OT headphones advice please

Question for the sound People please.

I'm looking to buy a new pair of headphones, either on or over ear. (Can't stand those in ear ones, and I doubt they'd be the right choice for this anyway).

I'm learning bass guitar. My amp, a practice 20 Watts one, has an output for the guitar and an Aux port for another music source, usually my MP3 or phone, so I can play along with it and the amp can route it through my headphones to save disturbing the cat.

My existing pair are fine to listen to MP3 at quite a good blast, but I've come to realise they just can't handle the low frequencies a bass guitar is generating. Get a lot of distortion, and it's hard to achieve a balance between MP3 and instrument.

Absolute top end budget of 150. What do I need to be looking for in the specification that will show it can handle a bass through an amp?

Can you not buy an amplug and use normal headphones?

What about these? Like my headphones but not sure about the amp / guitar thing.

Probably best doing some research on headphones that are capable of reproducing bass frequencies clearly, the lowest the human ear can hear is 20Hz so an obvious step from there would be looking at headphones that at the very least have a frequency response that goes down to 20Hz (some go even lower for that lovely sub-bass). But that can be misleading, some headphones even though they do have a frequency response of 20Hz - 20kHz can still be weak in the low end.

I'm sure a quick google of something along the lines of "best headphones for clear bass" should help you, such as this article:

Although my advice would be to avoid "BEATS" headphones as they have an exaggerated bass to trick people into thinking they are superior quality headphones, our brains like low-end! Brands such as Sennheiser, Audio-Technika, Beyerdynamic are usually reliable.

Thanks everyone. Dumfries, interesting idea but sadly it would be me going before the cat did.

If the blurb is to be believed B&W are the musicians choice because that is what the vast majority of tracks are recorded with. I have to say they are exceptional quality and far better than Beats for they style of music I listen to. Ultimately we all like different things so my advice would be to try as many as you can with one of your preferred songs so you can compare properly.
