Odds of us finishing third

Looking at the games left there is a great chance of us finishing third which gives us a slight advantage in playing away leg first. It would also mean we would avoid Sunderland as a 2 legged fixture. Either way if we finish in the playoffs I think that is a very successful season after a nightmare start.

It doesn't really matter where you finish in the playoffs just as long as you win them.
I've seen plenty of teams finish 3rd and balls it up, likewise I've seen teams sneak into 6th and go up.
The last two matches suggests that our mojo may have returned so wherever we end up I'm sure we'll give it a right go.

Think I'd preferred a home tie first.
Our away form is as good, if not better, than at Bloomfield Road and like in 2010, pressure would be off for the second leg.
Fancy us against anyone at their place, just have to give ourselves a chance in the first leg, should it pan out that way.
That's assuming we qualify of course, says Mr. Glass-quarter-full.

We get who we get,if it is Lincoln, bring it on.
Yeah in that game we battered Lincoln and should have scored 2 more than we did.

We than went into our shells and tired a bit.

We now have players coming back who will make a difference. Tough game as is any but bring them all on, if we secure that last point of course.

If we want to get promotion we will have to play Lincoln, in my opinion they are the team to beat and I’m sure they will get to the final unless we play them in the semis. Sunderland have had poor form at the worst time of the season but I still think they are formidable and dangerous opponents in the play offs too! Let’s not forget whoever seals the final play off spot, if teams can’t motivate themselves and up their performances in the play offs the. I don’t know when they can. Either way I’m sure there’s plenty of emotional rollercoasters to ride between now and the end of the season. UTMP 🧡

Pompey play Accy on Sunday at home. If the visitors decide to park the bus, then an afternoon of angst and frustration might be in store for the hosts.

I would want us to play Lincoln, we haven’t beat them this season , so it’s about time we did. If we managed to get past them , then Sunderland at Wembley, as the pressure on them would be immense, we would be the underdogs which has served us well over the years.

everything is all if's and buts. Can analyse it forever and a day but it doesn't change anything. If we make the play offs we get who we get and then it'll be all about on the day for each match.
Totally agree, but isn’t it exciting, and intriguing.

It is, but I just get the sense that some on here think that just because we've beaten teams already that it's a given we are going to beat them again . Football doesn't work like that. Like I said, fine margins. And that works both ways. ie the close matches we've won but also the close matches we've either lost and drawn.

Well we have beaten all the top teams except for Lincoln, but I agree, no game is a foregone conclusion as we’ve proved in the recent losses to Rochdale and Shrewsbury.

I don't fear no side in the play offs and i'm not arsed who we get either as long as we get in.in fact i'd fancy us against any of them over two legs.

Hopefully the team is just focused on Donny Rovers , we need to beat them, we need to play well, we need our difference makers to build confidence, we need Jerry Yates to keep scoring, so often in this league the difference is one quality striker, he will be relishing the thought of being that guy (lets face it, if he scores 8 goals between now and the final he's worth 5 million and getting a dream move or a pay bump).

Right now just looking forward to Tuesday, hope you all can get back in the ground soon. I would be quite confident with fans in the ground, we have a very good record at home in play off games I think partly because of the atmosphere we've created in those games, it can be a really tight, intimidating place for a league one footballer with 14'000 "on" as our slightly less evolved neighbors would say.

Agree, in 2001 we lost both league games comfortably to Hartlepool but won both play off games comfortably. Then in 2010 we did the double against Forest in the league and in the playoffs. So how we did in the league games doesn't matter at all.

My view is that I don't really care who we get as long as we make them - i've been a Blackpool fan for long enough to know that we're quite capable of making one point from two home games feel like climbing Mount Everest. If we do get there, then judging by points attained there really isn't a standout side who will be hot favourites.

Our performance for the first 80 minutes at Lincoln was the best I've seen us play this season. We should have been 4 or 5 up. We gifted them a point mainly through tiredness from the hectic schedule. Show them respect but I wouldn't have any fear facing them in the playoffs.

Yes, they had momentum, like all the top sides have had at some point. Just wonder what losing a 3 goal lead at Pboro & that penalty may have an adverse effect on them?

Be very interesting to see how throwing away that 3 nil lead, and being sucker punched by a horrendous penalty decision in the last minute has effected them. I imagine they started to get carried away at 3 nil thinking: "we're going to sneak automatic!". A very sudden bring back down to reality and that penalty decision making it all the more bitter.

They could be well and truly rattled from it and an up for it Charlton might stick the boot in, let's hope so anyway!

If Oxford win we need a point from two games or they will go above us is all I can think at the minute. Hoping we get that point or three tomo so can relax for a bit before the play offs.

If or hopefully “when” we get in the play-offs I will deem our season to have been SUCCESSFUL......Mr Sadler & Critch......take a bow.

IF we DO get in the play-offs I really don’t care who we play, we can beat any of them on our day and don’t think there is anything to chose between the other 3 teams.

I don’t think any other play-off teams will relish playing TMP to be honest, but that’s not to say they can’t beat us.

I hope by tonight we get in the play-offs if only for a couple or even three meaningful extra games to look forward to for a No1 prize that would once again transform our club, this time with a decent owner.

also a chance of seeing TMP live again, something I haven’t been able to do since March 2020!!!!

Fingers & toes crossed for tonight!!

We surely need to win both games to finish third? You'd expect Sunderland to beat Northampton at home and Lincoln to pick up 3 points from their last two games.

As of my last sentence in previous comments.
Its all down to Saturdays results If we win and Lincoln fail to win tonight.

So, we need a win against Bristol Rovers to guarantee third place. That would mean that Sunderland would play Lincoln in the semis. Hopefully, Lincoln win that, so that Embleton can play for us in all the play off matches, assuming we get to the final.
Our opponents in the semis would be one of Porstmouth ( at home to Accrington), Oxford (at home to Burton) or Charlton (at home to Hull). Which would you prefer?

Daft really, only 3 other teams in Play-Offs and if you reach the final you have played 2 of them!

Given our history in the PO’s and more importantly the recent 16 game unbeaten run and then a rebound of 3 wins in the spin (maybe 4 if we best The Gasheads) after a stutter, but no goals conceded and 6 scored, then it’s us that nobody will want to face.

It’s all a lottery though, is anybody still at the club after our last Play Off Adventure?

It’s important we finish third both for morale and slight advantage.

At least we should avoid Sunderland in the semi. Even if we slip up on Sunday, I cannot see Sunderland losing against Northampton. I can see us beating Sunderland again in a final, should they get there.
