Norway don’t have a Mad Ed 😩

I think he’s saying that Starmer announced today that we are relaxing sanctions against Russia and will buy diesel and jet fuel from them.

No...I think you meant to say that the restrictions on buying (what could be Russian Oil) directly from a 3rd party supplier was changed yesterday.
So for a short period of time and to make sure that their isn't a shortage and a price surge, the restrictions are being eased due to possible Russian oil being mixed in through a 3rd party......

Nobody is buying oil or jet fuel from Russia.....I think Kemi got her hand slapped for suggesting this.....which was bollox.

It’s still Russian, just refined elsewhere, I can’t see Zelenskyy being happy

And that's why there is a set time limit on this particular restriction.

The UK makes sure energy prices don't go through the roof because they would have to instantly stop any purchase because there's a possible suggestions it could be Russian oil.....

The 3rd party supplier will now have the time to continue the supply and to confirm 100% it's NOT Russian.......and it wont affect inflation....which Dropped today because of energy supply prices

NOT political....just good economics, and tells Putin to F##K Off

I am yet to hear an argument from anyone who can convince me logically, why we shouldn’t drill our own oil more in the North Sea.

🤷‍♀️
It isn't our own oil and any oil drilled would be sold on the world market at current world prices, it makes no difference at all. The whole point of net zero is to stop using it as much as possible before it runs out. First mover advantage will be immense.

Would it create tax revenues for us and would it be more money than we currently have?

Because it's not ours. Any oil coming out would be sold on the world markets and not reserved for us.

So we pay 100 or whatever dollars a barrel to another country for our oil - and a chance someone can block it getting here.

Drill ourself -

Tax revenue
UK wages plus tax from those
Lack of risk of someone stopping it getting here
Saves the emissions of transporting here

Nope - @bill40 @Shandypants still waiting 👍
If here is one thing I keep banging on about on here (OK there's several!) It's real resources available. The guys organising the rigs are the same ones organising our green energy. They're best deployed building our alternatives. The future is happening whether you like it or not. Jacobite!!

Plus the oil (now energy) companies are using their profits for R&D into greener energy to help a just transition. So lets deprive them of income to do that 🤷 And all the high tax paying employees are having to move abroad to work.

I think you probably meant Luddite but I get your point.

Still waiting?

Just to add and show the bollox on here….

BP recently pivoted its strategy, slashing green energy investments by over 5 billion quid a year and focusing back on fossil fuels.

👍

The pathway is clearly going to be renewables and nuclear until we invent some sort of alien inspired power generator. So if we believe that is the inevitable path then demand for oil will collapse.

So surely we might as well get this stuff out now whilst people want it and will pay a massive amount on the world market? It might not give us the energy security people believe it will, but it will create additional jobs to the renewables and a massive amount of tax revenue.

Now I know that Labour will probably spend that on more migrant hotels and more benefits for the slackers. Reform will pop it into Nigel's ISA fund and the Tory's would give it to the Aristo's whilst build a £500bn rail track from London to Oxford - however some of the scraps left over might just help our economy??

Or how about give the licenses and ring fence the revenue to fund a new National Grid, nuclear sites and renewables so we can be more self sufficient?

I am clearly missing something

Maybe the £5 billion has gone in tax 😂

It was the Tories who imposed the taxes.
You are missing the point.

Yes a tax was put on oil companies profits - but this decision didn’t happen because of that.

It was a CHOICE where to invest.

Anyway, NOBODY on here has put up a proper or even average argument of why we should not drill our own while we can 👍

Just to add - we have just approved to buy JetFuel from India from Russian oil.

It’s criminal 😢

You must have missed it then.

I’ve said for months now we’re sat on huge oil reserves in the North Sea that need drilling.

The Norwegians are amazed and so to is Trump we aren’t drilling for it.

One poster said back (can’t remember who it was) said it’s cheaper to buy it so I asked for evidence but surprise surprise got nothing back.

As for buying Russian oil (jet fuel via India) is an utter joke we’ve had sanctions on Russia for over 4 years now another utter joke it’s all just pointless what have we/Europe achieved?

How am I missing your point in responding to your comment "It would not be a shock that a labour government takes so much, it stops companies investing as much". Just pointing out the Tories started the windfall taxation.

Also, I'm not proposing any arguements against drilling.

The current government don't know what they are doing. Bring back Tony Benn - who wanted to set up a Sovereign Wealth Fund like Norway did.

You laughed and said the 5 billion had gone in tax.

It hadn’t 👍

Labour have opened no migrant Hotels but have closed over half, all of which were on contracts issued by Reform's Jenrick and Braverman.

Carry on.

So why haven’t Labour immediately reversed this - considering they are the champions of nationalisation?

Genuine question?

The easy stuff has been taken out, remaining reserves are a lot more difficult to extract and not economically viable. Do some basic research.

No but the numbers are down and all without concentration camps and jackboots kicking doors down. Makes you proud to be British.
Congratulations Labour. Starmer in?

Just wondering though, when will they have also “smashed the gangs”?

This is straight out of the Farage playbook of "everything is easy". Do you not think multiple governments would not have done this if it was financially or practically viable?

Might as well let Rosebank and Jackdaw go ahead now as they are ready to roll, but they won’t make much difference, perhaps a per cent or two to our output, and no discernible difference to international prices, but seems sensible to utilise what is easy to do.
The reality is that we have seen the best of our sector of the North Sea, which is a declining asset and their have been loads of licenses issued over the last decade or so that have yielded very little.

That would make no sense why companies are still applying for licences.

A quick search implies the North Sea is still very lucrative.

Well it is how it has been in recent years. That hasn’t stopped companies wanting to chance their arm on it you are right, but so far not much joy.
Not much gas left, which would be most useful and the heavy oil that is left has to go abroad to be refined. The easy stuff has gone.
Reform are talking about on land fracking again.
Whether there is any future in that or not I don’t know, but there will be resistance for sure.
Companies will probably want to see a drop in the threshold of allowable earthquake activity I would think, and also the British Geological Survey think the UK will need to be very cautious in their approach to it due to potential seismic activity, aquifers, radon gas etc etc.

The figure is down to 171,000 all without concentration camps and jackboots kicking doors down, take time to get the details right instead of simplistic nonsense, it's amazing what can be achieved. Starmer is doing well it's just a pity he's so dislikable.

'We're sick of experts' was part of the Brexit argument.

Reform will follow Donald's lead (without the invasions of neighbouring countries for their resources hopefully)

Why do so many of Starmer’s colleagues think he’s not doing well?

The figure is down to 171,000 because a net 138,000 British nationals, likely our best educated, wealthiest and most productive, left the country.

So 138,000 substantial taxpayers lost, 309,000, mostly of questionable, if any, value gained, and you think that's a win?

A ludicrous assumption, are all British nationals white? A substantial number will not be. This is good news for regular immigration as it's now skills based again. There's more to be done on small boat arrivals but they are being processed more quickly with many removed. The problem is being solved.
