o/t What does a vegetarian have at a BBQ?

Brother's wife is a veggie .. what do you give them off a greasy meat filled bbq!
Cheese slice on a roll?!
If it's a gas bbq it would be an insult to give them anything that would be cooked over meat grease infested coals.

If charcoal, you should divide the bbq into 2 areas with tin foil between them and make sure the grills are only used for the correct food.

If they like fish, you could do a whole sea bass which always goes down well or salmon- don't try tuna as it dries out. We also do veg kebabs and put fruit in them as well (pineapple, mango etc). Halloumi is nice too, but google how to do it as it can be tricky.

Beyond meat burger (tescos sell these). Put some veg on kebab stick, season and grill. Corn on the cob, wrap in tin foil with butter and some paprika then when done char grill it and sprinkle some cheese on it.

Im no veggie, but cut down on red meat, so have had the beyond burger mentioned above and it definitely can pass for a very good beef burger (pretty expensive as I recall though).

Not quite as good but much cheaper and still very good are Linda McCartney quarter pounder or QP with mozzarella burgers. They are frozen, so maybe better to cook in the oven and finish on the BBQ or just serve from the oven (I've never tried, they might be fine on the BBQ if you can keep them apart from the meat?). I've served them to serious carnivores and both didn't realise they weren't beef until I told them.

Cauldron Lincolnshire style veggie sausages, available in most supermarkets. Try them yourself, we've converted some of our carnivore family to them, as they are so good.

Richmond meat free sausages
Meatless Farm sausages

Huge selection of burgers too including Meatless Farm, Richmond Meat Free, Plant Pioneers (Sainsburys) and Birds Eye Green Cuisine Meat-Free burgers.

Tescos - 'Naked Glory' 1/4 pounder burgers 2 in a purple coloured pack found in plant based fridge section.
Bloody great they even bleed! Serve in a soft fresh Brioche bun ( not your bog standard white bap ) and garnish with tomatoes red onion and lashings of mayo, tommy sauce and mustard. Highly recomended with a greek salad..you know..chopped feta cheese, cucumber, tomatoes olives and red onion ( go easy on the onion) serve that up with a few real ales :) Should only cost you a packet.

I'm the only meat eater in our house so when I'm BBQing my wife and kids have veggie kebabs, corn on the cob and best of all - halloumi cheese. I nibble at the halloumi cheese while I'm cooking burgers and sausages etc !

If they are anti-meat why are they so desperate to eat something that looks like meat? I’ve never understood that!
Hilarious, and when you say "they" you mean me and various others.

I am 61. Not eaten animals since the early 1980s.

You of course completely and utterly miss the point. So I will ask you this, what body part of an animal looks like a burger or a sausage? Its just something to eat, that's all! Chill.

Kenny Dougall is a vegan and an excellent chef so my social media analyst tells me. His partner regularly posts pictures of his culinary efforts on instagram.
I think he must be a "vegan influencer". 😟

Well, without wanting to be puerile, pedantic or facetious, there is an animal part that resembles a sausage.
I didn't want to give the carnivorous lobby the very dubious pleasure of pointing that out.

As far as the veggieburger is concerned-it's all about texture and convenience, isn't it, rather than resemblance to a meat product?
What's more, you don't have to be "anti-meat" to be vegan or veggie. It might purely be a matter of taste. My wife is vegetarian, and doesn't give a s*** what I eat, as long as I enjoy it, and cook it myself. :)

As others have posted loads of different veggie burgers and sausages etc at supermarkets just don't forget to buy a cheap throw away BBQ as no way can you cook stuff on the same coals.

I don't get all these foods being recommended that are impersonating meat.
If your a veggie why would you want such a stupid thing put in front of you😲

I'm veggie and having a BBQ tonight, Halloumi, that's always the best ! Halloumi, a large flat mushroom, skewers of peppers and onions on a brioche bun, excellent! Oh and of course a corn on the cob. For burgers as such many veggie options do tend to fall apart, I make my own, but I feel that's too much bother for you tonight, but black bean based burgers with onion and pepper breadcrumbs and spices works.

Fish especially large marinated prawns 🍤. The usual sausages & horrid burgers I tend to swerve that shit for chicken, ham, mushrooms, peppers & onions in kebab format, with lashings of Tabasco sauce & lemon juice to marinate, I must try this with prawns. I’m not a vegetarian but I could probably do without meat.

To avoid confusion vegetarians do not eat fish 🙄

I think you'll find the correct answer is Paul McCartney.

I always thought it was Linda but I'm certainly not going to argue with you as it is evidently clear that you have a far greater veggie knowledge than me.

In fact, if I was a veggie myself I'd certainly be making myself available for any of your dos as you clearly put far more effort in on the veggie front than your average host.

I’m not a veggie but there’s a lot of decent alternatives that are surprisingly nice

Sainsbury’s do some nice veggie burgers
