o/t Glastonbury Thread 2022

A remarkable and spectacular set from McCartney in many ways. He certainly threw the kitchen sink at it.
I loved it, and yet it could have been so much better.
Poor song selection let it down for me at many stages, and Bruce ended up stealing the show a bit with ‘Glory Days’. Now there’s a Glastonbury act long overdue.
A great performance though from Sir Paul.

PS what has Ringo done to upset him? All the others got a mention.

Yes Macca is a living legend
Yes Macca did ever so well to last nearly 3 hours out there
Yes Macca rolled out a possession of hits.

Unfortunately, for me, it was really sad to see an old bloke whose voice was shot to shit struggling with some of those hits.
If some folk get off on nostalgia then play his records, cd's or watch his videos.

As was proven with Rod Stewart, Diana Ross and Simon Le Bon at the Jubilee concert, once the voice has gone there isn't really anywhere to go.

From someone who loves the music of the Beatles and Wings, please Paul, hang up the bass and enjoy a well earned retirement. I think your legacy warrants that👍🏻

I turned it off and went to bed was bored out of my head 20's is bang on the money about Macca's set list.
This is Glasto where you go for the event not the artist as tickets are sold out before any of the acts are named.

This is mind every headline on the Pyramid stage play their biggest hits these are not your fans who'd turn up to see you in an arena where you can sing what you want.

We've all got our favourite Macca songs.
A shame he didn't play stuff like Here There & Everywhere, Every Night (a hit for Phoebe Snow) or the absolute banger that is Jet.
But hey, when you're the world's most successful living songwriter, you can play what the hell you like.

Haim were great as always.
Roisin Murphy is bonkers but makes for a hell of a party.

Seems not everyone shares the same opinion as Hertford and Levi then. My comments perfectly valid. Too many unknown songs in that first hour. Set list could have been so much better. He has a back catalogue like no other yet played too many songs people just simply didn't know. He even said it himself which some on here choose to ignore. He could tell by the lights on the phones whether people knew the songs or not and rightly or wrongly he didn't bother about it. A strong finish though.

Oh and just for you Nige, he probably didn't do "All You Need is Love" at the end because it's a Lennon song. 😉 😉 I wish he had though because it would have been a great finish.

Here's his set list. So many unfamiliar songs in that first hour or so.

Old men on football forum struggle with any music made after the 1990s shocker.
The problem is we had the jubilee concert with Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and Elton John and Glasto Paul McCartney. Either new music doesn't stand up or they're not given a chance. By the way all the acts above were crap.

And the other two headline acts are?

The only reason McCartney played last night was because he was booked in for the 50th anniversary of Glastonbury two years ago before getting cancelled.
They both honoured the booking.👍

Bugger!
Watched the recording when I returned from a 40th party and it ended when he started singing “Let it be”
Checked I player and Virgin media and not listed
Will it be repeated?

Pete, I just think he's PM and not a Beatles tribute band, he's earned the right to play songs from his more recent catalogue. As Noel Gallagher said, to all the bucket hats out there, you're gonna love the last part of the show, but for now you're listening to my stuff.
McCartney's voice is shot, but at least he didn't do a Brian Wilson and have about half a dozen backing singers propping him up, which sort of defeats the object.
However each to his own, still won't be rushing out to buy any of his stuff, but I enjoyed last night for what it was.

Yep, can't argue with the fact he's earned the right and it's not just about the Beatles. Wings did some great stuff too. I still come back to this though. The audience generally want to hear songs they know and can sing along too and that simply wasn't the case for so many songs early on. And it's not an over criticism but McCartney probably has very little impact on todays music listeners. In other words the younger generation aren't all going to rush out and buy his latest album. Rightly or wrongly by whichever way you look at it, last night was a nostalgic tribute to perhaps the greatest songwriter of the last sixty years and for me the audience wanted to hear far more of his classic songs and it's why my first comment on the thread related to the set list he had played up to that point. And I wasn't alone in making that point.

His voice went about 6 years ago, you can even hear it when hes just talking but so what? Hes a living legend and headlining the biggest festival at an age when a lot of us will probably be getting our arses wiped. Hes amazing , its just a case of getting past his voice is not very strong anymore ......but hes still here and doing it. The melodies are still there.
So if you can't do it don't do it. It doesn't do your reputation any good. Look at the laughing stock that is Rod Stewart.
Look towards those who still can like Van Morrison.

Looks good for his age but what a awfull line up this year overall .Thought the king of writing nursery rhymes and some of the poorest songs ever written sounded better than he has done in recent times

Both Paul McCartney and John Lennon have sited Elvis, Chuck Berry and Karl Perkins as inspirations, so do we give those guys credit for the Beatles?

Course as an influence, I loved Chuck Berry and Bo Didley before the Beatles started as a four piece Pop group.

Enjoying Fontaines DC at home with a few cold beers, great to be able to pause it and answer the call of nature then picking up another beer, logistical nightmares when I see them on Lytham green in a couple of weeks time!!

Seeing them in Dublin next Saturday. Had the tickets for two and a half years. They only had one album when the gig was announced, this is their first time playing Dublin since December 19 due to the various lockdown postponements. Three albums in the bag now, looking forward to it.

That will be a special night, enjoy it pal!

Fontaines were great, apart from the opening song when the backing singers were out of tune! Looking forward to seeing them at Lytham. Good line up that night 👍

Diana Ross.
You have been a legend but sorry love you really are past it.
She is talking as opposed to singing; and how many flat notes?
