New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

Just finished the last 2 parts of Welcome to Derry. Think they handled the connection to other Stephen King stories quite well, e.g. The Shining, Doctor Sleep, Shawshank & The Mist. Also links into the first of the films from 2017. Nicely explains why series 2 & 3 will be going back in time. Makes a change to get a satisfying series finale. Fans of Stranger Things will probably enjoy it.

To me it’s as cutting as the original once was and probably why Canal or should I say C…..Anal has had it removed from YouTube.

The Xmas special Now compilation album is genius!!!!
Absolutely, I don't know if its been mentioned before, but I believe 'The Pub Landlord", Al Murray has a significant input.

One of my favourite sketches is the Meghan and Taylor Swift/Micro Wave one.

I really like Farage as Del Boy 👍 and the way they have done JD Vance is brilliant.

Poor Starmer in ‘I’m a nonentity - get me out of here’ 🤣🤣

…and Pads is very very funny!!!!

Wow just tried revenge club and turned off after 15 mins. Its terrible some people will watch any tripe .Had some good recommendations on here but some absolute pony like this as well .It's pathetic

Very lightweight but a nice 4 part Christmas comedy is Netflixs' Man vs Baby with Rowan Atkinson, always good to have some Christmas stuff to watch.

The new Knives out film is supposed to be the best yet too.
Watched Man vs Baby last night. Really good.

Man vs Bee is the first series and runs to 9 episodes, so that's tonight and maybe tomorrow sorted.

Anyone who enjoys Man vs. Baby really should watch the Jonny English films, even if to see Natalie Umbrulia (sp), she of the song Torn fame.

Edit Man v Bee wasn't as good.

Watched the first part of Lockerbie the search for truth last night. Based on fact, when the plane was brought down on the town by a bomb on board.

I remember quite well it happening, but this first part was at times rather gruesome simply on seeing the effects it had on those who witnessed it or were involved in the clear up and investigation.

If the rest of the series is as good it will be great.

Just been to see Fackham Hall at the cinema. It is a brilliant British comedy co-written by Jimmy Carr. A bit of a piss take on Downton Abbey. Full of innuendos and typical British humor. Not a film that anyone not British would appreciate but well worth watching at least once. Highly recommended.

Strangers Things S5 Ep 5-7 were decent enough, bar the will coming out speech - just the finale on NYD. Hope they finish on a high, it's been a generally decent series.

Just watched an easy watch film on apple / alternative - Eternity. Decent enough.

‘Say Nothing’ Channel 4.
A dramatisation of the internal workings of the IRA, starting when Gerry Adams was a young man. It’s brutally excellent…

Agreed. Not easy to watch at times, but I think it is an important and landmark series that has slipped through a little bit under the radar so far.
It is very catholic centric, but I guess that is fairly inevitable given the source material.
It should certainly put to bed any doubts about Gerry Adam’s involvement in the IRA.

PS Tresspasses on Channel 4 is another very good, but very different, series about the troubles-set in the 70’s.

I did a bit of research and the book it’s based on is considered to be pretty much ‘bang on the mark’ by those in the know. It’s very well acted and the script is humorous at times which helps to lighten the subject..

I’ve already recorded Tresspasses, thanks but not seen it yet. Just making my way through a load of things! I’m ruthlessly selective and can quickly tell if it’s a ‘keeper’ or to be deleted!

Couple of newish films I can recommend - Bugonia (Jesse Plemons, Emma Stone) 8/10 and Americana (Sydney Sweeney) 7/10. Also really enjoying Tulsa King (Stallone) bit corny but very watchable

Yes I’d heard that about Say Nothing. I think you will get through Tresspasses no problem.

Now finished watching Lockerbie, a very interesting six parts which shows how each country acted towards the disaster.

Now watching 'Titanic Sinks Tonight'.

Well worth watching which shows the complete complacency of the Captain and his subordinates, the lack of information, the difference in people then and now and the lack of planning from the very start with too few lifeboats being one of them.

I would thoroughly recommend it, Four parts.

Enjoying The Essex Serpent (Apple TV) with Tom Hiddlestone and Claire Danes. Based on a best selling book that was a word of mouth bestseller a few years ago.

Waiting for the Out. Bbc iplayer, all 6 eps dropped.
Finished episode 1, it’s definately one for me. Good acting, thought provoking script/plot, at times. Believable drama set in and out of a prison and looks likely to continue having a few different stories running through it at the same time 👍

Ooh, thanks, I hadn’t spotted this one, the reviews look very good! I’ve downloaded the first episode to add to my long list!

I don’t know if you ever watched The Responder on BBC about 4 years.
The main character in this (Josh Finan) was also in The Responder, and my God he waa superb. The characters he plays are night and day, and he portays them superbly. Got to be an award winning actor in years to come, or sooner.

Just finishing series 2 of Goliath (Billy Bob Thornton) which someone put up on here a while back. Really enjoying it. One of those shows you could just keep watching for too long.

Not watched many films lately although I just finished one called Renegades on Amazon. It was really good and nothing like what I thought it would be.

Movies / series to line up next?
Nothing as I don’t have telly - there’s nowt worth watching

Oh yes, I loved The Responder (I remember recommending it to my Aussie friends because they enjoyed Blue Lights so much (and who in their right minds wouldn’t!)
I’ve just googled Josh Finan and he also plays Gerry Adams in the IRA drama, ‘Say Nothing’ which I’m currently watching…I agree, he’s very very good…

This might have been mentioned previously but have just finished 'Down Cemetery Road' on Apple. It stars Emma Thompson and is an excellent Crime drama, quirky, dark at times and funny.
Currently part way through ' Runaway ' on Netflix starring James Nesbitt. Again excellent so far and really enjoying it.

Argh yes, my daughter is watching Say Nothing and said he is excellent in that too. I need to put that on my list 👍

Endured a few episodes because the wife likes it but given up .It's stupid when are we going to get back to proper quality drama all we seem to have is ridiculous stupid storylines or wokefests .As much as I hate the BBC they do seem to be the only station to occasionally make decent drama these days and even that's got rarer .For every 10 arty farty wokefests we get a good one .Don't even try itv anymore they are the worst the last one I tried started with the usual itv mixed marriage then a gay scene then a lesbian and the fourth was a one armed surgeon .I actually started laughing before hitting the off button .

The Essex Serpent finished and recommended.
Now trying to squeeze out a bit more from our free month’s trial with Apple TV, and watching Bad Sisters. Four episodes in, and really enjoying it.

This week sees the return of some yank shows after the festive period.
High Potential restarts on ep8 of S2. Light hearted and an enjoyable watch and S3 of the Rookie is back on.

As a gay one armed surgeon with a black lesbian wife, I’m glad to see ITV are finally taking diversity seriously.
