Number one fan?

Something they do at Atletico is to identify the longest serving season ticket holders by the membership number. So the longest serving season ticket holder has a membership number 1, the second longest serving membership number 2 and so on. I think it is a great idea for fan engagement and they also honour the longest serving in different ways like getting them to lead out the team occasionally.

Obviously, in our case we would have to exclude the NAPM years from the ranking. But just wondered what others thought of this and whether it is something our SLO could put to the club as a prospective idea? Also, I wondered if there are any potential contenders on here for the title of number one fan - that is the longest consecutive seasons of holding a season ticket (excluding the NAPM years)?

If the data simply isn't there because of a lack of records being kept then maybe it is something we could start from the period since SS came on board, so starting from last season. The secondary ranking could then be done by age (eldest first) as otherwise there would be 4000 tied for first place. What do you all think?

Looks like an elaborate and pointless way of dividing people to me. No thanks.
Exactly. Doesn't exactly encourage youngsters to get involved, and I wouldn't have an SLO anywhere near the prioritising of tickets either.

Isn't this done to a degree with banding? Longer season ticket holders get priority on things, in the Prem season with huge demand for away games it would work its way down from however many years + to general sale, for some big games they never made it past certain bands

As you say doing something like this is a bit complicated now due to the boycott, being the longest serving season ticket holder now if it includes the boycott years would be met with disdain by most the fanbase rather than celebration.

Another I'm a better fan than you thread.
Whether you've supported Blackpool 50 years or 50 weeks
Whether you go to every away match or just the odd one or two
Whether you've had a season ticket for twenty years or just go to the games you can get to.
It doesn't matter.
WE ARE ALL BLACKPOOL FC SUPPORTERS

Not a good idea, what about the wilderness years of the boycott? The mushrooms continued to pay for their season tickets whilst many of us had a break.

My sentiments entirely Wizzerboy , family commitments, work commitments, lots of factors can dictate how many games you can go to.

I have been fortunate to support Blackpool for 60 years does that make me a better supporter ? NO

I have always thought the young fans are very important they are our future ,

Not for me, I don't see the point.

Obviously it's Owen.
Yes, I guess it's obvious when you think about it. His current age and the fact that he has been a supporter since the age of two...😀

In terms of the replies in general, I think the title of the thread was not the best, and 'number one fan' was the wrong phrase to use. It obviously came across as being provacative with the reaction being the idea would cause animosity and division amongst the fan base. That was never the intention, but, given the NAPM period, totally understandable. It was a key reason why I suggested it all be reset to SS time.

Anyway, just to be clear, the way it actually works at Atletico is that the club and fans alike tend to celebrate the longest serving members, who are very elderly. The longer you remain a member the smaller your member's number as some fans don't renew or unfortuantley pass away. Anyway, clearly a 'busted flush' of an idea which should be filed under 'bin' 🚮

Not a fan of the idea the club need to steer clear anything to do with the boycott years this just brings it up.

As to rewarding fans it comes across as a bit anal.

Well said bfc60.
I saw my first match during the War years (no jokes about WW1 please' 😉 ).
However having lived away for over 30 years and unable to get to see games, I wouldn't rank on the list.
All I know is that I never stopped supporting BFC since my 1st game in 1942/3.
