I got to see this movie last nigh, and it was far better than I imagined, even though I had high hopes for it. Phoenix is mesmerising throughout, possibly the best lead acting I have seen for some years. It's a dark tale about society and mental health but I couldn't take my eyes off it.
If he doesn't win an Oscar for best actor then there is no justice in the world. How much weight did he lose to get to the skeletal physique he was in? Beautifully shot too in a Gotham City that could be any large American city in the 60's. 70's or 80's which gave the film a time of it's own so you knew you were in an alternative world but one so close to are own.
