Blaming the Gold Coast for a rise in Scottish Covid cases, never liked the woman!

Nicola Sturgeon: 1,429 new coronavirus cases in Scotland and 15 deaths

570 people are in hospital - an increase of 43.

The first minister has advised people in Scotland not to go to Tier 3 England areas.

She said: "I need to advise you that trips to Blackpool are now associated with a large and growing number of COVID cases in Scotland.

"Blackpool is being mentioned in Test and Protect conversations far more than any other location outside of Scotland."

Ms Sturgeon said 342 people who were contacted by Test and Protect in the last week after having contracted coronavirus reported travel outside of Scotland, 252 to somewhere else in the UK and 94 had been to Blackpool

She's making a serious point though, isn't she? It does no harm for her to remind people that going off on a seaside jolly in the middle of a pandemic isn't very bright.

It could have been anywhere, really, but Blackpool is where they tend to end up. I wouldn't mind, but if you live in a place like Garthamlock or Easterhouse, you should be used to existing in a public health blackspot.....

The running total:

Sturgeon: ''At least 180 people in Scotland who tested positive for Covid-19 in the last month have reported a recent trip to Blackpool''

As a counter. Thanks for bringing the jock version of the virus to Blackpool, you horrible haggis eating f’s.

She’s a politician and uses what suits her. There no actual evidence that they caught the virus in Blackpool, just that they visited. They could have caught it anywhere

I’m not sure how you knock the Scots for coming on holiday to town that relies on holiday makers for its very existence.

Speaking from my time working on the Prom in a couple of different jobs the Jocks are great for the town and always give a decent tip, not like those tight Welsh f@ckers 🙄😉

She's not blaming Blackpool people from what I can see. She's blaming people coming here.
Nah I didnt read it like that.Very much a suggestion that they are catching it here and taking back up to Glasgae etc. Can you stick your head over the fence and see what Nige says? (smiley)

I get that she's not blaming residents SSP, but it's yet another case of have a go at Blackpool in general, which annoys me every time we get bad publicity for no fault of our own. IIRC Blackpool had a rate of around 20 per 100,000 a few months ago before being re-opened for visitors (which I agreed with to preserve jobs etc). Now people are being advised not to come here specifically because the rate has increased since allowing visitors again.

EDIT - Plumbs - I can't ask Nige any more - I've moved mate.

Any chance that they may have already traveled here with the virus and spread it here making things worse ? Absolutely no need to even mention our great town. This is a worldwide pandemic not a weekend pissup.

Fair enough although I do believe he often has a socially distancing pint in the Dunes with SSP ,where they compare elbow patches and talk about Status Quo.

I blame Sturgeon for not locking down Glasgow and letting the virus run riot there. Political. She locked down Aberdeen for 3 weeks after a very small outbreak. Needless to say that Aberdeen is not under SNP control. It did the trick mind. Grampian has pretty low rates compared to elsewhere.

Finally someone actually realises that the virus is rife in Blackpool. Walk around the town center it's full of transients and beggers. The old guest houses are full to busting with DHSS living cheek to jowel with one another. Small shops that never follow the rules regarding face coverings or social distancing. It's good to see someone actually realising the town is a shit hole.

Were they ripe for a con trick played on them. Things are different now,no mock auctions or three card monte tables. Back in the 70's they would stop for the week or two and end up stopping here, dont think many come here to live now.

A thread for little Englanders to vent their spleen, chuck in a bit of mysogony and it's the perfect gammon cocktail.
This has nothing to do with Little Englanders...she Is someone who it would seem will look for an excuse to avoid being blamed if things go pear shaped.Scotland as I understand it has been able to make its’ own decisions regarding how to deal with this and yet she can’t wait to blame the UK government if things are not going well.

I’m a proud Lancastrian,Northerner,Englander( to use you term) but most importantly a proud UK Citizen who is doing their best to keep this virus from spreading across this nation of ours whereas you it would seem would love to make political capital.

Blackpool has been rammed since we started to come out of lockdown and the Jocks have been visting here for years. On top of that people have been staycating and the weather has been particularly favourable so it’s inevitable we have a high rate, unfortunately some people have not been adhering to the guidelines and some of our businesses have not helped e.g. the Pleasure Beach by allowing to many visitors on. So are we expecting a marauding mass from Glasgow for this weekends Old Firm Derby as mentioned on the news?

today. My other job was driving a street cab bomber for a couple of years, you never had to leave the prom during bank holidays and the illuminations ...... happy days 😉.
So I have first hand experience of the Scots and Welsh tipping habits . The Scots always 👍🏻

So in one breath she is blaming Blackpool for the virus and then in another telling people not to travel to watch the Old firm game in our town on Saturday.

Classic diverse tactic from a politician she needs to get her own house in order when the virus is so prominent in Glasgow.

I'll make a political point. 12 billion paid to mates for a shambolic track and trace system. What a ** joke

I see Bobby Ewing is alive and well after emerging from his dreams (Part 2) ...where Jeremy won the election...Or perhaps not.
...and the money spent to date is a hell of lot but certainly not 12 billion....and what else were the government supposed to do...nothing?

I expected more for my money than an out of date excel spreadsheet. Maybe I'm too harsh

Shandy ...the one thing in all of this is we were ill prepared to deal with what we all know could potentially happen if a virus of this magnitude appeared( we had plenty of potential previous warnings)...and frankly I blame our politicians of all persuasions of avoiding planning for this and other matters( and there are plenty of them) as they all seem to live by the edict of today is all that matters and more importantly being and staying in “power”.
Pushing the can down the road avoids being unpopular when you have to make difficult decisions as voters may not be happy and they are all that counts as long as it for us.
is it any surprise today’s politicians are regarded in such low esteem.
