o/t Last time you were in Blackpool sea!

Around 43 years ago when I was about 8 years old. My mum took me and one of my school friends down to the beach and we had a splash in the sea. Came out after about 10 minutes with a 4 inch long gash up one of my legs, hadn’t even felt a thing while we were swimming around. Never been back in since.

About 30 years ago went skinny dipping after a nightclub (don't remember which one). Came out in a big rash. Never been back in

A very, very long time ago, off the dunes beyond Squires Gate. Floating alongside me was a rather large turd. I've not been in since. I do hope that Gary Goals hasn't picked up anything nasty.

[EDIT: It might have been the same turd Mates spotted!]

do you think because we live here we subconciously dont go in the sea like the tourists would because of all the stories of folk being dragged out? I havent even paddled in it for about twenty/thirty years.Thats not necessarily down to the fact im worried or anything but maybe the locals tend to avoid it with that knowledge in the back of our heads? I dont know. Plus we know how disgusting the water really is,I think thats more likely.

A fella who used to live on our estate when I was a kid was killed one night he was walking his dog on the seawall.Dog jumped in and he went in after it.Dog got out he didnt

You could swim aged 8? The tide must have been a long way out.

Not sure I ever have. When I was a kid it was at its toxic peak, pretty much full of turds and mysterious bubbling white slime, think the EU even banned people swimming in it at one point.

When I was a kid in the mid/ late seventies, came out looking like one of the kids in the old readybreck adverts, bnfl sellafied has a lot to answer for

You may recall a good friend of ours used to go in the sea occasionally and ended up with the lifeguard called out on two separate occasions about 8 years apart. Both times made the BBC NW news :)

Ahh, forgot about that 🤣🤣 didn’t he jump off the roof of the bar at the end of the north pier.
got pretty cut up by the barnacles on the pier legs?

Been in a few times this year - the problem with Blackpool sea is it's not really 'a swimming sea' - if you go for a run down the beach though, quite nice to have a dip afterwards 👏

39 years since I swam in the sea. Its much better now the sewage station has stopped pumping waste straight into the sea.

The Environment Agency announced 2019's results will be rolled over into 2020, meaning Blackpool's Central, South and North beaches continue to be rated 'good', while Bispham has maintained its 'excellent' classification. Not sure what it is currently.
Exiled in Devon, I'm lucky. My local beach is Broadsands which is blue flag (as is Goodrington Sands). Perfect for Paddle-boards.

Yes that's it. Jumped off Bernard Delfonts. Got cramp and had to rest on one of the pier legs. Someone saw him and called the coastguard. By the time they arrived the tide was on it's way out and the water was up to the waist of the rescuer. He could have walked back!

Happened again a few years later when he fell in after a session on Sunday lunchtime in a pub in North Shore. He was still holding a beer bottle above the surface when he went under. Obviously where his priorities lay. Think he genuinely needed rescue on that occasion although he denied it.

Ha ha , stupid is as stupid is, I’ll be landing next week mate ( not by sea plane though) I’ll be in touch 👍

About 30 years ago did a raft race from Central to North pier for charity. Couldn't help but get in the water at the raft started to fall apart

47 years ago down at Starr Gate, I remember lying down in the shallows & floating about on my back, came out with a few creepie crawlies on my back. Never been in since.

Same here, but I was covered in them, about the same time as well. Around early 70s.
Really hope big Gaz is feeling OK after the 3rd kit reveal!!!

I swim in the sea as much as I can when it's warm enough. The last time was a couple of weeks ago in the heatwave. There's nowt wrong with the sea in Blackpool and people should actually research before condemning it for being full of shit. The beach even won a prestigious Blue Flag award in 2016 and National Awards in 2022, see link below

Off to Bosherston (Pembrokeshire) for a swim in the Sea today hopefully... 🏊‍♂️ Probably 20 years + since been in the sea at Blackpool.
