New Zealand v England 1st test

Can't argue with that session, England are firmly in control. Win the next session and barring weather, we should win the test.

Yes we are certainly in a strong position but we should bear in mind NZ have just beaten India 3-0 in India . They must be amongst the strongest ever sides from NZ and but for an unexpected and unusual inability to hold catches it would have been a very different situation

For me, they are the best. A win would be a huge step for this England team and a major scalp. Plenty of play in this test but we are 1 good session away from cracking it open.

Bah woken up with cramp :( Great cameo from Atkinson so let's hope Carse can stick around to get Stokes to his ton. The wicket will look very different facing a 150 deficit. Told you the green in the wicket first day wouldn't matter.

Cramp! Were you dreaming you had just bowled thirty quick overs in Islamabad?

Carse , 33 not out, turns down a single off the fifth ball of the over when Bashir is facing so that Carse will have the strike at the start of the next over as he is a much more capable bat so what does Bashir do ,slogs one straight up in the air off the last ball of the over. Pretty dim that to put it mildly.

Atkinson looks like a good middle order Test batsman and our 9,10, Jack are very good to take us to 499 all out.

However some players are just brain dead, Carse turns down a single to leave Bashir to try to survive the final ball of the over and get him back on strike and the clown goes and tries to smash it for six and gets caught out.

That was what I call a good days cricket, NZ lead by 4 runs with 4 wickets remaining. Just watched Bashir try to play bazball which was quite funny. England had a plan and NZ didn't.

Carse is a real prospect, can see he and Atkinson being our attack for the future, he has the attributes to be a real threat in Australia, need to balance the workload of all our quicks over the summer so we can have a real go at the Aussies next winter

The sad reality is that Wood and Archer will be injured either before or during the next two series. We need a solid plan B and I agree those two look decent.

I'd ditch both and concentrate on the fit and form gameplans from there.

I feel sorry for Wood. An excellent bowler who I think has tried (been told) to force pace and this is what has led to his problems.

Not seen any other than on the news, but it seems NZ needed to take 17+ wickets to dismiss Eng. You can't win games that way. Perhaps they are a bit complacent having whooped India and thought it a stroll.

The prospect of having Archer, Wood, Carse and Atkinson to rotate in Oz fills me with joy, in the latter we may have the 'new Stokes'. We also have Olly Stone and Matty Potts not to mention our very own Mahmood. The future is bright if you ask me not that anybody does :(

It’s an exciting prospect but it’s like an injury bingo with the England quicks, you can see at least two having niggles.
The Aussie pace attack of Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood always seem to be fit and firing

Carse with the final over before kebab. NZ call it lunch but gone midnight you eat kebabs in civilised countries so the first break is kebab.

Kebabs it is NZ 101 ahead with one wicket remaining and I'm going back to bed. Beware I may be back if I can't sleep and bore you to death with my various illnesses.

NZ all out, well done Mr Carse, so we need 104 to win which we will. Bedtime for me so good news in the morning I think. A 10fer for Carse in the match, top performance.

Like me you don't mind talking to yourself. I do it when Mrs Ross is asleep, I rarely talk when she's awake as I don't like to interrupt.😉

Like watching a T20 match this, Duckett gives his wicket away as England are 55-2 need 49 to win

Duckett was pretty suicidal but Bethell was confident ,very aggressive and very effective looks a big prospect.

A very impressive win but Stokes injury a big worry.

What a cracking effort throughout and today. Stokes still a worry though, I wish his body was as strong as his spirit. NZ will no doubt come back hard and they won't be shelling all those catches next time. Great series in prospect 👍

Yes excellent entertainment as England were clearly under instructions to blast their way to victory in Bazball style.

Great to see our outstanding prospect Jacob Bethell hit the winning runs on his way to fifty not out and poor Barry Chuckle get hammered for 38 off less than 4 overs!!

Sets us up nicely for a great series 1-0 up with two to play, two concerns are Ben Stokes injury and Zac Crawley's form, he looked like he'd never held a bat in this Test.

Its only the first test but the new breed of England players are looking well up for the job.

Great win 👍
