Okay a bit off topic as stated in the title last night is the first time in years that I haven't ridden through the lights with my 2 boys but neither could make it with Dad last night. I was stressing about transfer deadline so decided to go out and take in the night as a spectator for a change and whilst there try my best to capture on film what it is like. The weather was nice and calm so an opportunity to get some decent drone footage of the promenade too.

If you have never been down to one or you are an exile maybe? and you would like to see how Blackpool was last night, it really does look awesome, hope you enjoy watching this 🙂

Brilliant as usual Lee. Unfortunately I have been confined to bed for the last week with a severe chest infection so couldn’t go. Watching your video was the next best thing, me and Mrs gofor will be there again next year, no matter what. Once again thanks, if we can’t go to it you can bring to us. 👏👏👏👏

I’ve just done the night run tonight. Great event and really enjoyable being back out doing organised events again.

Plus the illuminations look great close up!!

I think I'd rather see that than a load of lycra clad speedsters doing the Tour de Yorkshire!

I enjoy your drone shots, but wish you would let us see the full view of the Tower before it ends (might be my phone?) The classic royalty free music adds a certain additional dimension too.

What grabs me is the sheer variety of people having fun. Fella on a fat chariot decides to convert it to Karaoke; crack on.

Woman clapping along to said fella; fill your boots love. Who needs Reading and Leeds when you've got random Karaoke..

Some cheap Postman Pat plywood cutout with a battery operated light stuck underneath; why not!

Want to adorn your BMX with additional flashing lights; course you do!

Honestly, compared with so much of the rest of this country; the live and let live attitude that permeates Blackpool is just brilliant.

These videos of this type of event reminds me how blessed I am to have been brought up in the town.

It's not the most refined place on earth, it has more than it's fair share of problems; but my God, it knows how to have fun.

Love Blackpool

Love the film Lee 👍

Great film, great fun, great town ❤️
Thanks Lee 👍

** thing should be banned as it generates nothing whatsoever.Red Bank Rd blocked off and after going out of my way to get to Sainsburys, all the spaces were taken by people using it as a cycle ride preparation area.👎

I’d imagine that it generates an awful lot of happiness, though clearly not for you, you miserable sod

Really good. Loved the drone footage. Are you doing that yourself @LeeCharlesTV?
Hi Mac

Yes all of the footage in this video is filmed, edited and put together by yours truly. I have the DJI Mavic Mini 2 which is a fantastic little drone, took my drone pilot test and got my operators licence last year. I think the clips just give the videos a little extra 🙂 I took some great drone shots on the Bournemouth videos too you may not have seen those?

Yes life is starting to feel like it's slowly getting back to normal. Wonderful to see Blackpool busy again so many businesses have been lost to the lockdown

haha! yes much more fun than the Tour de Yorkshire

I have no idea why? but the video jumped just before it got to the top so I decided to chop it just before the glitch, was hoping nobody would notice LOL

Agree with all of those that's why I filmed them I guess you see it with the same joy that I do I always feel blessed to have been born here and I love filming fun things that go on here

I love Blackpool too glad you loved the video

Great video that Lee, how do you get the aerial shots do you lash Jane underneath a glider? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha! gosh poor Jane could you imagine😂 All filmed on my DJI MAVIC Mini 2 - would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of buying one although I would wait a while the 3 is coming out soon and it looks even more amazing

I think everyone in Blackpool gets a bit fed up with how the illuminations and events affect the roads around Blackpool but I think most can accept that without events and the illuminations the town would be dead like Morecambe. I have always liked the contrast between madness and mayhem and then the quiet of the off season where we get our town back for a while

However I do have to disagree I would imagine that it does bring money in the town you can see on the video there are loads of people down there who are walking about spending money, going in the arcades, buying food from the food outlets. Lots of people come from out of town to do it and I would imagine some will come and do the pleasure beach during the day and some will stay over. The chippy's in Bispham do a bomb!

I'm pretty sure that if it didn't generate any income they would scrap it

Maybe next year either don't leave going to Sainsburys in Bispham too late maybe get it done before say 6pm or go shopping the night before. However if you do forget other supermarkets are available 🙂

Lee where did you learn to fly the drone. I've purchased one but can only manage up and down. I've got a Parrot Drone with the Fish Eye Lens.

Ride the lights should not determine when or which supermarket i go to. How about a small participation fee with the proceeds going to Trinity or Brian House or what that be unacceptable to the local and visiting freebie merchants.
ps: Vintage by the Sea Festival in Morecambe is rammed every year.

You need to get out more there has been signs for over a week saying the prom would be closed.
As to not generating anything we'll all the stalls on the prom where taking coin on Lee's video.

You win most miserable post of the week. 👍

The Drone pull back footage at the end was top notch, well stabilised 👍 I can imagine it as an uplifting hopeful ending shot of a film about the pandemic.

We do live in a weirdly unique and wonderful place, imagine living somewhere that's not the Fylde Coast, seems very boring.

Great video Lee, worth it for that drone footage alone.

Great views and nice shots, I think the tide being like that was perfect too. Wasn't miles out or fully in, got that perfect short beach with water close also.

If anyone wants the full tour... walk on the wild side has done one. Good to see the prom all lit up and any newer additions. Its a long way all that way down and to get all the buildings in top condition or upgraded takes time, but you can see many improvements over years.

I like the Boulevard hotel, looks very good, not new but the velvet coaster is and looks great, love the massive hotels like imperial, so grand. Sands hotel looks impressive.

For any flak throw at the town its all forgotten when on the front, its a great place and just to be there amongst it, tons to do, lights, fun, big grand hotels, Tower, rides, piers etc and the sea. 👍

🙄 You’re doing an awful lot of digging on this thread and now this. Any chance you could feck off to Kavala.

Flew it round the house, then the garden, then a big field moved onto the promenade between the central and North Pier, watched and still watch drone tutorial videos took my pilots test and got my operators licence last year.

I think its best to fly it close to you (within say 50 metres) for as long as you can. The hardest thing I find is judging how close you are to say a lamp post or a tree or some object which is a long way away or flying low a long way from you.

I always get this weird feeling when flying backwards even in the shot backing away from the tower that I'm going to back into something even though I know there is nothing there (which freaks me out 🤣😂🤣)

They are quite easy to handle as the GPS keeps them quite stable but the bit that worries me is judging the distance, the first time i used it i flew it into a brick wall. There's always the return to home feature if you run into a spot of bother as well. My drone is quite lightweight but the bigger drones like your Phantom could cause some damage if it hits someone.

I'm always happy to support or donate to Trinity they do a wonderful job and can never thank them enough for how they looked after Dad until the end but sometimes it's okay for people to just do things they enjoy without doing things for good causes. However I imagine there will be quite a few people who do these things for charity it's a great opportunity for that could be a good idea for you next year.

Thanks JJ yes got really lucky with the tide the tower lights shine on the sea beautifully don't they 🙂🙂

Yes it would be a great ending shot for that kind of film. I agree despite its faults it does look incredible especially at night (as Holloway famously said🤣)

You mean a voluntary donations collection point like with the main illuminations traffic?

Yep I could and would support/donate.
I'm sure many would can't see any reason why not I did see people out collecting with buckets only problem nowadays is we don't carry cash like we used to

The shot of the stalls on the prom is outrageously good. I could have watched that for a lot longer. It captures something about Blackpool that is hard to put into words.
Yes I know what you mean I edited the clip down there is more but I was trying to just give a taste of the atmosphere. It's that old saying leave them wanting more 🙂😂
