OLD PICTURES OF BLACKPOOL FC

I checked out Frank Soo on the net as never heard of him. He was regarded by Morty as one of the finest midfielders he had played with for England, very accurate passer. Soo went into management in England and Europe and was regarded as a “ slavedriver” as his training tactics included daily 90 minute runs!

Frank Swift’s brother was Fred Swift who made his Blackpool debut in 1929 and subsequently played in just 3 League Matches for the Seasiders.

If you go on You Tube and search for the heavy roller he has uploaded highlights of quite a few matches from the 50/60’s some of which feature Blackpool.

I'm sure I once read that this game was vs Derby County.
Don't think so mate, Derby was towards the end of the season and I doubt very much the grass would have looked like that. It's got to be early season. Hull was in August the other possible could be Bolton in September but as was said earlier the amber socks suggest Hull though I'm not 100% either way.

It's 100% v Hull City . I was at the game and also remember the photo being published in the days after the match . I would however struggle to remember who we played at the start of last season though 😲

Just found this on YouTube, looks like you're both right looking at the kit in the video compared to the photo.

Also found another from the 70's, FA Cup 3rd Round Replay away at Derby County in 1977.
Second one, robbed. The only time I went to the Baseball ground.

How bad did our normally capable defence look that night? All 3 goals could've been prevented. I went to the first match at BR, which was also on MotD and it was a really drab game with only about 2 mins of highlights shown.

I went to the replay. It was supposed to be played on an earlier date but a late call off due to fog did not go down well with me and the others on the supporters coach on the M6 at the time. We were unlucky in that game but Leighton James was the difference for Derby. Fair play to the Derby fans the Baseball Ground was rocking that night they really
got behind their team.

I used to enjoy watching that Blackpool side, but that wasn't one of their finest matches

The heavy roller has posted highlights of 1958/59 game Spurs 2 Blackpool 3 on You Tube. Third Pool goal not shown but interesting all the same. Ray Charnley scored a belter into the top corner.

Agree it's the Scratchers, at the corner with the Kop, but I've never seen that before. Don't appear to have any glass in them, just holes in the roof, like panels are missing, but they're very regularly spaced.
The scratchers was rebuilt/fully roofed in the close season of 1953 or 1954, which is roughly when this picture looks to be from. Maybe they just hadn't finished the work in time for the new season!

Went to the first game, boring 0-0 draw.
The highlights on MotD must have been Billy Ronson and Archie Gemill kicking lumps out of each other all game 🤣

My wife grew up knowing the Ball family in Farnworth and his mum (Violet) thought she was the 'bees knees' and not that well liked because of it. They were just like anybody else really.
Bally had supreme confidence in his ability. I remember him taking the ball around the Leeds goalie then stopping the ball on the goaline and sitting on it. As the Leeds defenders rushed backed desperately he waited till the last moment then got his arse off the ball and back heeled it in.⚽

The heavy roller on You Tube has posted today highlights of Blackpool 2 Luton 0 FA CUP 3rd Round 3rd replay played at Molineux Jan 1954.

Bally to Sir Jimmy” Hey Jim remember when we hammered Leeds 4-0 at Bloomfield Rd ? I rang rings round Norman Hunter !” Jack Charlton “ If you mention that again Bally I’ll get Norman to come here now and bite your legs off.”
