One player from last 20 years who could transform this season?

Charlie Adam is the obvious one but it feels a bit of a dirty choice considering a prime Charlie Adam who played for us in the Championship/Prem would of course be instrumental in a League One side. It'd be like asking this to Portsmouth fans and them mentioning some of their Premier League greats!

Wes Hoolahan is a great shout, his wizardry in the middle of the park would have been immense - something we'd been lacking up until about 2 weeks ago.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher. Too intelligent a footballer for the defences we come up against. Put Garbutt's crosses near him in space and he'd have a field day, (Edit: goal against Hull away, season opener 2011/12). Get him into the box with the ball at his feet and watch defences flounder - his goals against Middlesbro away, Donny away and (in the Prem), Liverpool at home and Man Utd away. He could also work a shift in forward midfield - that weighted lay-off to DJ for our first against Forest.

KDH would have had about 20 goals so far this season. Would have probably had as many assists too. He was so far ahead of anybody else in the squad last year it probably hindered him. In this squad with the like of Dougall and Yates he’s be having a field day.
(I’ve purposely not considered anyone who played above League 1 with us)

Goal poacher required: Kevin Phillips.

End of thread.
The number of times this season I have wanted one of our lads flooding the six yard box at corners to pull away to the edge of the area (Phillips-style), ready for the loose ball to become available. Then again, it's having the knack of knowing where it would drop - Phillips could read that situation so well.

GTF for me, it's the striker who need to be cleverer and more direct. He'd be filling his boots with balls knocked into the area from wherever, his ability to make something out of nothing, strike whilst off balance and go through defenders would be something else.

Kevin Phillips is far better than DJ ever was (sorry DJ mate), another one to consider that hasn’t been mentioned is Shamus Coleman, but would have to say Phillips.

If it is someone in the prime of their career, and not during their time here, then it clearly has to be European Golden Boot winner Kevin Phillips.

He'd score about 50 a season at this level.

Going with one of our League One players adds a touch of realism. In that case, it's a toss up between Brett and Murphs.

Stephen Dobbie, is the best we’ve had in the position that apparently we’re crying out for cover in, given the massive change Embleton has made to our fortunes

"The greatest "goalscorer" we have ever had..."
Wouldn't that be Hampson, Morty or Charnley?
A case could be put for any one of the four. And based solely on long term records for just Blackpool, then any of the three you mention are difficult to rank.

I should have qualified it with "in the modern era" as it's difficult to judge those I haven't seen.

I was considering the fact that he was a Golden Boot winner and could still score at a high level when he was nearly 40.

It was me being pedantic. Your choice is fine. For the record:
Hampson = 252 goals over 11 seasons
Mortensen = 222 goals over 10 seasons
Charnley = 222 goals over 11 seasons.

The next closest, I think, is Perry with 140 or some such.

For me the answer is KP too but with the proviso it has to be the best of KP which wasn't necessarily the time when he was with us. He did score some wonder goals for us though by his astute thinking and reading of the game.

Comfortably the best finisher I've ever seen play for us.

Answering the OP, it would have to be Charlie.

He certainly did.

The one that sticks in my mind is his goal at Cardiff, a great goal and it helped us turn that game around and get a great result at the time.

yeah, Charlie would be my second choice and DJ third. Just think it's that clinical finisher that would make the difference so KP got my vote.

Charlie for me. I wonder whether DJ or KP would see the ball as much as they need. CA would supply quality for Yates.

I'm working on the basis that it wouldn't matter what we needed most, Charlie would improve us by 50% at least. He'd create loads and score loads. All fantasy island obviously so...

Brett is the obvious choice as he was so prolific and we need to be scoring more. But Simmo would create lots of chances and is also a crack free kick taker. Can we have them both please?

Charlie we lack that lynchpin in the centre of the park a decent freekick taker and he could toss a coin with Yates to who took the pens.
Then it would be Vaughan if couldn't get CA.
