New What we all watching / recommendations thread?

Quality stuff. Made in 1964 but if that puts you off don't let it put you off... if you know what I mean.

I watched this on your recommendation & it was quite different & thought provoking. Gave an insight into how things most likely were. The Jacobite's didn't have a hope in hell of a victory. Talk about assisted suicide. Worth watching though.

Turned up at Culloden late one evening just as a mist was rising. That place has a real atmosphere I can tell you. I expect some of my Scottish distant relatives had been there during that battle.

As said, Only Murders is very good.

A Man on the Inside – Ted Danson plays a retired professor turned undercover P.I.
Gentle stuff, with a spry Danson showing his comic chops as well as ever. Season 2 out recently.

Nobody Wants This – Rom-com about a ‘hot’ rabbi and a sex podcaster.
The leads have great chemistry. Season 2 out recently.

The Studio – A Hollywood exec (Seth Rogen) who sees movies as art is promoted to studio head, with farcical results.
A load of Hollywood A-listers guest as themselves.
Not as light as the two above, but bloody funny, loads of zingers….
“I’ve never seen anything like it. It is disgusting. And I’m someone who did lines off of Kevin Spacey’s toilet.”
A Man on the Inside is a comfy watch indeed - Series 2 not as good as S1 but still watchable.

Probably on here somewhere but only just watched "Band of Brothers" accurate depiction of the certain battalions of the U.S. 101st Airborne Division. Lots of familiar (and younger) faces in the cast as it's from 20 odd years ago! Can highly recommend.

Having recently become a fanboy of anything Taylor Sheridan related (liked Yellowstone (and all it's spin offs), liked Tulsa King, love Landman which is excellent) I'm thinking of diving into Mayor of Kingstown - any views on this?

Mayor of Kingstown is absolutely brilliant but it is really really brutal and unforgiving, there is no light relief like his other series but boy it is good.

We have stared watching Deadwood again, it's probably the best Western series out there and is very realistic and based on real characters and what happened. My Mrs hates westerns generally but she loved this as it is an historical piece to. Tim Olyphant and in particular Ian McShane are superb.

Run Away on Netflix is good. Usual Harlan Coben piece.

Landman season 2 is out on Paramount+ which is very good.

Some good stuff coming out on Paramount over the next couple of months 👍🏻

Just watched the first episode of The Beauty. Enjoyed it and it reminds me of The Substance. Worth a watch to see supermodels exploding.

Netflix - The Lincoln Lawyer, based on Michael Connelly's books. Connelly wrote th Bosch series of novels and this series had the same twists and turns. Three series now augmented with a fourth -forty episodes for binge watching!

3 episodes in and I’m still waiting for something significant to happen in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Starting to compare it to the Lord of the Rings.

If they never left the Shire and spent 3 hours in the pub every film.

Trial of 7 in ep 4 - should finally see some action. Should be available tomorrow as it's been released early due to some American sport rubbish.

I absolutely love it, just watched episode 4, best thing on at the moment. (Don't like the Lord of The Rings or Hobbit movies, loved game of thrones until the last season and the spin off I could.t get into at all.

Episode 4 was the best so far.
Definite GOT vibes and not just the theme tune at the end.
They have swapped out the big set pieces for emotional depth.
Casting is superb.

Another shout for Landman, a superb piece of television.

Also finished Dexter Resurrection, which was enjoyable and back to the original format of the old Dexter stuff. The previous season was a bit wank so good to see it back to its best. Mia Wallace and Tyrion Lannister were good additions.

Loving the rerun of Smiley’s People on BBC4.
Labyrinthine plot, great pacing, impeccable character acting throughout as Alec Guinness hunts down his KGB rival Karla (Patrick Stewart).
"It's grey. Half-devils against half-angels. Nobody knows who the goodies are" – Beryl Reid as Connie Sachs.
A joy.

Plenty of very good stuff on Walter Presents on 4. All foreign with sub titles.

Some very good Scandi Noir, ...Spiral
( Engrenages ) been mentioned on here many times. Five Star.
I love Walter Presents stuff. Watched ‘Faking Hitler’ recently which was excellent. It’s based on a true story in the early 80’s of a fraudster who wrote Hitler’s Diaries and managed to pass them off as real, selling them to Stern Newspaper for millions…

Started watching McKenzie Crooks new comedy last night; Small Prophets, as expected it's another delightful, whimsical comedy int eh vein of the Detectorists, funny and sad, lovely characters including Michael Palin as the elderly dad who is in a nursing home suffering with dementia. McKenzie Crook can do no wrong as far as I am concerned.

A shout out for 'Camping', Julia Davis' dark comedy on YouTube. She is delightfully saucy and evil at the same time and the neurotic woman who treats her husband like a scabby dog with leprosy is ace. All hell breaks loose when the score disco biscuits at the local pub. Really good, 6 episodes.

I've watched the first two and as a fan of detetectorists knew I would like it. It's very enjoyable so far. It's just got that vibe about it that makes it comfort viewing.

It’s hilarious, isn’t it! Then again, anything involving Julia Davis is brilliant…

Started watching it but didn’t get into it like all the other Sheridan series. There’s a new series from Sheridan called ‘Madison’, a spinoff from Yellowstone, which starts in the States mid March, so should be showing here not long after.
