O/T The Sopranos

There was a thread a while back Sopranos vs Peaky Blinders.
At that point I'd never seen the Sopranos but loved Peaky Blinders.
Think most of the votes went to Sopranos.
Watched every episode since and get the voting now. Every night I came home I'd slam the door shut Tony style 😉

Agree completely. I'm currently re-watching it for about the 7th time too and am down to the final 8 episodes.

I love Pine Barrens, but Whitecaps is my favourite episode. Superb acting from Tony and Carmela.

7th time watching the same series? I don't know about Tony Soprano I think some of you lot need a therapist 😳

I missed that thread but peaky blinders is not even worth a mention alongside the sopranos.

Started the Wire and then ended up going on to something else. Need to get back on it as it sounds very good.

It's the range of characters in The Sopranos which makes it. I used to like Johnny Sack and how he answered the phone just saying speak. Top notch viewing.

The wire I found difficult at first because of the language and constant mumbling from the corner kids, which would be for authenticity.

I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes a few times and really struggles then it just clicked.ike the sopranos it gets better on every viewing because you miss so much first time.

Currently at season 3 on my first watch.

Incredible series so far, definitely up there! The Wire is still king for me, followed closely by Fargo.

After reading the various posts about The Wire, I think we'll give it a try.
Last year you recommended that we watch Justified.
It took us a few episodes of S1 to get into it but we loved it. It got better and better.

We're not really in to watching programmes over and over again, but we might have another look at The Sopranos because it was brilliant.

Glad you enjoyed justified, another absolute treasure.

Probably the only one on my list of things I watch again, and if you have patience, is mad men.

The wire is astonishing. It truly is.
It is though, probably on my 5th rewatch and feels as fresh as ever. And frightening. David Simon worked with baltimore police for a year to get it right (and homicide and the corner which he did).

Season 4 of the wire, based in schools, is unrivalled for me as the best season of television ever made.

I really like the dockers one as well but the yeah, the schools one is stunning.

Season 2 on the docks is fantastic and my second favourite by a short hair.

Season 4 with watching the 4 friends develop and find their way in a frightening environment was stunning. Plus season 4 had Snoop really coming int it, and played the part of a femaile baddie unbelievably, it was only when I googled her a few years ago she did time for murdering someone, did her time and then landed the role.

I resisted watching it for a long time as well as the hype was so intense. I generally find if something is hyped to the level the wire is, it's at best 'quite good' as opposed to what it's claimed to be.

I've watched it three or maybe four times and I've never, ever rewatched any other drama series in my life. I will almost certainly watch it again some time. Lester Freeman is the wisest man on earth.
