Oliver Casey

BBC commentator Adam Pope has been speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show about Oliver Casey’s future amid talk of a move to Blackpool.

The 20-year-old centre-back has the likes of Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente ahead of him and hasn’t played a first-team league game since his debut in December 2019.

So, it looks like he will be leaving Elland Road and Pope provided an update on his future.

He said: “I’d be very surprised if that didn’t happen. Oli Casey, from my understanding, over the last few weeks, [has] been quite clear that he wants to get regular football.

“He wants to go and get a good level of football. Blackpool have come up into the Championship.

“So I see that one happening, I really do. Are Leeds going to stand in the way of a player that wants to go and play somewhere else? I don’t think so.”

(in a poll attached to this article 84% of Leeds fans are happy to let him go).

It does sound as though this one is close, I wonder if the delay is due to him being on holiday or if we have another preferred target?

I’d put it down to him being on holiday, but we could also be waiting to see what happens with Ballard... although we could sign both as Ballard would only be a loan

A fee needs agreeing, plus personal terms. It's possible we have agreed neither yet. Plus a medical needs to happen and he's probably still on holiday.

We should offer them a weeks free defensive coaching by Big Colin C and a days lesson in Shithousery with King Kenny

Casey update ..

A week down the line and a snippet in the Yorkshire Evening Post does seem to add a little something to the tale.

Reporter Graham Smyth writes that Casey is “likely to depart the club for a permanent move to Blackpool.” Leeds United are looking for Under-23s this summer and a centre-back is thought to be high on their priorities.

As it stands, the move from Elland Road to Bloomfield Road is no further forward. On the flip side, it is no further back neither.

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Smyth thinks a move is likely to happen. The coming week could be telling on that front.

Could be decent depending on the fee.

Don't know if really need to splash the cash on another CB when we have Marvin, Viking, Hubby, and Thorniley.

But Critchley knows best and if we're bringing him in for a fair fee then I'm for it.

I think we do require 5 or 6 CB's over a season to account for injuries and suspensions, and it allows us to potentially play a 3 at the back system with 3 CB's, or even 5 at the back.

True, but if we're paying a pretty penny for a young, unproven player in a position that we already have quality in, it would make me question the signing especially when we could get players of his caliber on loan for free.

But again, Critchley knows best and if he thinks Casey is a good investment then I'll be happy with the signing.

25 man squad 2 players for every position plus 3 floaters of which husband will be one.

3 of the above are left footed and I don't I regard Hubby as a natural CB. Only Marv is right footed and Casey would add a second. He can also play defensive midfield.
