Yes it was 66. The barman used to say it was off the wood .
I went in The King's a few times but I was too young to appreciate real ale. Shame, because I would have liked to have found out if it was any good.Yes it was 66. The barman used to say it was off the wood .
Kings was Higsons. Very variable.I went in The King's a few times but I was too young to appreciate real ale. Shame, because I would have liked to have found out if it was any good.
Brew 10 was anonymous, pretty poor beer. I was pleased when Stones cane over from Sheffield in 1978.66 do you remember Brew ten same again which came into play after the keg beers disappeared and many other poor ones as well.
What we want is Watneys.
Double Diamond.
Then there was the Wheatsheaf nearby. Remember the old peculiar going down too well one night. The following morning an ex wasn't speaking to me. Apparently I'd used the calor gas fire in the bedroom as a makeshift toilet overnight. Must have been the pull up lid.Meliora, when I was drinking in the Kings arms in the late 60s and early 70s Higsons was proper keg beer and I would be surprised if anyone drank lager in there those days.
I was on the Kop , a crowd of around 10,000 I reckon .
Is that the game where Mick Hill ,on loan from Ipswich, scored a hattrick?I was on the Kop , a crowd of around 10,000 I reckon .
I think Hill got a couple, I was hoping we'd sign him from Ipswich. I'm pretty sure Micky Burns got 4 and we were 10-0 up with half an hour to go.Is that the game where Mick Hill ,on loan from Ipswich, scored a hattrick?
Must say I don’t recall that , maybe someone else that day .Is that the game where Mick Hill ,on loan from Ipswich, scored a hattrick?
Yep Mick Hill scored 2, one of Burnsies was a volleyed of at the Kop EndMust say I don’t recall that , maybe someone else that day .
Wasn't that the rule for the Watney Cup?There was no offsides up to the penalty area if I remember rightly and you could just stand 18 yards from goal without being offside.
Yep I was 7 and wedged to a wall on the South Stand by me dad’s shoulderA super picture of two of England's greatest players and I was lucky to see them both on the same pitch at little old Blackpool.
I think Sir Jim was given a guard of honour by the utd players.
You are correct BT. The only exception to the IFAB Laws was that there was to be no offside except in the penalty area. I still have the official 50 page match brochure containing details of all the teams involved. Mine is entitled Special 2 match edition, Blackpool v Sampdoria and Lanerossi both in June 1972. Still an interesting read. Teams involved were: Birmingham City, Blackpool, Carlisle United, Leicester City, Stoke City, Sunderland, Atalanta, Cagliari, Cantanzaro, Lanerossi Vicenza, Roma and Sampdoria. Used to love the Anglo-Italian and all the other summer competitions, Watney, Texaco etc. For me made for really good close and pre-season matches. Wish we still had something like it todayWe are both right Wiz
In the Anglo-Italian Cup, the offside rule was not applied outside the penalty area, according to some reports. This means that while the standard offside rules applied within the penalty area, they were not enforced in other areas of the field. This unique rule change was one of the key characteristics of the competition.
Got, got, got, needFound an old football sticker book from 1978.
I've obviously stuck my doublers on the front cover with us pride of place.
I've also taken a pic of our input to it
