OLD PICTURES OF BLACKPOOL FC

Good question onepool and you’re right about not being in the same division, l can only assume that and given they were early August, these were possible friendly matches.

Agree. I've had a look in the BFC Complete Record book, and no sign of those as League or League Cup games, must've been friendlies as you say. Looking the the fixtures over the years in the 60s, the season seemed to start in mid or sometimes late August.

By the way is that a bit of graffiti on the players entrance by Wolves 🤨

That was my conclusion too PMG👍

That was December 1981, Schools were shut for a week for the only time I can ever remember due to the weather. I wanted to go down to the ground and help out as I lived in South Shore at the time, I think I was only 12. I got laughed at by my old man at the suggestion of it. Gutted ☹️
I remember December '81 for different reasons.
I would have gone to help with the snow, unfortunately I'd been involved in a motorbike accident on the 4th and wasn't back on my feet til the end of march☹

I was working on Poulton Industrial Estate and walked into work from where we lived by Baines school. Spent the day digging out the manager's car park space. Business priorities.

I suggest that these games are pre-season friendlies immediately prior to the start of our Division 1 season. I remember going to the Blackburn match (aged 10) and being upset that we'd been beaten by a second division team, even though it was a friendly. More substantively, the Coventry game was dated Sat. 8th August. Our first Div 1 match was away at Huddersfield on Sat 15th August.

I've come to this page about 25 years late (always...). Just wondering if people who have posted rights-free images on here would be willing to let them be used in Flat Caps and Tangerine Scarves?

Remember that weekend well. I had come up for a few days from Surrey to be a godparent at my nieces christening and was hoping to get a match in. I was staying at my parents house in Thornton. We closed the curtains at teatime because it was getting dark and so didn't know it had started snowing. When I went in the kitchen late evening I spotted something white against the frosted glass of the kitchen door to the drive. We couldn't believe it when we opened the door as the snow had drifted over the top of the garage and was 5ft deep in the drive between the houses. It took half of the following day just to clear a path to the road at the front, where the snow was over 2 feet deep. Cars wers snowed in and public transport was not running properly for a few days. I didn't return to Surrey until thd following weekend. Worst snow I have known on the Fylde.

I would love a copy of this photo, my wife’s grandfather, Jimmy Haslam (a BFC Director) is the person wearing the black bowler hat sat on the front row immediately behind Alan Brown
Couldn't remember where I found it so I reversed image searched the picture on google and found this website that actually sells it in frames. An absolutely unbelievably extortionate price though!

I would never suggest such a thing but there is always the option to simply download the image and get it printed onto glossy printer paper either at home if you have a printer, know someone with a printer or at a shop (I know Booths used to offer that option). Then you'd just need a frame which is fairly cheap!

*EDIT*
In fact I've just gone back on and you can purchase literally just the photograph printed for a much more reasonable price (tenner upwards depending on the size you'd want), it would be good quality I assume and you'd just have to purchase a right sized frame then. Hope this helps!
