongst theives.

Finished watching the final series 4 of Resident Alien and I’ve got to say, I’ll miss watching the lead actor and quite a few of the supporting cast.
It will be like not seeing a good friend again.
Cracking series and wrapped things up nicely.

Me and my lad loved this Hertford. Not a run of the mill horror.

Just watched the last episode of Alien Earth Season 1. As a big fan of the Alien films, I've been pleasantly surprised at how much I've enjoyed the series. I was expecting it to be a rubbish cash in. Looking forward to season 2 and glad that Ade Edmondson's character survived.

Watched 28 Years Later yesterday and thought it was OK-ish. The last two minutes which set up the next film were extraordinarily bad though. I have no idea what Danny Boyle and Alex Garland were thinking. You have to see it to believe it. There's no way I'll be watching the next film when it's released.

The Hack starts tonight on ITV. It's being billed as this year's equivalent of Mr Bates vs The Post Office. It's a seven-part drama based on the phone-hacking scandal. Stellar case including David Tennant, Robert Carlyle, Toby Jones, Katherine Kelly et al.

It's on for the next few weeks but all episodes have been released straight away for streaming on ITVX / Sky.

Got 3 more episodes to go and I’ve been pleasantly surprised too, really well done, some great acting and some scary aliens, much better than I rhought it would be

How up it's own arse was this show - gave it 30 mins and found it nauseatingly awful.

Don't know if it's already been mentioned but I've just finished watching the mini series The Offer.
It's been out for a couple of years now but I've just picked up on it.
It chronicles the making of the Godfather. All the actors are brilliant especially the young Pachino and Brando.
Well worth a watch for fans of gangster movies, with The Godfather being the best of the bunch.

I got told by a former employee of the Pye wrestlers that some gangsters from London came into their club and asked for protection money.
Apparently, they broke their legs and put them on the train back to London. I then read about it again when the Krays film came out in the 80s
in the Gazette. Apparently, they just picked their club at random, not realising the Pye family's fighting prowess.

Watched three episodes of the Hack. Very strangely put together, but it feels like quite an important watch so I have stuck with it, and slowly getting used to it.
Also Overthrow, only seen two, but so far pretty good with some decent acting (if a bit OTT at times).

A jellnof a lot of Yank TV kicks back in this month.
Here's the returning / new series for this month.
High Potential has already begun👍
New series Boston Blue the Bluebloods spin off starts on 17th.

Just finishing series 2 of Goliath (Billy Bob Thornton) which someone put up on here a while back. Really enjoying it. One of those shows you could just keep watching for too long.

Not watched many films lately although I just finished one called Renegades on Amazon. It was really good and nothing like what I thought it would be.

Movies / series to line up next?
Stranger Things, with finale due soon.

Chernobyl is a good watch recently got round to that one if you like history.

This documentary below is absolutely batshit crazy if you want a true crime one.

On ITV got round to watching the hack don’t think was worth the hype and I say that as a massive Robert Carlyle fan. Cold Water is definitely worth a watch👍 This month for the very first time I will be tuning into Hollyoaks as they are doing a crossover with Brookside. Bobby & Sheila Grant and Billy Corkhill will be making a return to the close.
